this video just about stopped me from ruining my coilovers. I searched all over, and this is the only one with the same top nut arrangement (I have STs, the cheaper version of your KWs). I believe after watching this I have realised how my original suspension got shot, by using a torque driver on the top nut and excessively spinning the shaft inside the shock. Those ones you stick an allen key in the middle while you undo the top nut. I was about to attempt to remove the 9mm on the top, believing that was the top nut, as we have the adjustment allen in the middle, All in all thank you.

It’s also referred to as a pass through ratchet. You can get the same effect with a Allen key, a socket for the nut, and a pair of vise grip to grab the socket lol. That’s only in severe situations though. Just buy a pass through lol

Or an offset box wrench. Still don't understand why they don't make hex shaped exteriors on sockets. Then every socket would be a pass through. Plus you could use those crow foot adapters on your torque wrench and tighten to spec. None of this guessing.

Dude this video is a life saver. I’ve been feeling like my coilover was blown. Always super clunky and then when I open the hood the nut on the high hat is loose, every time I try to tighten it the whole cylinder spins. I thought it had to do with my dampening adjustment being stripped. But I now think this will fix my issue, gotta buy that open ended set. Many props to you bro.

I wish I had seen this months ago replacing stock shocks on a 96 Fleetwood. Would have saved me a lot of headache. Especially because the attachment points are not as easy to access as the ones in your video. I have been putting off replacing the control arms because it requires me to take the shocks off again but this method has me feeling more confident about tackling that project.

I don't understand why they don't make sockets with hex exteriors.. Then every socket would be a pass through for those times when you need it. Plus, you could use wrench adapters for torque wrenches and not guess in situations like these, where that torque range on the end nut means something.

Nah brah, easier way. One tool. Go get a rubber strap wrench (sometimes only a new one will work since its more sticky and the strap hasnt been warped into a U shape cross-wise by tension) wrap the strap tight around the shaft and grip it against the handle. There is a certain way it goes to where the more it twists the greater the grip strength gets, after at most one or two rotations of the top nut where its still just spinning the shaft it will grab and youll feel the top nut break loose - now youre cookin and the nut is being tightened to the top hat and spring perch via the washer (conical on subarus) this used to be my worst enemy but once i figured this out i can remove, disassemble and reassemble and reinstall all four struts in like 90 minutes by myself if i hurry
