How to tie the best saltwater fly for beginners. 2023 4K

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this tutorial I review in my opinion one of the best saltwater flies to tie, especially for beginners. This is another extremely versatile fly representing many forms of bait fish and will catch a wide verity of fish in saltwater and freshwater. To simplify this fly for beginners I placed a Fish Skull head over the eye and head of the fly to neaten it up and give it a little head weight. In its simplest form, this can be tied with natural white bucktail and Krystal Flash.
After I tie the basic form of this fly, I will show you how to make some minor adjustments to match the hatch (bait fish) you are trying to imitate. You should tie several of these flies for you salt and freshwater boxes. This is a big profile fly and catches big fish. As Summer is in full swing here and Trout fishing is slow. When I can, I fish the local saltwater fisheries for what is available seasonally. I will record a few more saltwater fly patterns before the end of the Summer and Fall sets in. Once Fall is here, I will start Trout fishing again and do some videos of my favorite Fall Trout flies.

Great fly, simple to tie and looks effective. Will give this patern a try here in the UK next season. Thank you.

It's pretty simple and effective. You can add lead wire around the hook shank and cover it with Krystal Flash if you want to fish it deep. A

that is a nice fly. the fly should work perfectly off the beach down here for snook. I also see peacock bass and other exotics would also destroy that fly as well. thx.

Thanks for the info. I fly fished for Snook in Fort Meyers back in 2000. I was able to catch a few decent fish back then on Clouser's Minnows. I bet a lot of Southern fish would smash the fish skull fly. It did very well offshore over the years for us. Adam

Hi, Sorry for the late reply. I have been in and out of the hospital with Leukemia since Mid October. I've been doing everything the doctors ask and following their regiment closely. Going in to February I will be spending another month in hospital trying to stomp this cancer out for Spring fishing.

I hope you get good results with the fish skull Buck tail fly. It has boated several fish for me over the years.

What makes this fly invert so that it rides hook point up? It appears to me that it would ride hook point down. So is the fish skull weighted to do that?

So the fish skull does add a little weight up front. Usually they swim inverted however they wobble a lot which gives it a more realistic look for an injured bait fish.
