How to turn an ugly cast iron radiator into a gorgeous Victorian one! / Simple and affordable

Hi everyone and welcome to my channel, today I'll show you how I've renovated and decorated our old cast iron radiator to look like a Victorian one!
Here is what you'll need for this project:
- Jovi air dry clay (I used 1 kg of clay for the whole radiator having 14 sections)
amzn.to/44Q99RC
- a mold. I already owned one, so saved here, and you can buy the one you like and reuse it later in other projects
Baroque molds
amzn.to/4dItOv9
a nice baroque set which you could use for making delicate embellishments:
amzn.to/3WMlVPm
baroque trims (it has a vine mold similar to the one I used)
amzn.to/3UQkYTk
Very nice and delicate Sicilian molds
amzn.to/4dLS1R5
amazing floral molds (oak mold is great and I’m going to order this one myself!)
amzn.to/44O8fFq
a similar one, that is less elaborate but much cheaper))
amzn.to/454vgnT
willow leaves mold
amzn.to/4bH6AUd
more florals:
amzn.to/3V5sQBK
- wood glue. I used Titebond glue, but you may want to use any good white glue you've got
amzn.to/44VkIaw
- radiator heat resistant paint (like this one) amzn.to/3yBz5Ew
be sure to use water based paint here, to stick well to the embellishments and add extra strength to them

I wish this art idea was around 30 years ago when I had radiators in my home, they were very ugly. I built cabinets over them to hide them. Great job on yours!

🌷 WOW!!! I didn't know such a thing was possible. The before and after is truly AWESOME!!! The bricks look SO REAL!!! It's amazing what you can do with less expensive items and work with what small things you have, and in the end, it all comes together nicely. GOOD JOB!!

I love the cardboard bricks. I was hoping you would do something with that back wall near top where it looked bad. Doing the entire wall was wonderful!👍🇺🇸

The whole thing turned out so amazing. You have such patience and talent. Growing up in Massachusetts's we had many radiators that stood on the floor, how ugly they were. I am in awe of.what you did.

Beautiful job❤!! Add a little cornstarch to your molds before you add the clay. They will detach much easier. Tfs

I love the beauty and details of your work! Your level of precision and finesse is astounding to me. You are so clever and so creative. The bronzed details look stunning! And, the bricks look so real, and so cozy. I'm impressed that the wood glue and cardboard will stand up to the heat of a radiator (but, I have heard that people put clothes on their radiators to dry them, and that seems ework for them).

This came out awesome! Sadly almost all trading with Russia has been cut off the last years because of ... reasons, but i realy hope it will change for the better in the future, a few years back i did order some parts for my dollshouse from a small company in Russia, among those a set of realy beautiful little windows, but i need more of them... ha ha

Irene, im assuming you are not using the radiator to provide heat. Functioning radiators can get quite hot and l fail to see how these decorations can stay attached. Wouldn't the glue melt once the radiator became hot? Also if these ornaments are made of resin, wouldn't they melt as well?

  • @IrenesDIY

Well, I attached the embellishments while the radiator was still hot, and as you can see nothing has melted☺️ air dry clay is not resin, it is mostly made of plaster, so it won't melt, as well as the glue, they just get dry and then stay as they are

This doesn't seem safe. I hope the radiator can hold all of that stuff without any fumes from cracks.
