Yes. I have a grand-daughter that has SUPER THICK (pony tail is like 3” wide!) would this technique work on her, or would she need more than 6 rubber bands?

Your model had the perfectly straight hair that made your instructions helpful IF your hair was strange got and evenly cut. But personally, my hair has tons of layers, waves and curls and even a major cowlick so the instructions don’t help me at all

Absolutely! Well done and easy to follow. More like these, thank you!
I like the way he actually has her do it all the way through, rather than showing us and doing it himself. Every time I think of cutting my own hair, I remember my self inflicted shag from the 70's. Many years later here I am doing it again, but I use my husband's clippers when I cut the ends which automatically texturizes it. At one time in our little town I had a stylist who did a point cut on me for the first time. She moved on of course, but it was one of the best cuts I ever had. It lasted a very long time. I lived in Portland for many years where this studio is. That place is totally top drawer! Excellent salon.
My seven year old just cut my hair following these instructions. She got bored halfway through and it still turned out well. Thanks!

The best hair cut tutorial and so easy to put into practice ... Thank you so much . Really appreciate that you let your client to cut her own hair , so it makes it easier for me to do it at hone
Bravo! Great tips for us straight hair girls, excellent help and training for those of us not able to get into the hair salon yet. Thanks!
This was fantastic! My hair had gotten very long but the ends were much thinner than the middle, and the length was pulling out my curls and waves. I cut off about 8 inches and it looks and feels so much healthier.
I have watched this video several times and finally got my nerve up. It went pretty fast. I followed my intuition on how much I trimmed off. It could have been a train wreck but it really turned out great! Got rid of the split ends and the long bangs. Fresh start,,, I really love it! It is a great tutorial.
I used this technique yesterday and I had great results! It was easier than the method I have been using. I just had to add a small angel in the front. Thank you for all the education you share. I would love to get a trim from you! 💕
Thank you for making this video, trimmed my long hair today. Come out perfectly!!
Incredibly helpful and you explain things so naturally. Almost like you're giving a Ted Talk. Plus, it doesn't hurt that the instructior is attractive with a pleasant demeanor. You're a saint for this!! ❤ Thank you!

Your video was the second I watch and thank God I did! I just cut my hair (for the first time in my 38 years of life) and took off 4 inches, positive the entire time I would be doing the walk of shame into a salon to have it fixed. However, it turned out perfect with the exception of two very small longer spots. This video was sooooooo easy to follow and I can’t thank you enough for sharing your wisdom!
Thank you for putting up content worth learning!
Thank you so much! I used this tutorial to cut my daughters’ hair, and it turned out amazing on both of them. This was incredibly helpful!
This was brilliant. Thank you for offering this informative content for free 👏🏼💖💈
Excellent! Easy to follow and the result was fantastic! I took 4inches off. (I'd love to add layers.) Thank you
This was awesome 🤩. Thank you Justin. 👏🏻
Just cut off 5 inches of my curly 2C/3A hair and it turned out perfectly!! Once it dried I added in long layers cutting the curls individually and it’s the best haircut I think I’ve ever had
I tried this by myself exactly as he instructed and it worked! I was pleasantly surprised how easy and quick it was to do. It did take me awhile to wet my hair and band my hair in sections but once I got that done, I just cut away. It turned out great! My husband was impressed. I watched many other videos before finding this one. I trusted his technique because it made a lot of sense. This is the only video worth saving for cutting your own hair. Thanks Justin for sharing your expertise!
Thank you so much. I'm really grateful for the tips, advise, and class.

Wow! I get it. Next time I cut I'll be watching this video again. 👍 To You Justin!!!
My life got a little complicated so I haven't had much time. I really needed to understand the different types of shears. I recalled you preferred a particular scissor and the perfect lesson was there! Watched someone else and I couldn't see a difference. In fact the man said there wasn't one. Turned it off because I knew that was inaccurate. Once again I enjoy the clear easy to understand techniques you present. So good to be back.

Thank you! I have waist length hair & I have found no one who was able to properly trim my hair. They either just comb it out straight down & either use scissors or a trimmer & go straight across. Every single time is it lopsided or I had long tags. Now I can trim it on my own without paying a pretty penny only to have it mangled.
This was 👍🏻 great! Thank you!

This is the clearest, most competent video. ALL the rest for diy cuts are useless. I've never cut my own hair. BUT the hairdressers in the UK are expensive and I've had so many disasters. Figured I'd rather be mad at myself for a mistake than pay for theirs. So I'm going to give this a go. Fingers crossed, if it doesn't work, I'll be back and tell you.
Fantastic. I live in the UK and my own stylist closed shop (BC-before covid) and another one I tried (AC - after covid) was awful. I live in the UK and had to finally cut my own hair and found Justin's video. I never went back to a hair stylist. Thank you.

This was great!! Especially during the pandemic. My hair is so much better. Now what about bangs? Side, curtain, etc!!
This worked for me. My first hair cut done this way. Turned out ok, but then I used the thinning scissors to soften the ends as I found it difficult to do the point cutting, but I think it would help to have a quick tutorial on how best to use the thinners. I had a good hair cut until that point. The thinners were ok but it added 'dryness' and I may have gone too far with the 'thinning'. But a good first start. Thanks for the tutorial.

Great video will good old sharp dressmaking scissors work ?? I am def going to be trying this out
Yes! This makes so much sense. I was wondering...when you pull the low pony to the side and trim don't you need to pull to the other side and trim?

What is the purpose of splitting the hair into sections? My hair is quite fine and thin. Can I get away with splitting my hair down the center of my head into two sections and then using the elastics to cut off my ends?

Thank you so much! If I have a friend cut a straight line across my back will it look better or is it best to trim the low ponytail?
@justinhickox
3 жыл бұрын
Great question! If you have a friend that can clean up the back after you’ve cut the length, that would be ideal. But if you’re alone, the low pony is a great way to clean it up yourself. I will say, you’re likely better off cutting the length yourself then having your friend just clean up the middle.
WHy'd the instructions say to have thinning shears when you never used them in the video?
at the end of the video, did she choose to do the blunt cut when she had it all in one ponytail vs. point-cutting it ? Do you have to perfect it like that at the end?
great & easy to understand! my only suggestion is showing the dry hair a little more at the end

And if you don't want the straight across look and cut every point tail the same length to have the round bottom... When you pull the hair back into one ponytail, do you still cut it straight across or leave it as is?
Is there a different step for side parted hair?

Tip of 20$ !!!??😂 In Europe we give 1 or 2$ as tip if we have some cash 💰 if not we don’t give. Why would you give so huge tip ? It’s their job to cut and they charge for it. So you already pay them and employees have their pay too… No new to give huge tips..
Best method and explanation so far. But I did not like black robe for cutting black hair for demonstration purpose. A white gown would have helped to see the results and process clearly.
I wish this one was out earlier. I had my daughter-in-law trim the back of my hair (it was too hard for me to reach) and of course... I now have a straight hard line. Lost my layers and have to figure that out for the back. I like this video. very helpful...just too late for me :(
