How to Tie an ALBERTO KNOT! | "Knot Easy!" Series | Fishing Knot Tutorial

In this video, I will be demonstrating how to tie the ALBERTO KNOT, my most commonly used and trusted line to leader knot for tying braid to fluorocarbon and monofilament leaders. I use the Alberto knot exclusively for tying my braided main line to mono and fluoro leaders ≤ 25lb test. While the Alberto Knot does not have the thinnest knot profile, it makes up for it by being extremely strong and dependable. To this day, I have not had a single knot failure with the Alberto knot. If I do have a knot failure, my line to lure knot will always fail before the Alberto knot does.

    *** Extra Note - I use 7 wraps down, because I have found it to be the best number for producing a strong knot, while allowing the knot to cinch down properly. You can technically tie the knot with 8, 10, or 50 wraps, but it will become increasingly challenging to cinch the knot beyond 7 wraps. ALSO, if you accidentally miss a gap or make an extra wrap on the way back up, DON’T PANIC! The knot will still work just fine. Just do your best to crisscross your original wraps and cover the gaps to minimize the knot profile and maximize the braid-on-fluorocarbon contact. This will maximize the slip resistance. 🤙

    You’re welcome! It can be tough filling in those gaps with the thin light lines - if you can space out the wraps on the way down before you pinch, it helps create more space to better see and fill those gaps on the way back up to the loop. Hope this helps!

    I've had great success with this connection knot. I caught a 5lb bass and had to lug this fish up 20 feet off a bridge using 50lb braid to 17 lb floro and it didn't break. Couldn't believe it.

    I use the Alberto sometimes. It’s plenty strong and easy to tie but I find it sometimes catches on a guide when casting and my lure stops instantly and flies back. I still use the FG mostly because it doesn’t snag and is still pretty easy to tie.

    It certainly can catch guides with thicker leader or with smaller guides. I avoid in those situations. I had fully intended at one point to start exclusively using the FG knot, and while I was learning it, I was using the Alberto knot on the water. Once I gained confidence in my FG knot, I realized that I had still had zero knot failures with the Alberto knot, and it’s much quicker to tie. If the guides and line diameter allow, I like to go with the easy, dependable Alberto

    Did count wrong? I see 7 wraps forward and only 6 on the way back. I try to do 7 and 7 I'm I doing it wrong? Thanks.

    I probably counted the wrap at the very bottom twice. In any case, the number 7 isn’t super important here - I just found 7 wraps the best number for producing a strong, low profile knot and making sure that the knot can easily be cinched down. You could technically tie the knot with 10, 15, or 20 wraps down, but you’d have a hell of a time cinching it down! On your wraps back to the loop, don’t worry about counting. Try your best to crisscross your original wraps, with the braid alternating in the gaps. If you accidentally miss a gap or make an extra wrap, the knot will still work just fine! I should have mentioned that in the video. Hope this helps!

    @@dtffishingmiI’d agree with this. The number isn’t so important as long as all of the gaps are filled in. I’ve found even just 4 wraps each way works fine!

  • @dtffishingmi

    @dtffishingmi

    Ай бұрын

    @@cloaked2306 It sounds like it's not cinching properly. 60 lb fluoro is pretty stiff, so it's going to take some more force. First, try forming your wraps a little closer to the top of the fluorocarbon loop so that they have less distance to travel when you cinch. Also, try making your tag ends longer (using more line), and put some gloves on - wrap both lines around your hands 2-3 times (including your longer tag ends) when you're ready to cinch it down, and pull it slowly until it becomes tough to move, then pull it as hard as you can to finish the cinch. Let me know if this helps!

    Easier way to tie an Albright knot.

    The wrapping portion is different when comparing the Albright and Alberto, but overall very similar! The Alberto is stronger and about equally easy to tie, so I’m not sure I’ll ever make a tutorial for the Albright unless I encounter a situation where it offers an advantage over the Alberto
