I'm in a wheelchair so travel can be a challenge. My husband and I discovered home exchanges years ago and we enjoyed the South of France and Paris and Provence. Home exchanges lets you steep yourself in the lifestyle and culture of where you are staying. Paris is my favourite city and I loved every moment there. Thanks for your videos.

You’re very welcome for my videos. I wanted to let you know that even though you are in a wheelchair there is a company called called “wheel the world’ and I’m sure they aren’t the only ones. I like the idea of home exchange also. I would love to hear some of your experiences that you had during a Home exchange. Did you have to have a car or were you able to get around in the area?

My husband and I had traveled quite a bit in Europe before he passed in 2020, and when we got to a new city we always used the "Red Bus" exactly as you described. We loved Paris and had visited 3 times. This fall my daughter and granddaughter and I are going for my granddaughter's 21st birthday. It will be fun to see their reactions! And we will be traveling on a shoestring. Merci, Janice.

Very good advice. I've lived in Europe since 2002 and I've travelled all over Europe seeing the best of it on a budget so I know what you're saying is so right. There's no point checking into an international skyscraper block hotel that you can find the same in any city. Stay in a small boutique hotel or BnB it's still cheaper and your experience will be so much richer. Eat breakfast it will set you up for the day and take a piece of fruit from breakfast and fill up your water container. Walk walk in the gorgeous parks or along the Siene, enjoy. Don't waste money on Taxis. Don't follow the crowd. I've been living in Italy for 20 years and I've seen every corner of it and still so much to see. ❤ red

Some great advice. When my daughter and I went in 2019, we stayed at a very nice boutique hotel that was extremely reasonable, and included an amazing breakfast and happy hour. Hi Janice. I did write you a long comment on one of your videos. : ) I was in Paris in December and I've just booked another trip at the end of March. I had an old plane ticket that was canceled because of Covid that I had to use. Yay! The last trip was all food and sightseeing. This trip is for looking at neighborhoods, getting used to the Metro, etc. I want to move there so time to get serious! This video of yours and a few books I'm reading are giving me some great ideas. One idea you gave me is to think about not living right in the city and think about places outside a bit as well. Thanks so much for your videos! They are so helpful and entertaining. : ) And I'm getting a Navigo pass! And I can't wait for your next video!

Also look at amenities in the area, supermarkets, bakery, doctors pharmacy... You will need to go by public transport or bike until you get a french drivers licence. A big village will be fine but not to rural because of travel times to these things.

If you have a membership at many American museums, you can visit Musee d'Orsay without cost and several American museums also have reciprocity with the Louvre. You can find out before you go. Air B & Bs in Paris have not always worked out well but there are good small family owned hotels that will negotiate a reduced fee if you are staying for 5 or more days.

My recommendation re flight prices - truly consider travelling off season, eg winter. Winter in Paris is cold, but certainly not as cold as many parts of N. America! Flights off season are super cheap. And Bonus! you would have many or the touristy places to yourself - win win. PS. Agree D'Orsay.

To visit Paris for a week you need around 2000$ or less depending on the hotel…. That’s tickets, accommodations, food, transportation in Paris and site seeing….. yep, airline tickets can be 420-500$ round trip. I do not book hotel with breakfast, usually breakfasts are expensive and can be avoided. Yes, there are good hostels even in Paris. I do not use taxi or Uber…. I use metro….. once you get the gist of how to navigate trough metro in Paris is absolutely great. Navigo pass is 22,80 euro for a week.

Love your you tube. We are going to retire in France. I am having trouble finding a reasonable medical insurance rate. We are both 72 years old and have our pensions, savings and Medicare insurance. I have quotes that are exorbitant. 3k to 12k per month! We are in excellent health. Can you or any of your followers explain this and recommend a less expensive plan.

I have an insurance I used from Ireland. It only cost me like €420 because that’s all you’re going to need it probably won’t pay for that much but you can pay out-of-pocket for so many things. Yes it seems the older we get the more they want to raise our insurance. You won’t be able to use your Medicare here but insurance for a year to get the visa is what you want to focus on now. Then when you get here after three months you can apply for insurance with France

This was so nice! You’ve got me thinking of my favorite thing to do, plan trips! Bruges, is all about chocolate! So pretty! I bought lace hankies for my older cousin, and all the chocolate for myself. 😁 People on a budget should also consider traveling off season. Hotels and flights are much cheaper. There could be a few things outside of Paris that may shutdown sometime after tourist season, so keep that in mind if you have a particular destination. Everything is online to check out. Keep in mind, big cities like Paris also have convention seasons where the flight from the US is cheaper, but the hotels book up and can be more expensive, or you need to book in advance. Not sure how the pandemic will change this. Because I love to travel, when I’m bored, I pretend I’m going somewhere, and I do this throughout the year. You can also monitor the weather, and see what time of year will be best for you.

I am not sure if the Tuesday Wednesday bargain exists anymore. Most airlines show you a week of prices and you can choose a day from that around your dates, if you are flexible. Also, because of inflation a lot of Paris cafe’s were serving frozen foods.. to the point that the government started a program where they give restaurants a sticker to put in their window with the shape of a house on it to show that their food is homemade.. So when looking for delicious food on a budget.. look for the Maison symbol on door and a tiny restaurant like the lovely les petite olivier on 82 rue Cherche midi.

I love Croque Monsieur, or Croque mademoiselle. Cheese on toast , or ham , cheese on toast , or Homemade Soups or Salads for lunch. All inexpensive, and then we enjoy a Restaurant meal at night. Other reasonably priced menus are the Plat de Jour, for lunch( Menu of the day.) You will still have 2-3 choices of entree, main, dessert. Or just choose 2 courses....all delicious where I've eaten, I live in Southern France, Remember there are great Cities and Towns, apart from Paris.( sorry, not my personal favourite) Try Toulouse or Lyon. We buy all our fresh produce from The farmers markets. Cheaper than Supermarkets and so, so fresh. Bruges is the most beautiful place, to visit . Also, not a trip from France, but I'd encourage anyone to visit Salzburg ( home of The Sound of Music) Brilliant tours, We've visited in Summer and over Christmas and will, definitely, visit again. Thanks for your tips Janice. We're not all rich, and I get sick of watching those people, for whom money is no problem, on You Tube!!

No someplace will charge a little less if it’s just you also when you say that maybe you want a twin bed because there’s no one else with you you can get a little bit of a less rate. It just depends on where your staying. I even had a tourist agency It takes a bus around various places a couple of years ago and they wouldn’t take me alone. I don’t know if they still do that now. After Covid, they may have changed their rules. But it made me very angry I can tell you that lol
