As much as I wish I had sent my dog to Brandon for training before bringing him home kzread.infoUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU I am so grateful for this down-to-earth, practical guide. His training techniques and tips really work. Thank you as well for dedicating your life's work to rescue dogs, and to rescuing those of us who want the very best for our 4-legged family members.

We have done 36 wks of group training (1hr each), signed up for 20 more. 2 wks of board and train and almost nightly training walks/sessions. He is coming along, lots of work needed. Socialize the ever living heck out of the dog, id do nightly from 10-16wks.

I feel like ive let my dog down by not engaging and just drilling. He will walk till he gets bored and then just abandons me and forgets I exist. Im so excited because I tried this and it actually worked and he was way more interested in me and was engaging and idk it made me feel better about myself because he felt better with me. Thanks!

The “big picture” part of this is very helpful for me. My puppy is 12 weeks old and I find myself having too high expectations, so I try and correct every little thing. This gives me confidence to just let him be a puppy and work on small things at a time. Love your videos sir.

I really appreciate the idea of establishing the desire to work with me before worrying about every little micro thing. It makes perfect sense not to worry about a few small undesirable behaviors until you get that macro behavior first.

Thank you very much Will for showing this method of training. Most trainers do not put any value to forming a relationship while training. It makes so much sense. I am presently trying to retrain a friend's dog that is simply 'wild'. It is one of the most stubborn dog I know - a 4 year old Jack Russell that had never been properly trained. It was bought for a 5 year old child who has no idea about training a dog to walk on a lead. Parents are not keen to walk the dog because it pulls so hard. I shall try to break the cycle using some of your principles. Thank you. Best wishes.

It's funny you mentioned the "puppy voice"...I found my dog always listened to my daughter spot on, and she talked in a higher pitched voice...so I tried it with my Mastiff Pitbull mix, and it works wonders...I think it's a more positive sound to the dog than a deep command....and they just seem to respond to positive reinforcement versus stern commands...like it you said, it makes it fun...

The dogs trainers show on their channels never seem to be like really inexperienced pups which are basically nuts - rolling around, chewing the lead, smelling the ground/grass, picking up feathers or slugs, freezing when the hear a car, chasing after a bird in a tree etc etc.

Wow, holy crap. I got a puppy 2 weeks ago he's 16 weeks old. I am also in the Facebook group. He seemed miserable on walks. I couldn't get him to go two blocks, and then he'd turn and pull on the leash desperately trying to get home again. I got a 12 foot section of rope and tried this today and we walked 30 minutes down a logging trail road that hooks up to the street back home. This time he wanted to keep going! He's a German Shepherd mix. Maybe some kind of bull terrier too. Unknown. With GS dog he's going to have a lot of energy. Now I can **finally** take him on longer walks! I have been primarily following your courses. I trained four other dogs with the Monks of New Skete method. This is the first time I have had a reluctant puppy.

I love the information you give about why you are doing it and what the dog needs opposed to some people just telling you what to do. I did have a question about the slip lead - some people are opposed to them as they believe them to be cruel on the dogs but I wondered what you would say to someone with that belief? Thanks again. My boyfriend loves your videos. I watch them because I like to check out what he likes, and you are such a delight. One small problem: I don’t own a dog. Guess I’ll be teaching my rabbit to heel tomorrow.

Hi Will. Thank you again for a lovely joyous video of dog training. I think it also needs to be said that owners need to be prepared to put in the necessary time when the dog is at this age to establish this crucial bond. And why wouldn't you want to if you have such a beautifully lively puppy like Riley. Many thanks to all of you.

we are getting our second labrador pup ...our 12 year old precious old lab passed in august . she was a massive puller , which was hard to overcome. Watching this video has given me the confidence to start early with new pup on leash pulling. Im very small and petite and can get pulled literally off my feet. Does being small make a difference in training? im going to be doing the most training this time as hubby is working full time. He is 6 foot and trained our last pup. Many thanks

I've noticed in a couple of these videos the positive reinforcement you can provide when the puppy does what you want to follow you and look up to you with the change of directions. When I've tried this though, I have found its possible for the puppy to be stubborn and want to continue on its chosen direction or sometimes change direction, follow you and accept the praise, but then bolt ahead and pull into the changed direction. These videos are less clear on what to do it the puppy doesn't give you a behaviour to praise initially.

Whatever reward your using isn't motivating enough for pup, your reward needs to be better in pups eyes than the environment surrounding them. Try some higher quality rewards like chicken, sausage etc.

Its more of an engagement issue. I would recommend more games and more “vocal praising” rather than using food. In every walk and game they will learn to follow your lead
