So cute! And practical! I bought a dress at a thrift store without being able to try it on that is a halter top that fits me terribly. I haven’t worn it once, but I love the material! I’m doing this project tonight!

That's my issue. I bought a dress online that's really cute, but the girls are way too big for the top, so I'm trying to find a way to salvage it.

When you stretch the elastic do you just eyeball it to be even?

Oh wow it’s funny, how I have the same dress with pockets the top did not fit so I removed the top but I did not know how to fix it , so I KZread “how to transform a dress into a skirt”. Your Chanel come up , I laughed because the dress was the same dress I need to fix. Smh lol thank you so much.

hey!! love the video but the dress I want to do this to has a waist about four inches bigger than my waist is there anything I should do to help with that?? cause im worried it will mess up the final product.

You can still do this--the elastic waist is really forgiving and 4" isn't too much extra fabric to gather into the waist for an adult size skirt. Make sure you still use elastic to match your waist measurement (don't make it bigger because the dress waist is bigger). In the end your skirt would be just a bit more gathered because of the extra material. If you have trouble stretching the elastic to match the fabric, try gathering the top of the skirt first so it matches your actual waist measurement, baste to hold that length, then sew on the elastic.
