How to Time Align Vocals with Melodyne! Fix Vocal Timing

Melodyne for pitch correction? Obviously! But did you know that you can also use Melodyne to fix vocal timing?

Hopefully Celemony will come up with some sort of Auto-Aligning in their Version 6 just like VocAlign Ultra / Revoice Pro ..

Very helpful, thanks. Trying to use Vocalign yesterday was an absolute nightmare. Maybe this will work better for me.

Happy you found it helpful! Let me know if you have any questions. Vocalign is so hit or miss depending on the type of vocal you give it

The tip about aligning from the start of the vowel is helpful. Does the pitch modulation (wavy line) always start at the beginning of the vowel section of a note?

I find that that is usually a good indicator - yup!

When I try to stretch a clip, it moves it. I am in the time tool with the entire segment selected that I want to stretch. Any idea how to stop that?

Hey! I think in this case I was using the plugin version and not the integrated ARA version in Protools. To get multiple tracks in the melodyne window you just need to put melodyne on those other tracks in Protools and you’ll have the option to toggle visibility on inside of melodyne

So the vowel is where the squiggly line begins after the attack?

  • @MichaelWuerth

In most cases yes, but you’ll have to base it on the word itself. For example, an M sound will have pitch and Melodyne will note that with the squiggle line but in that case the M is not the vowel, you know?

@@MichaelWuerth oh, this is good info, and great context. So in case of the Ms and I imagine Ns, would we line up to them, or still stick to the vowel rule? Thanks for this btw, I've watched several of your videos over the last few months and have never properly thanked you.

@Hive5ive yeah! In my experience consonances tend to be the lead up and vowels tend to be where we hear the note actually start. Thanks so much for watching my videos. I really appreciate the feedback :) Are there any topics you’d like to see covered in future videos?

@@MichaelWuerth No worries, you make useful and helpful stuff. I personally work a lot with vocals, so that's how I came across your page. Anything related to professional workflows for vocal tracking, editing, comping, production ideas would be 100% up my alley. I know I can't be the only one who feels like this doesn't get covered well enough. There's lots of production and beatmaking/mixing type stuff on here, but the vocal is THE thing. Without that, the rest of the production really doesn't matter. Thanks again.
