Today, I’ll be talking about Kybella, which is an injectable product to use to reduce the size of the fat pad under our chin as commonly called double chin or submental fat. Kybella or deoxycholic acid is a natural substance in our body. We have it in our digestive tract, it is used to process fats in the same way it is isolated, and it's used as an injectable product to disrupt the fat cells causing inflammation that will kill the fat cells, and then our body will dissolve them and remove them from the area that's injected in. Kybella is approved for the double chin area and once injected it will cause swelling and bruising of the area, it will cause lumpiness and some minor pain within the first hour of injection, after that the swelling will go down a little by little. Usually, over the first one to two weeks, the majority of swelling will be gone, and the bruising will disappear. Within about a month, you should notice reduction in the size of the fatty area, and you could repeat the procedure in four to six weeks. Past our baby age, we are not able to produce new fat cells, therefore, the results would be long-lasting. The downtime with Kybella is about one to three weeks depending on how fast your body is able to clear up the swelling and bruising, that is the downside of Kybella, unfortunately, is swelling and bruising. You should not schedule this procedure within about a month of any major events, however, it is a great non-surgical option that could be done in your lunchtime and takes less than half an hour to do.
