    He lowers the regulator pressure, the pressure in the firing chamber, or plenum, to allow the valve to open easier...open further, open more allowing a greater volume of air to be released. The reg pressure from the factory was so high that the hammer couldn't open the valve enough to get a large enough blast to attain the velocity he was looking for no matter how much he increased the hammer spring tension. What's really nice about the 25 grain, .25 caliber JSB King is that it doesn't take a lot of velocity/energy to do the job...so to speak. R, Steve. Thanks for the video James!

    Perhaps I’m missing something but you “couldn’t get more power” initially - however you had the power adjuster on low. Then you decreased reg pressure but ALSO put the power adjuster on high. So couldn’t you get more power in the first place simply by turning the power to high? what am I missing?

    As I understand, leave the gun in high setting and adjust as normal and you will see your numbers move up and down with reg pressures adjustment and hammer adjustment. But it doesn't work that way with the transfer port in low. That's the best of both worlds for tuning the gun. Set it with the tune you want at high setting. Then set it to low if you want to plink. Reduces the amount of air and you will only see about what your getting. click back up to hight and you can go hunting. I love that I can plink up to 40 yds on low and set to high out to about 100 yds without retuning!!!

    Why did you leave the transfer port on low with 2400 reg pressure? It seems like that would cause a bottleneck limiting not only air flow but hammer spring adjustment potential. I realize you can get to different velocities and accurate results with different tunes but I'm just curious why it was left on low.

  • @ALLABOUTAIRGUNS

    @ALLABOUTAIRGUNS

    That's how it was from PA remember? Well actually in-between but more towards low so I put it to low after zeroing the scope....I wanted to see what the performance was on paper before any tuning and see if there was any poi shift...that way if people get their gun same way or settings they can adjust right away after this video...with settings out of the box it was maxed out for a 25.4gr pellet whether the transfer port on high or low, if hammerspring was turned inward and no fps was gained on Lo it'd be the same on HI settings as well without resetting the reg down...and plus on Lo you get alot of shots for close range plinking or hunting

  • @blindj

    @blindj

    @@ALLABOUTAIRGUNSYes I did remember it was like that out of the box. To be honest I did think with the transfer port on low it would limit the amount of hammer spring tension you could apply more than if the transfer report was on high. My thinking was that for instance in your case two and a half turns in was maxed out with transfer port on low. (Maxed out meaning no more velocity gained by turning it in further) BUT with the transfer port on high it would allow more are thus allowing more tention to be applied to the hammer spring. On low with maxed out at 2.5 with a 2400 rag but I was thinking on high you'd be able to get more like 3.5 or more. I'm actually curious and I'm going to try this on mine to see if it makes a difference. In my head it makes sense but I don't build air guns and I only have a few months experience with pcps. I retune my guns all the time because I shoot all kinds of different projectiles. 18-22 grain pellets and 17 - 22 grain slugs. I can get all of them very accurate/consistent but I only shoot out to 50 yds because of poor vision. I just shoot different projectiles and retune for fun. I shoot daily. When I pick up a new hobby I get kind of obsessive do tons of reading video watching and try to learn as much as I can.

    Yea I was at one of the diminishing returns (settings) spectrum and opposite would be lower/lowest reg settings you could go with most hammerspring and nothing would be a substantial gain unless hammerspring was backed off and reg settings raised due to wasting air from overpowered hammerspring...it comes down to mechanical tuning the first before fine tuning the pellets or slugs with hammerspring tension

    This is an awesome airgun for the money. Ordering the .22 tube version in wood stock in January of 2024 to replace my Nova Vista Liberty which still to this day is one of my most accurate PCPs and it holds its own with many of my high end airguns, however it is getting worn out. I do hope the barrel in my Liberty fits the Aveng X because I hit the freaking barrel lottery with that gun. It will hold a penny at 75 yards with 18.13s in no wind. 285$ back in the day! Thanks for the info bud. Happy holidays.

Like said you have to have this tuned right or you will lower FPS as the tank empties. Set right only the first few shots will be a little high but the rest will stay 25 cal i have it at 2500 reg, 3 in on HS. Shooting 29 grain JTS’s at 870 FPS.

    It's only rated 895fps with 25.4gr....hi or low transfer doesn't matter cause velocity wouldn't increase after 2.5x hammerspring turns inward means pressure is too much at 2400psi reg for the hammerspring that is shared between all calibers....definitely didn't design the Avenge X properly especially not changing the hammerspring every caliber

    Is it really creep? Is it really creeping up, or is it not refilling to its set pressure? When it "creeps" up, it may be filling to the pressure it's really set to. The rest of the time the regulator isn't completely refilling quickly as it should. My Robert Lane regulator merely quivers between shots; it's always at it set pressure as long as the reservoir pressure is greater than what the regulator is set for. That's my interpretation of Avenger regulator poor performance.

    Dude..... Lowering your fill pressure isn''t going to increase your speed.... Duh. And fill pressure is NEVER going to influence speed in a REGULATED airgun. Set reg to about 2500 psi. This is too high for .22, but great for .25 Set transfer port setting to High (duh again). Now increase hammerspring tension until desired velocity is reached. (I'd leave it at max minus 1 1/2 turn or so. 850 to 880 fps is a good speed for .25). Now fill up gun to max pressure. This wil NOT I repeat NOT decrease your pellet speed, since this is a REGULATED airgun. People, this is probably a very nice fellow, meaning well and all, but not too smart on airguns alas... Happy Holidays. Happy shooting.. Do yourself a favor and buy an AvengeX.

    I think he's demonstrating how to find the best pressure to set the regulator to for that specific weight pellet, and that specific hammer spring, at his specific altitude. I believe his next step is to set the regulator to that 2000psi value. When he lowers the reservoir pressure below the regulator set pressure, he's taking pressure off of the valve stem making it easier for the hammer and hammer spring to open the valve. That's giving him more adjustment range that he didn't have at the higher regulated pressure. That higher regulator pressure made it more difficult to open the valve stem thus exhausting the firing chamber pressure through the transfer port.
