Honestly, the way you describe Tatis's rise in SD feels a lot like the rise of Julio Rodriguez in Seattle this year. I mean, he was healthy most of the year, but he had the kind of immediate impact that lead to the Mariners first postseason game since 2001, and he was charismatic and likeable while doing it.

Tatis and JRod mirror each other in many ways. Lets hope for the sake of baseball that JRod makes the right decisions now that he's secured the bag, imo he's replaced Tatis as the potential face of the game.

@@Klocks420 Tatis is more fun to watch tho, although he is probably the less technically skilled and disciplined player, he is just a freak athlete with his defensive and hitting ability. Personally I think baseball fans need to stop with this stick in their ass about cheating. I am not a Padres fan and not defending steroid use, but baseball has the highest rate of cheating of any sport, its basically expected at this point. From sign stealing, to sticky stuff, to PEDs, no game is played on even ground. Biggest issue with tatis is injuries.

@@Bluey_777 I agree with your take on the cheating thing. My point about "face of baseball" has everything to do with the combination of generational talent and charismatic personalities. JRod and Tatis embody that...I remember when Jose Fernandez died I thought "We just lost the future face of baseball" because he was everything Tatis and JRod are just as a pitcher.

Great vid & breakdown of Tatisgate. As a Pads fan, I'm beyond psyched to see the dude back on the field again next season. But unless he learns from this and makes wildly different decisions next time around, the trust is never coming back. Hopefully seeing Kim rise to the occasion in his place, and watching his squad go on to wreck shop in the postseason without him there will drive it all home. The worst thing that could happen is he gets caught in a cycle of getting hit with more PED violations & suspensions, failing to take full responsibility, and eventually fading into obscurity as "that guy who was really good but no team will touch because of his history."

I actually think that the hate towards Tatis is a bit much. His personality is not that far off from what Machado was 10 years ago, but Machado grew up. Remember how much people hated on 20 year old Kobe? No one hated on 35 year old Kobe. As for the Clostebol thing. From the little I have read about Clostebol, in the doses Tatis was taking it probably had very minimal impact on his level of performance. The ring worm story is actually also quite plausible. I think more likely, however, that he was taking it to get over his injury sooner. This isn't HGH we are talking about. Tatis' head hasn't doubled in size. MLB's policy on steroids should really be looked at again. If you are injured and there is a product that will safely get you healthy faster, then there are enough doctors in MLB, that they can properly supervise someone during a recovery. Taking clostebol during an injury recovery isn't going to let you hit 60 bombs the next year. This story has been overblown, and I am not and never have been a fan of Tatis. There are far greater villains in the world though.

I can't imagine a situation where Kim isn't the starting SS going forward. They will find a spot for Tatis but Kim at SS provides so much defensive value that they'd have to be braindead to put Tatis back there... Then again it is the Padres so anything in possible I guess.

You talk about what he did for "baseball", bringing excitement back and crap. What u don't talk about is his unsportsmanlike conduct! Like all "commentators," you're so enthralled by his home runs you EXCUSE everything else. And ppl wonder why there's such a lack of character in sports today. Hit bat flips, chest pumping, strutting around the bases is so childish and takes away from the game! But, I know, "he hit a home run." Yeah, that excuse everything. A home run, a basket, a touchdown excuses all bad behavior! Very good! Such great and honest insight.

When you’re able to take the best pitchers and make their pitches look like little league soft toss pitches and take them yard then you can talk about how someone should act after they do it. Lmao it really amazes me how people who could never do that in thier life talk about how someone who can should act after they do. Just bc you want to live through players and imagine that’s what you would do doesn’t mean anyone should act how you would lol. They’re the best at what they do so they have the right to celebrate despite your feelings that don’t matter at all. Every sport has celebrations. The old unwritten rules in baseball is why it was the least watched sport a few yrs back and ppl like tatis are why people are watching again. Nobody cares about y’all’s feelings about it. The players with the most “on field class” were the worst people irl off the field and sometimes on too. The new generation are happy to switch out horrible people that were classy on field in front of folks for ppl that are genuine and bring energy and excitement to the game and are just as good if not better. The new generation is what keeps the game going just like any other sport. Y’all can stay behind and be grumpy and watch babe Ruth and Ty Cobb highlights while we enjoy this new and better era.

Bat flips chest pumps and strutting is just so awful lmao. Just a bunch of over sensitive old folks. If that bothers you you wouldn’t be able to watch and other sport and that’s why you watch baseball but now it’s getting my phased out so soon you’ll have nothing if you’re that sensitive over sone strutting and chest pumping. You say it like he idk charged the mound and beat up the pitcher or threw at someone’s head on purpose and caused a bench clearing. But oh wait that’s the stuff y’all are okay with. 😂 backwards thinking definitely.

I was at CBP when the Padres and the Phils played middle of summer 2021. Tatis won over every phillies fan there me included, he went to the left and right field corners and signed autographs for an hour and a half before the game. Made sure pretty much every kid there got something of theirs signed. Even after the news came out about this, I couldn't force myself to dislike the guy after seeing what I saw from him. There was even a tatis lookalike at the game like 20 rows in front of me (left field short wall.) Hair grown and dyed just like Tatis plus he had the uniform and sunglasses on. Great time that day.

Taking PEDs to recover from injury quicker could be forgiven, taking PEDs and owning it could be forgiven, what I wouldn’t forgive is the gaslighting of the fan base by him and his father and “mentors”. They denied, and lied and tried to die on that sword and play the victim. It wasn’t until they realized the fan base and the organization isn’t stupid that they tried to take accountability and even then they still stuck to the skin cream excuses. If I were a padres fan I’d be all in on Soto. Far better face of a franchise.

I’m paraphrasing but it’s basically like “ you’re the best player in the world stop acting stupid” he really is both stupid and the best player in the world . He’s gonna be back! They're trying to make baseball more fun to watch by changing some rules, such as adding a pitch timer. But it's still a very slow sport to watch, it's hard to keep up with it. I would recommend watching highlight videos, I don't think any other sport benefits from this as much as baseball. Baseball is exciting, it just takes too long to get to those parts, some people can't handle the suspense. So, I recommend just watching highlight videos until the postseason. I would say every moment in the post season is hype, just cause it's winner takes all.

as a Padre fan since 1973, what angered me most about his eff-up, was how oblivious and nonchalant about "our window" of oppurtunity. he was. I go back to the 2020 season, when we got swept by LA in the DS..one of Tatis' quotes after the game, was something like "we're just getting started...we're young..we have time". Well, yea..the Pads are relatively young. But I wonder if he would have made the same mistake if he had stepped back for one damn minute to realize that the Dodgers and even San Francisco, can revamp themselves, OVERNIGHT, with all the money they have. A lot of money came off of SF's books, when the season ended. So, they are going to improve, BIG TIME, in every possible way.. And if LA wanted to throw a STUPIDLY enormous amount of money at Judge, to sign him, they could do that...and with Walker Beuhler on the IL w/ TJ surgery rehab, the Dodgers are going to go find them some more pitching. So, part of Tatis' growing up needs to involve him understanding that play time with the tonka trucks and GI Joe dolls, IS OVER. No team stays good forever..and no team has an infinite amount of time to win a WS. And he if wants Machado to stick around, past his opt out year, in '24, then Tatis needs to pull his head out of his own ass, and roll his sleeves up, to get this team to a WS, WITH NO STEROIDS RUNNING THRU HIS VEINS.

I lived in SD for 10 years....they don't care about their guys using steroids...they love Caminiti, and still wear his jersey. I'm sure they remember Steve Finley fondly as well. Nobody ever talks about him doing roids, but his career high in HR was 11, and in his 8th season, when he joins the Padres, he becomes a 30 HR a year guy....it's magic. Caminiti's career high was 18 HR, goes to SD, and hits 40 and wins the MVP...he was never an MVP type player before that...was mainly a glove guy. But they, like all the other hypocrites, love to bash the Astros. The difference between the Astros and Padres, is that the Astros won when they cheated and the Padres didn't. Tatis will be welcomed back with open arms....they probably already forgot what he did.
