I can confirm you can unlock this boss before going to the Keelhaul key. I don't recommend fighting him at that point.

I did this too! Jolene had the conversation with me about reregistering when I did her trouble right after chapter 3. I did a few minor league fights then finished the trouble and moved on to Chapter 4 After chapter 4 I went back and fought my way back to the champion’s belt and not long after that I got Mush’s email

Problem is have with the battle master is they only give you practice guarding against easy goomba attacks nothing more advanced

Yeah, a simple option to choose which enemy you've previously faced, and the BM procuring a board version with all of their attacks would help wonders, since a lot of bosses and mid- to late-game normal enemies are difficult to pin down the precise timing without taking a few hits first. I've also noticed that some timings for specific attacks were changed, such as breath attacks by dragons/piranha plants are immediate instead of slightly delayed. Similarly, Magnus Von Grapple's foot stomp is delayed instead of instant, so that threw ne off as well.

This wouldve been hard for me, but i went for danger mario build which for once seems fair

This is the fight I want to use a very crazy Danger Mario build on because you can have so much damage you would beat him in at most 2 jumps. Danger Mario should more or less solo him.

You can unlock prince mush fight before beating the game if you beat the pit of 100 trials

Nah, you can do it pre-chapter 6 so long as you’ve done Jolene’s trouble center request.

I can confirm you can unlock this boss before beating the game. I attempted to fight him in between chapters 6 and 7 and got rocked lol.

I love that he still didn't stoped slapping falcon in every of his thumbnails.

If you're running low on FP (Flower Points), the Happy Flower Badge can passively heal a little FP after a turn is done. Or if you want to reduce the FP used on characters and Mario, equip the Flower Saver Badge. It reduces moves by 1 FP, but not lower than 1. If you're going for glass cannon, reduce Mario's HP to 5/5 and equip as many Power Rush Badges for him and partners. Overdoing it otherwise with Mega Rush is also a desperate win as well. Prince Mush is no joke.

prince mush unlocked soon after beating chapter 3 for me. i forgot exactly when but he unlocks as soon as you get the email about him being back and mentions to select him in an exhibition match. im not fighting him till post game tho. he creamed me even tho i was using danger strats and speaking of exhibition matches, they let you fight wings of night and the destructors!!! no strings attached

I unlocked the Prince Mush battle around the half point of the game I believe. Probably something after chapter 4. He sent me a mail while at rougeport at basically the exact same place as in the video

I just obliterated him with attack up buffs lmao Before the fight: brought Mario down to 1 HP Turn 1: Goombella guards, Mario uses Power Lift Turn 2: Goombella uses power punch on Mario, Mario uses charge Turn 3: Mario power bounces, Goombella uses rally wink and Mario power bounces again. Boom: he's dead You do have to superguard his two attacks though. My badges were two power pluses, jumpman, P-Up D-Down, power bounce, charge, power rush, and mega rush

after chapter 4 or 5 i got a mail from him saying that i am able to battle him if i want, and then i beat prince mush after chapter 5. i even skipped the whole second phase because i used the insanely overpowered charge strat

Between the Master in Paper Mario 64 and Prince Mush in this game, I love that those super bosses are Toads. Because for me, they’re the face of the Mushroom Kingdom. And they’re so cute. 😊

Until Phase 2, anyway. Then, to be able to damage him, you have to be hittable to try Superguard the attack, to break down his defenses for a turn.

At first I thought it was hard, but honestly it’s quite easy. Just slap in some power rushes, like 10 or more from the pianta parlor and ur good. Oh and obviously all points in battle points only.

I unlocked Prince Mush before starting chapter 4. I completed Jolene trouble and while in Glitzville ranked back up to Champion. Went to start chapter 4 got email from Jolene and Prince Mush.

And when the second part?

Just beat him after clearing chapter 5. Lv. 18 with 15HP and 5FP. Superguarding saved me big time.

I can confirm you can unlock this boss fairly early. I unlocked it after I completed chapter 4 after I became the champion.

How does zap tap fair against him? It helps on the original master, how about here?

I unlocked him before postgame (I got it), and I have proof. The ability to fight Prince Mush is announced via an Email, and in my Mailbox SP the Mush Email is listed between the Peach Emails for chapters 4 and 5.

So the zap badge doesn't stun him?

Hi, just beat him, and yes you can unlock this boss before the post game. I'm on my way to chapter 6

I actually DIDN'T use a lot of FP moves OR Power Lift. Instead, my strategy was to use Art Attack (for a consistent 15 damage) a lot and have my partner spam Appeal with Super Appeal P to get it back faster.(Since they're effectively useless, from my experience) As a side note, Mush can actually be damaged when he assumes his 2 stances. (Though in my testing, its not always guaranteed) First, when he's bouncing, he can be hit with jump attacks. Likewise, when he's shifting side to side, he can be hit with hammer attacks. You don't just have to rely on Superguard as a signal that its now clobbering time.

I feel like this is pretty rushed, you could’ve given a lot more tips - what his stance correlates to isn’t even mentioned! For example, When he scoots around, it means you can hit him with a hammer (and/or non jump moves) and considering piercing blow and ms mowz slap completely ignore Defence, it’s pretty important to know that. You can do the first phase basically without superguards, only the second one requires it. No status conditions effect him and that includes explosions, making bobbery pretty useless, besides for tanking. Getting any badges like "lucky day" will help immensely, as they might give you a second try if you missed a superguard. As stated above, ms mowz is surprisingly decent. Not only does she tear through his Defence but (at least I felt) that her smaller hit box made superguarding a little easier. Trying to jump on him during his jumping stance is futile though, unless you have jumpman equipped or something I don’t think you can do much damage at all.

I had zap tap on during the fight and he ignored it. Also the Boo Sheets would make it impossible to superguard so you wouldn’t be able to hit him, which would only make the fight even worse in the long run as he’s constantly powering up.

Just managed to beat prince mush with 10HP it was really hard.

Yeah it definitely isn’t locked to post game I attempted it during ch7. There’s also a new enemy and recipe in the game. The recipe is the hottest dog (hot dog + hot sauce) The enemy is tattle entry number 10. In the original game number 10 was koopa troopa who’s now number 11.

Life shrooms needed? No. Strongly recommended, yes. In the course of my playthrough, my HP only dropped to zero once. Atomic Boo (saved by a Life Shroom), and final boss, battle was literally down to the wire... and I didn't have a life shroom there. You could say my overconfidence was my weakness. Of course, I went in being like level 28, my badge setup was such that I made short work of nearly every boss post chapter 6. I really over prepared for this fight, making a trial stew so I could use Peril Strats, but... I didn't need to do. My complete setup, I can't quite remember, but I had 2 power pluses, jump man, all or nothing, and a P-Up D-Down badge, so my base jump damage was 8 points.

Beat him first try

If one day, the secret character in a video game turns out to ACTUALLY be Captain Falcon, I wonder what the approach with the thumbnail is going to be 😂

I can verify that you can unlock him as early as completing of Chapter 4. I've attempted to fight him before opening chapter 5 and got my clock cleaned.

It’s kinda neat that there’s another kickass toad who knows how to fight (brokenly so too) and he has broken stats. If he teams up with the master from Paper Mario 64 bowser would need better ways to kidnap the princess (Also FYI, I think they should have balanced it out, I think this might be “too tough” for a lot of people. But then again if you think it’s a “skill issue” …fair point.

Imagine if badges and inventory access is banned during this fight. And Super Guard timing window is frame-perfectly short with Rng elements added, like parrying EMMI attack in Metroid Dread.

Tip 1: Danger strats. That’s it.

I remember fighting Mush in the GC version of the game. It’s not really new, just secret.🤫

I did a one hit ko by using danger Mario, many evasion badges, 3 life shrooms, FP/hp recovery items, 2 hp recovery badges for both Mario and party and FP recovery badges, piecing hammer, and lastly charge. (The stats I had was 5hp, 30fp, and 69 BP.) just keep charging till you are able to hit prince mush at 96hp or 99hp and let your partner(s) support and heal you. It was a long battle but definitely a slow way to cheese it in one hit. Just timing on when you can use your hammer after changing is the thing that may take a few turns.
