Hi,
Welcome to Speak Japanese Naturally with Fumi.
After watching this video, you'll be able to type in Japanese on your PC!
How to prepare your setting:

How to type hiragana with alphabets

I usually make videos about the Japanese pitch accent.
Japanese is a pitch accent language, so you should imitate the pitch when you practice speaking!
That will help you sound more natural. This channel deals with the Kanto(Tokyo) dialect, which is also standard Japanese and used in most textbooks and national broadcasts.

03:40 - hold [ shift ] key and press [ space ] - selection goes reverse => [ shift-space ] to select previous suggestion shift key in general is used for CAPS (capital) letters, or to somehow differently change default button / key behavior, ie reverse, or select whole word ... pressing [ backspace ] will return to original text (works for me on windows libreoffice writer editor) thx for sharing, good stuff, audio is loud & clear, as it should be; have fun, godspeed, aum, s love nia ps : perhaps leave on-screen text visible a bit longer

It might be useful to explain how to set this up since it was a pain for me. It's actually complicated because Windows does NOT give you that option automatically. You have to go into the "Options" for Japanese and select "Microsoft IME," then "options." Then you pick "general" where you find a check box for "romaji." It was very frustrating to figure out and not even Microsoft's support pages fully explain this. It would be very useful to have this explained rather than have people assume it's going to be already set up.

I want to try typing with kana input, just to get rid of thinking in romaji - at least to experiment with it. Sadly there is the problem that my European keyboard doesn't have the input buttons on either side of the spacebar that switches between kana and romaji input. Because of that, it is really difficult to switch between the two input methods (You have to change a setting, then close the software, and start it again... so you can't just switch easily). I noticed a small little error in the video, the blue romaji text show "shimashouu" both times you write it, but it should only be one "u" at the end :)

  • @SpeakJapaneseNaturally

@@archlinuxrussian Oh, I wrote a reply to this before, but I noticed it has been removed 😯 Kana input is not that weird when you see how it is done: they use the number row as well. • @archlinuxrussian

@@timlarsson ah, makes sense. I for some reason was under the impression that "not all hiragana could fit on the kana keyboard" for some reason. But it makes more sense now. I recently got a Йцукен Russian-English keyboard, and a few things are a bit funky about it, but I'd imagine it'd be at least a bit similar to "relearning" where all the hiragana are on the kana keyboard vs a phonetic (romaji) layout :)
