Hi Jon. What I'm learning most from you is that you aren't stuck on perfection. I've been approaching pottery like a machinist working on a lathe or something...while you're over here cranking out art. Thanks for playing fast and loose and showing beautiful results! You've got your hands full perhaps no time to mess around. You're awesome.

Thank you for continuing the art of pottery in younger generations. I graduated over 10 years ago and our art teacher who taught pottery decided to leave and they never found a replacement to this day, so back when I was in school I never had the chance to learn. Thank you for being an awesome teacher!

Hey John, great video! I was thinking about what your friend said to make the spirals the other way for right-handers. What you could do is reverse the direction on your wheel and do it left - handed. Might be easier to control the shape than trying to spiral going from the top down.

We live in a condo with an HOA 😑. I started a ceramics class thanks to Jon and although I currently can't throw for beans, I'm super excited to learn! Here in Cali there really isn't second hand equipment either due to the popularity of the hobby and the fact that the equipment is very long lasting. Good luck all budding potters! Yeah, I keep mine on bats as well. The trick to moving them batless, is picking them up, directly from the bottom. I've seen plenty off potters move them without a bat, and the wares warp in the move, only to go back to true once set down.

Bats are plastic disks you can attach to your wheel via “bat pins”. That’s what the holes in the wheel head are for. They make it so you can cut you piece and lift off wheel without having to touch the raw clay at all.
