EXCEPTIONAL! I had wondered about the leaning/steering. I love how you make sure to repeat that it takes months and how important the positive reinforcements are, as well as to make sure the dog likes it...and not to force them. I find your slow talking very soothing and easy to understand. I feel that is probably a big plus in your training as well. Thank you so much for this great informational (2-part) video on some of your training techniques. Again, exceptional!!

our dog loved rides loved to be on my husbands motor cycle as soon as he got the sense of motion realized he could take himself for a ride he was gone on the board the kids just loved it.. rip mickey see you soon little man

Thanks for this 2-part tutorial on teaching your dog to skateboard. This is the best instruction I have seen on the subject and I appreciate the way that you go into such detail as installing the O-ring into the front of the board and adjusting the trucks, along with all your tips like teaching them to steer by practicing on a sidewalk with bushes on one side. These are the kind of really helpful things that this 60-yro, granny is not going to automatically think to try! I have trained my own 2 service dogs, but that's a different story because I know how to do the things that I want them to do. I want to teach them to skateboard for their enjoyment, but I don't know how to skate! Thank you ever so much. Just a word to some of the other viewers - don't try to teach your dog "tricks" before you have taught them obedience (that training is for both of you because you need to learn how to communicate with your dog and how to train them). And, never stop practicing and perfecting their obedience - it can save their life, it will make them a much better dog to have around, and it will increase the bond between the 2 of you when done correctly, lovingly, and intelligently. Then they will be much more willing to trust you when you want to teach tricks to them and it's a matter of your "team" learning something new, not the 2 of you pulling in opposite directions and you eventually blaming the dog (too stupid, too lazy) and the dog not trusting you (which is the real problem, not laziness or intelligence - you must earn their trust).

Thank you for these two videos! I have just started training my portuguese water dog to skateboard. So far she likes it ... she uses two front paws so far but I can see that she is picking up one rear paw as if she wants to put it on the board, so I think she will figure it out soon. Your video has lots of very good tips and instructions that will help us a lot. Thank you for being so clear and describing all the step so carefully. Details matter!

Dogs that skateboard are badasses

Great tutorial! All of my bulldogs have been obsessed with the skateboarded and have taken to it very quickly--though we do all sorts of other tricks and they don't get a lot of time to practice their skills. The biggest problem is keeping them calm around the board, and this method is a great way to do that (I use food rewards, too)

Good question.. All of my dogs skateboard very fast and for long periods of time, when I change the grip tape I use something flat like a ruler and scrape the tape so it would not be so rough but other than that no problems at all, then again these dogs are athletes and have developed strong pads.. What kind of skateboards do you recommend for dogs? I've heard that cruiser boards are best for dogs, and that for a larger dogs they should ideally be 8 - 9" wide, do you agree with that? Any particular brands? You said in this or the previous tutorial something like "I like to cut my boards" so they are not longer than the dog. I like how your boards are almost square for the dogs to stand on, they look very stable and well fitting. So you cut the ends off to make them like that? How do you do that without damaging them?

@jeppe344 Hi there, like you said it took you 2 hours !!! this training is nothing but repetition if the dog likes it, it will come... train only a few minutes per day so the dog doesn't get tired of it and you will see results later than sooner but they will be good...

+Its Anastacia noooo! that'll only make him hate the skateboard, and then you'll never be able to teach him! remember at the start of part 1 where he talks about the dog needing to already be obedience trained? yeah, well that's Ranveer's problem. his dog is not obedient, and needs lots of normal dog training before he could even try the skate board

I think over-feeding will kill the dog before he learn how to ride a skate board.
