People in Brazil offer their seats in the bus. It's rather common.
I joined your community in hopes of contacting you as I will be in Paris in June, but I did not see an email listed. When I responded to the welcome email it bounced back as undeliverable . I was hoping to meet for coffee if yours and my schedule allow.
Thank you for letting me know. We are doing some changes to my website and that might be it but please try to go in again and see if it works. My email is [email protected]
Hello Janice, I so love spending time with you in France, watching all your youtube videos. Thank You for living them & sharing them with us.❤ Nicolette
You are so welcome. Thank you so much for taking the time to write such kind words.
Love your channel!
Thank you and thank you for watching
I didn’t find the information about the trip to Paris on your website. Is the trip already happened?
No, there won’t be anything until 2025. I’m so sorry.
Janice I'm curious what senior services do they have there because I know not everyone is a spring chicken like you. What happens when someone's mobility gets to the point where they can't do all of this?
There’s all kind of ways that you can order your groceries and have them sent. In fact, my neighbor does it in the winter when she can’t get out
Have you met any cute men that are single to date? They do have some attractive older men there! 😊😊❤
No and honestly I have a friend that’s in the army and I go to various cocktail parties and little things like that but I’m not really interested in dating anyone in a relationship way
The grocery store pay for cart deal is like ALDIs grocery store in the states. There is an insert that goes into the cart hook up. That when inserted pushes out the coin! There ya go! Money back! 😊
Yes, but I had never shopped at Aldi in the states so that was the first I had ever seen it
Hello again! Thought I'd let you know Aldi is a German grocery store and is very popular in Europe as well in the USA. Their prices are much lower than regular grocery stores and the food is of really nice quality. I checked to see if they are in France and found that they are! Paris has a lot if them as well as so many other locations around France. But now thinking if you have no car and there are none close by your location then it's a mute point. Anyway, just thought I'd let you know about that little info!😊! Have a great wknd Janice!
I’m also basically an only child -my only sibling is 16yrs younger-. I felt so seen when you said “I’m selfish”. I really have to catch myself and that tendency sometimes.
You know, I do think that we have a selfish tendency, but is it really selfish or is it just a basic need for us to take care of ourselves because we are an only child? What do you think?
Love your videos and the apartment tour. I moved to France from the UK five years ago when I retired and it's the best decision I ever made. A couple of points: exposed pipes are certainly not the norm in any French home built or renovated in the past several decades. My guess is that the owner upgraded the property at some point but didn't want to spend the money on sinking the pipes into the walls. I don't know anyone with exposed pipework. The regulations for plumbing and electrics in France are among the most stringent in the world, but exposed pipes are really a cosmetic issue and I doubt that the regs cover this. On electricity, the issue is voltage, not wattage. Europe operates on 230 volts against 120 in the US. If you plug a US food processor into a French socket, it could well explode. Electronic gizmos like computers and phone chargers usually work on either voltage. The label will state this. Welcome to France, Janice. You're making the most of an amazing adventure.
Well personally, I can’t wait for you to see my other update on my apartment because I think I have changed it twice since that video and the latest is the most awesome that I’ve done. I love the exposed pipes and you’re probably right they didn’t want to take the time or money, but since this is a rental property, they probably don’t care lol this building was built in 1952 so it’s as old as I am
Love it love it! I'm 44 and I would love to do what you doing ... run from it all and start fresh. Would love to be your neighbor in fountain blue 😊
Go for it! But I wasn’t running from it; I was running for it.
@@JaniceInFrance thank you!
They don't want old people who are poor. France is already burdened by their own poor elderly.
I don’t know if the French would say it exactly that way, but they certainly won’t be burned by me
Hi Janice: I am very curious about costs. I am 70 Years old and my spouse and I are strongly considering a move to France for the remainder of our golden years. Can you explain what happens regarding Social Security payments when you relocate permanently to France. Specifically I am curious about what happens to Medicare withholding for Medicare. For me that is in excess of $500 per month. Does that stop and can I count that as income to purchase French Healthcare? Thanks; Wayne
You keep your Medicare if you want are you can let your Medicare go if you want. It depends on if you’re ever going to go back to the states. I had some friends that just recently moved to niece and they let both of their Medicare coverages go because they don’t plan on going back to the states. I still have my Medicare. You receive your pension and you’re Social Security through your check in your bank account in the states. You cannot get a bank account here in the country of France unless you have a residency card. As of now, I still have all my money in my bank in the United States.
Moves, even small ones are incredibly stressful. I made an Insterstate move about 8 years ago and I ended up with Shingles from the stress . I was only moving 500 miles away but I was also travelling back and forth to interviews before the move and driving in horrible weather. It's a lot which is why I commend you on making this move.
Yes, it is. Thank you so much.
So so happy to see you again! I have never been to France but I will someday. I’m torn between moving to the UK and France. So I think a trip will help immensely with coming to a decision. Listening and watching you explain your way of life now and how you’re handling it is very helpful. We are the same age and sometimes it feels like it should be easier to decide where you really want to live and enjoy, but sometimes not! It’s got to be hard learning new ways of life and rules, and customs etc. It’s hard for me to understand how you as a single person at this age living a new life without a partner or friend from the states. I have so many questions for you, but I am going to use my google to see how many I can get answered! 😆 😅 I hope we will see you very soon again to see how your story goes❤. Til then, Ciao👋👋
Also, at the end of June, I will have an e-book and the first 500 people that sign up for it get it for free
I so enjoy listening to your stories. My mother, who is 98 and just waiting for death, never did anything in her life and always criticized me saying I was chronically unsatisfied with things. Janice , I have lived all over the U.S and each year, with the exception of 2020, my birthday gift to myself is a trip to a new country. I believe there are some of us that understand that life is very short and if you don't hurry and extract all the flavor you can from it your time runs out.
Absolutely and if you ever ever ever make it my way, please let me know when we will meet and just talk and talk and talk
@@JaniceInFrance I have one more of my gift to myself trips coming up to Iceland and then after that I am going to start scouting France to see where I land. I will definitely make it a point to meet up with you I would love to barvarder avec toi en marcharnt Versailles. Merci
Janice, I'm a knitter so this episode was just joyous for me. You are definately wearing these items not the other way around. Glad you are showing that age does not have to turn you into a frumpy mess.
No it doesn’t and that is one thing I would like to do with my new branding that is coming up with the end of June. I want to reach out to companies and say hey, we’re still out here we don’t wanna be forgotten just because we’re older doesn’t mean we want to look like grandma Moses
I am truly sorry about losing Buster. My little dog is named Buster. They are family members. I heart goes out to you but I am so happy that you have Max to help comfort you.
Thank you, me too
You have a beautiful life there. It is so nice that you can have your cat and dog. One thing that may keep Buster safer while he is out would be to get him a harness. My vet advised me to use a harness because my one little dog had a collapsing trachea and the harness doesn't pull on the neck. Just an idea. You are so brave to have made the move to France. What do you do if you need healthcare? I am 65 and that would be a concern if I moved from the US to France.
Buster died in March
And as far as healthcare, I will give you all that information at the end of June in my e-book the first 500 people that sign up for it get it for free
Yes! BE KIND TO PEOPLE AND TO YOURSELF. Is the best advice. Thank you so much for your video.
You are so welcome!
You look beautiful! you're living what a lot of people dream about being able to do. Love your videos.
Thank you so much!!
You are simply extroidinaire, magnifique! You are my inspiration I am in the process of wrapping up my life here in the states. I have another 4 years to figure out just where I'll be landing and to at least have my basic French intact. I have spent time in the South of France, my first trip abroad was 15 years ago and back then I never thought I could afford to live in France. Well, 2024 my rent is close to $2000 in Florida. Never thought I'd see the day when my rent would be higher than most places in Europe. Love your videos. I , like you, am totally addicted to KZread. I learn something new everyday.
Thank you so much for watching my videos and I do hope you subscribe and I can’t wait to talk to you later
My feeling❤❤❤❤❤
You’re so sweet and I love your tips on traveling with our older friends. ❤ it’s so true, I wish my parents would take note! 💙
Thank you
Beautiful narrative. I applaud you. I have dreams of doing that, however I have 4 children and grandchildren who I am very close to and find my joy in life with them. You’re amazing
Wonderful dreams! Thanks for your kind words.
We move in 3 months… Very excited
Yippee where
Actually those bottom floor apartments are usually the cheapest because most at risk of water damage, thieves, etc... And usually harder to heat. In most buildings you also have an elevator. Just some of the really old ones don't.
Mine was built in the 1950’s so it does.
You are who I want to be ❤️✈️🌎
Thank you
I am your age 72 I was a f/A for 39 years. I feel Paris is home but wasn’t brave enough to move. My life in the States is not the life I want to live even though I have everything I could want. I feel my home is Paris. Help me know how to move to my dream land.❤️✈️
Video will come out the end of June and there will be a free e-book the which you can download it just read the parts you need and it should answer many of your questions. It’s free
Salut!🙋♀️
Merci
Loved this video! It is so refreshing to hear from a fellow boomer. Your journey is inspiring.
Thank you so much!!
We have just brought a house in rural France Beautiful setting, very quiet with land . I’m looking forward cultural, new life and piece and quite
Well, I’m looking forward to visiting! Just kidding
One question and one comment. Have you watched "Sabrina" - 1995 film with Harrison Ford and Julia Ormond? If not, please do. And now the comment: It sounds like you come from a rich or upper middle class family.
Of course about 10 times
Wonderful haul. everything different compared with United States of America. Thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Today, I started to watch your videos, and it is fascinating what you did. How much is your rent you utilities, your food monthly. Is it difficult to understand how you can live in France with a budget? At least you need to have some savings o be rich . Can you tell us how you survived?
I have a free e-book coming out at the end of June. It will answer most of your questions.
Thank you for your great videos.. quick question .. do you have to pay tax in France from your retirement income from the USA? Kind Regards Carole
No need
I know exactly what you mean about being a social introvert. And the older I get the more me time I need. Alone, with my dog and lots of nature to recharge my "batteries"
Yep
Excellent. Thank you
You are welcome!
Versailles, or Fontainebleau, are dream cities if you want to live in the Paris area.
Congrats!
Hi. Im a new subscriber, just wondering how much do you pay for your apartment in Versailles and how many rooms? Merci
I live in fountain blue, but my consultant is in Versailles
29:39 You don't pay for a caddie. You put one Euro in - but more likely a plastic or metal token (un jeton) - to unlock it, and you get it back when you lock the caddie back in the rack. You should have waited one second longer at 23:59 and you would have seen her getting her Euro back. It was implemented as an incentive to get people to stop leaving their caddies strewn all over the parking lots or downright bringing them home and it worked.
Thank you for the info
Loving this video Janice!
Thank you for watching
awe Max so sweet. I'm trying to learn French and Italian... it's challenging to understand when it goes by in conversation so fast. I just love that you recognize companionship and love is always appropriate. Taking a chance and being open.
Thank you for your kind words. Oh my goodness trying to learn two languages at one time. Geez, I’m having a tough time just learning one.
Well said Janice. Good for you!
Thank you
Janice, you are absolutely fabulous and perhaps one of my favorite KZreadrs ever! Your videos are great and so helpful. Bravo!
Wow, thank you!
A delightful video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
You are so brave.
I think I’d rather say stubborn lol
