Thank you for your easy to follow instructions. The white rope is easy to see against the black background, and you take your time,, speaking slowly and giving the student time to complete the step before moving on to the next.
Thanks for this. I have been needing rope halters for smaller sized horses, and I can now customize my halters for my small breed horses. Really helpful for me.
These videos were incredibly helpful! Thanks so much for taking the time to explain everything in detail. I always thought making my own rope halter would be difficult, but actually seeing how it's done makes it seem so much more simple! And now I can get a much better fit for my horse. And thanks for talking slowly, makes everything easier to understand! I'm going out to buy some rope right now!
This video is the best! I use it everytime I make a halter! Just make the measurements a tiny bit smaller and it will fit any horse!
Super videos and explained in a way that a 6 year old can make one thank you so much for this video.
Best description I've seen for this. I really appreciated the clear explanations and pauses to give us time to see.

GREAT instructional video. Thank you very much. It is obvious you took great pains to pace this for learners, rather than for experts. THANK YOU. The audio instructions are very clear. The video is very unobtrusive and transparent. THANK YOU!
A complicated process explained very well. Get so tired of people having to change what they're doing while in the middle of the process. This is clearly well thought out and smoothly presented. Thank you for your excellent efforts.
Thank you for your great instructions. The first halter I tried making took me hours. The second a few hours; the third about 40 min. I am so excited that I am making my own rope halters thanks to you! Here's the best part…My mare has a small head. I had to customize the measurements to fit her. Her halter fits just perfect! Again thanks to you, and your video. Appreciate your instructions and how your teaching was presented. Very good step by step instructions. And the video was clear visually as well.
Never realized it was so complicated but you explained it really well and I'm going to try making one myself. Thank you.
Wow, so glad i found this, it is by far the easiest to follow instructions .. thank you ..
Awesome. I got it first time and only took me about 30mins. Feeling proud of my effort!!!!!
Thank you got a great video. Nice and slow, easy to understand. Great Job!
Not an easy task but right to the point. I still need practice, but they look and work great. Thank you for sharing this with us.
wow thank you so much, this video is amazing, watching a lot of other videos they just make is so confusing and you get lost.. But yours i followed the whole way and you make it look soo easy, thankyou so much :)
Exceptional instruction video. Completed my first rope halter for my stud colt. Will perfect my technique and add to my Horsemanship Merit Badge class as an elective.
I made one 4.5 inches for my giant 1yr old dog, the halter helps alot and it doesn't bother her like the store bought one's did thank you.
This is a triumph of clarity. I just love this. I don't have a horse but you've given me names of knots I can look for, like the double overhand and water knots. For future knot-tying videos I would like to suggest putting a small dark-colored dot on the table in the middle of the frame or a bit of tape outside of each corner for the benefit of the person doing the demonstration.
Great job with the video! I've tried to learn it for so long and finally got it right! Just made my first rope halter with your help! :) Thanks a lot :)
Brilliant. Very well demonstrated. Well done. 10/10
Excellent, clear instructions!
The only problem I had was ending up too short on one end. I had to start out with the right end almost 2 feet longer than the left.

Thank you so much! It's easy to understand and very useful. Great job!
Great clarity of video and voice ! Was trying to learn this for the past 20 years and I find this now . Great, my halter is now ready ! Wish I could see how the end was done ....!!
The best instruction video I have ever seen - a true teacher, but why INCHES? No one outside USA uses inches anymore. Buying some soft rope tomorrow and looking forward to making my first halter.
Itwas hard but the result is amasing!! I love it ! ❤
My rope is in the mail. The inductions in my aspie brain. Cool!!! Awesome. I made one years ago from paper instructions, and because I'm a lefties , I got a right side tied halter lol.
Very good video. Well thought out and presented. For different sized halters, either measure right on the equines' face as the halter would properly lay, but when you tie the halter allow/add for an inch or so for slack. (have a helper jot down the measurements makes I it a lot easier!)... or take the measurements off a good fitting standard nylon halter. If you don't make the knots hard and fast, you can try it on and do a bit of adjusting for fit. Then finish it off.
For those struggling, PART OT THIS IS WRONG! at 8:40 when she starts doing the second "simple overhand knot"to make another double overhand knot for the noseband she screws up and that's why the knots on either side of the noseband never come out looking the same.
wow! thanx many others just fly by and dont take the time to explain like u do. very nice.
Thank you very much! First i used nylon rope but polyjester is better rope because it is softer and easier. Making a rope halter is in fact easier than i thought!
Just made one!!!! Amazing
If you follow these measurements the halter is pretty small it's ideal for an Arabian horse. But I love this video it explains everything slow and super well. Thames for creating it
I'am from Brazil. I loved your work.
Great video! Can't wait to try it!!
thanks for this two video, I made many rope halter with this videos.
P.S. If anyone else is considering making an instructional video, you can learn a lot by seeing how this one is done.
Awesome video, I actually feel like I could do this. :) Thanks!
Step by step girl..... I could't teach better ....thanks 😘
This is INCREDIBLY helpful! Definately want to try!!!!!! :)
It was hard but I've made it :) Thanks!

thank you for the simple to understand instructions. our 4H class clubs will be trying this out. do you have a video on finishing? or adding anything to the noseband?
Wow.....really nice.... Great work.... Thanks
Congratulations, very good video!
I will try it :) thank you very much
very well done,, I was thinking of using an old halter that already fits a horse, or pony as an alternative to measurements,
I got it I got it I got it!!! Thank you SO much!!
Hiya. Your fiador knot is still the easiest for me. Thank you!💕 Would you happen to have a picture of the knot from bottom? Pulling the two sets of Ropes apart? Hope it makes sense. Mine keep losening up/ slipping.
Right now I finished my 2° rope halter, and, REALY? That LOOKS so goooooooooood :D My horses look realy beautiful, better then the halter I bought, and now I can decide what color I wanna :D I do that what you say in the video, but it was too big, so I do the same but wiith 1 and 2 inch(? I do not know the correct word) shorter :D THANK YOUU :D
When you are done making the halter, what do you use to stick the tow ends together? Like that black stuff that they put at the end of the rope halters that you see in the store.
Muito bom seu trabalho parabéns
What measurements would you use for a miniature horse rope halter?
I bought some 600# 1/4” rope to try this. What kind of pound rating do I need for a useable halter?
how can i readjust this sizing for my clydesdale? xx large
My dressage trainer hates these "cowboy" halters. I have come to love them. They are very effective for a horse that likes to walk a ahead of me.... I would trailer in one. But I would used them for every other purpose to use a halter
1/4" is usually the best to start with:) good luck
I am wondering what size I should use for my 3 month old foal. Thanks
Can I ask what you do with the cord hanging off the end when you are done tying?
This is really good video
Does this fit all horses, or would there be different measurements for different horses?
Muito bom parabéns
How do you measure for the size of your horse so you don't have to do much adjusting? Like a list or diagram on where to measure over the nose, where to measure for the cheek, throat latch knot, loop knot, etc?
Thank you so much
@knotGirlz what size horse do these mesurments fit?
i wanna make this for my Foal. shes a pony and curently a weanling how much rope would i need ? and what other measurments will change ?
Do you have a chart that gives you ideas on how you size a rope halter when making one? I have an arab... which is the reason I'm thinking about tying one myself.
Congratulations you made it past the hardest parts 😂👏
I want to ADD two knots between the left and right side knots for the pressure points over the horses nose. If you understand what i'm talking about can you help me with this???
We have one. Lead ropes are class one double braid eye splice and end splice. We didn't make it specific for lead ropes so we can use it in the marine industry too, however that is the video you'd watch. Good LUck!!
very nice I uitgelecht nap totally how long should it be? rope grt
Thanks!
Loved it I am going to have a go as Madonna does lose a few if I don't take them off....Shanks
what for rope use you and how long is it? PLEASE ANSWER ! good movie Sorry for my bad English i'm Dutch
Can you give measurements for different size halters please. We have babies to Percherons so all sizes are different, thanks. Great information and directions, thanks
what kind of rope do you use and where do you purchase it?
Say I was going to make on for a 5 to 7 month old foal, how much feet of rope would I need for that?
With stiffer/firmer rope, how do you tighten the various knots in the halter (especially the fiador knot)?

Shandon I just did I loop knot. I went to adjust a rope halter and one knot was beyond recognishion so I took it apart and made this one. It was super stuff to but it looks good
Best video I am Indian
For minnies is there a specific spot to measure to so I can adjust the size accordingly?
@emk6334

I just googled this same thing. Google images brings up where to measure from. 6.5" and 7" was recommended for minis. I'm wanting to make one for my calf.
More awesome...
Great Video. But what size of Rope do you suggest we start with?
@melaniewillard4007

1/4 inch soft yacht rope.
Thanks.
what size is it? is it pony, cob or full?
Great video! but i was wondering what size the rope halter would be, if you use the measurements you use in this video? :)
@rebeccahalbleib5148

It's probably meant for a average sized horse
is this called a 2 or 4 knot halter?
When she says use the rope nearest to you it would be more useful to know if it is the longer or shorter one

Yes, this would be extremely helpful.
Вам большое спасибо видео очень подробное ,просто жаль язык не понимаю.
Trying to make one for an itty bitty mini who is hard to find halters for since even most mini stuff is too big...pretty sure I made it too big lol 4" nose band looks alright but I think 6" cheek pieces will be too long
What type of rope is that??
in what mesure have you done? cm?
@Elizabac

inches
you can buy thin sail line on ebay which is really soft and easy to tie (and cheap!) and it comes in every colour you can think of
Hey, here's an idea, not to be mean but what about measuring BEFORE you tie the knot!
I am using a nylon rope. It has a white cord down the middle of it.
