Very helpful about KTP. I bought an inexpensive ($10-ish) silicone keyboard cover for my MacBook with Hangul and English printed on it from amazon. It's helped a lot and you don't ruin your actual keyboard. There are tons of color options too.

I, personally, hate autocorrect. It has messed up more communications of mine than I care to remember, often because I don't see the alleged correction until after I have post my remarks. And KZread does not allow editing. I wish I had seen this video earlier. I figured out most of the logic of the order over time. What is wish I could find was a keyboard that has three alphabets. In my case, I use English, Russian, and (increasingly) Korean. If anybody knows of such a thing, I would appreciate a reference.

  • @sweetandtastyTV

Autocorrect certainly makes embarrassing mistakes. Not sure when the updates were made, but it looks like KZread comments are now editable. Click on the three dots at the right of your comment. It'll give you the option to edit or delete. Just letting you know :) About the three alphabets, perhaps you might invest in a bigger keyboard and stick on those stickers. And tadah! You have your own unicorn-tastic keyboard! :D

  • @ZachMikeMoller

+sweetandtastyTV Thank you for your reply. I tend to use an iPad most of the time. From that fact, it follows that there are no three dots to the right of my comment, and so, no editing capability - alas. I use a Logitech iPad cover that has a keyboard built in. Fortunately the keys are fairly large. If I can find Russian letters and Hangeul on clear stickers and in the corners of those stickers, then I think your suggestion would work. I live in Russia, so I can check on those stickers right away. I hope to be in Korea in September and October, so I will need to find the Hangeul stickers there. I thought "tada" was 짜잔.

This is the most popular Hangul layout which is called Dubeolsik There is also Sebeolsik which if you are serious about learning and typing Korean might be a better choice. While not as widely used it is more ergonomic. It is harder to learn though for like with English the characters are not placed between vowel and consonant, they are placed for ease of use.

Well, you can type the word 'banana' like this. 바나나, or qksksk. If you're having trouble working out what a word is, a really good thing to do is to go onto google images and type some random characters, and see what comes up. Right your result and what you typed on some paper, or even on a document. I found that it helps a lot. Another thing to look out for is that to actually form a word, you need to type a consonant, then a vowel, then a consonant. 방탄소년단. ㅂ+ㅏ+ㅇ=방. ㅌ+ㅏ+ㄴ=탄, etc. If you want to, you can look up 방탄소년단! I promise you wont be let down! (ARMY knows what 방탄소년단 is) I hope this helps you!

I learned to type on a 1924 model Royal typewriter (which I still have, by the way). You actually put a piece of paper into the machine, position the paper, and strike the keys, which moves a set of levers for each letter/numeral/character, causing the type to strike an inked ribbon and push the ink into the paper. When computer keyboards came out many decades later, I destroyed a few of them learning to use a lighter touch. I wonder, if any manual Korean-character typewriters are still extant.

No no, she said "they sound similar but are written differently." Just think of English homophones (sound-alike twins). "Too/two/to" and "Eight/ate" sound the same, but does it matter which one you use? Of course! Just because they sound the same doesn't mean we can interchange them.

One thing I can suggest is what she said at the end about adding the keyboard on your phone. I don't know if it works for Androids but it works for iphones. I only suggest it if you don't mind changing the language setting on your phone (everything you read, say apps, will be written in Hangul). I really wanted to learn Korean quickly so I changed my language setting from English to Hangul. It was just a faster and easier way for me to be able to use write and read Hangul constantly without having to download a keyboard. You can also switch between both English and Hangul keyboards so it's pretty convenient. However if you aren't interested in changing your language setting that way then just download a keyboard :3 I hope this helps anyone ^_^ I'm sure it would work with other languages too :)

I bought some 한글 stickers to put on my laptop keys and they are very useful!! They are cheap on eBay, highly recommend if you can't put an overlay on your keyboard.

I got the stickers and they are helpful so far. The placement of the korean keys aren't that difficult to learn if you already can type without looking. You just have to equate them a bit. Korean H is not at h but rather g... for example.

You can also use Google translate to practice. When you set the translation to Korean in the box you're typing in, the keyboard on the screen is Korean, so you can refer to it.

I type Hangul about as well as an old person types English. I've made it a point to learn by trial and error, and as such the learning process is slow. I know the vague area in which a character is, but I'm at the point where it involves a lot of pressing the wrong letter, pressing backspace, pressing another letter in a similar area, backspacing again, rinse repeat until I get the write character. Not that my Korean vocabulary and grammar is up to snuff, but I'm capable of reliably typing out greetings and vague pleasantries.

I know this video is super old but I'd wish I found it earlier. I do part time volunteer work for a Korean gaming company and even though my work is in English sometimes I need to navigate using Hangul. Took me months to master the keyboard.ㅜㅜ

감산이다 선생님 오. I've been struggling with my iPhone Hangul keyboard for a couple months. I didn't know that a consonant will move over if followed by a vowel. I kept thinking "I've got to watch Professor Oh's episode on typing." Sure enough, you had the answer to my question.

One thing I don’t like is that with other apps when trying to learn Korean it only puts the Korean letter and not the “ya” under it so it makes it hard for me to understand or pronounce that Korean letter when I don’t understand what it’s saying so I’m really greatfull that you put the Korean letter in just letters as well

I've been using the iPod Korean keyboard for a little while now, and thankfully I've started to get used to it... if I can't remember it on my laptop, I just pull out my iPod, open up Notes and bring the keyboard up ^_^ but for the most part I just guess on my laptop until I get it right ^^
