How to Undo Knit and Purl Stitches - Also called Tinking Back
Welcome to The Blue Mouse Knits! In this video I show you how to undo knitting, I show it in moss stitch so you can see how to undo knits and purls. This is referred to as tinking because TINK is KNIT spelled backwards. This is an essential skill to knitting because we all make mistakes and it doesn't have to be a situation where you start over when you can easily tink or undo your work back to the beginning of the row.

Yay!!! I've finally learned how to undo my mistakes! Haha no more having to wait to see my mum to do it. However, my favourite part about this is learning the Fun fact at the end. This tickled my sense of humour!
You are a godsend thank you so much for making this video! Easy to follow, no fluff, you don’t go too quickly or too slowly explaining it. Now I can salvage the project I’m working on!

Thank you so much. I'm relatively new(ish) to proper knitting. I taught myself via KZread videos earlier this year when I wanted to pick it up seriously. I'm making Harry Potter house scarves for myself and my friends. I've been working on a scarf for a while now (k1p1 with a slipped stitch selvedge edge) and I've restarted like.. probably 10 times due to forgetting if I ended on a knit or a purl. I finally got sick of it when I was like halfway through the scarf without an issue, and started on the wrong stitch. So, I looked up this video last night. I can't believe how EASY it is to undo stitches, you've saved me so much time. Thank you thank you thank you!

I'm so glad it was helpful! It's a great tool to have when knitting :) I always have to keep a row counter on a piece of paper that I tally off so I can remember what row I just finished.
Thank you for the tutorial, I am a newbie knitter and this is very helpful. Your instructions are very clear and easy to understand.

Hi. Thank you 👌.
Thank you!
Thanks
So happy to have found this video, thanks so much! Question! I want to know how the process is different for when I accidentally picked up a stitch (or stitched two together). What will happen when I attempt to tink? I’m sorta afraid to find out by doing without first hearing it won’t be a big deal and will be obvious what to do. Thank you!

So glad it was helpful ❤️ The process is slightly different if you’re u doing a decrease (like a k2tog) but very similar. I have a video for that if you come across that instance in your knitting. As for undoing an accidental stitch that was picked up, I would think when you undo it that it will stand out a bit and either disappear back into the fabric or will stand out and need to be slid off your needle. Either way I think it’ll look funny enough that you’ll be able to tell it apart from a normal stitch.
Thanks for the “fun fact!”
How do you unpurl when you're already done with the sweater!?
@TheBlueMouseKnits
3 жыл бұрын
You'll need to undo the bind off most likely, so that you can get to the purl stitches to undo. I would start researching there. kzread.info/dash/bejne/d6l8xdSAk5izdaQ.html&ab_channel=TheBlueMouseKnits
If the knitting is not continental style(like in this video) we have to unknit from back to front, or else the stitich will be twisted.

I don’t think so, the way you hold the yarn shouldn’t change how it’s wrapped around the needle while knitting. So this technique should work for continental and English knitters
My biggest challenge is to do it with my left hand😂😂
I’ve tried this multiple times and it doesn’t work. My knitting never looks like it does in these videos. I think I need a different angle.

When knitting or purling do you wrap your yarn around your needle from front to back?
