The hook that Tate threw first is called “Turning it over”. That’s a correct hook, the inside hook. When we heard Manny Stewart, Herman Carter, Angelo Dundee, The Duvas screaming to “Turn it over, Kid!” Or to shorten that up! That’s what that meant. That hook is physics. That hook brings your whole body with it and it’ll turn out the lights! The 2nd hook is the wide hook. Tommy Morrison, Boom Boom Mancini, and the great banger Pepino Cuevas specialized in those. Good job, Andrew.

A left hook is definitely an amazing answer to another left hook but honestly in my opinion a right straight is just the best punch to respond with because it’s always going to reach first on the inside and can allow you to keep you head away from the hook via using your shoulder as cover

You can throw a long hooks with your thumb down as well. I do that at long range to throw people off if they're getting used to my jab and cross. All that matters is that your pointer and middle finger knuckles land and your wrist is stable enough so that it isn't injured on impact.

I have seen a number of great KO's this way in MMA but personally I think the shoulder is injured easier with this method.

He capping the number 1 counter to a looping punch is a straight punch, the straight punch will always land first

There is not a set rule. For example there is another scool of thought taht says you counter a hook with an opposite arm uppercut. Because while you throw the upper cut your shoulder is naturally going to protect yoir chin and you are going to get him on the exposed part of his face with the uopercut (ex. Right hook- left uppercut

Considering you have the time to throw it. Perfect scenarios don't account for bad reflexes. Taking that hit and using it to load your return hook can actually help in a street fight. It's faster to block your right and return momentum than it is to calculate a counter jab if you don't have any skill in offensive countering

Not really. Sometimes people fold under pressure even in sparring they will sometimes try to win by all means. Sometimes peoples ego gets the best of them and they lose control and see red then bodies hit the floor and u aint bullet proof

I’m far from calling myself a pro, but I’ve been doing kickboxing for over 10 years now. This type of counter is called a “catch and counter”. This means that you saw through your opponents combination. It allows for a perfectly timed counter. The catch here is that a good boxer, won’t give an opportunity to let his combinations get countered, either by good distancing or (head)movement.

Alot of European fighters throw the fist up method of hook and some American fighters throw it palms down. The palms down method seems to be a bit faster for some reason especially when throwing a quick in Close counters shots

I mean this isn't bad advice but people overestimate how good this guy is. You see his record with like 76 wins and think he's good but Henry cejudo exposed him for padding his record ( being experienced and fighting people with less than 5 fights to make yourself look better) and Gabriel Varga has exposed his claim of "world champion" aswell. Yes he has belts yes he has a good record but the belts aren't in prestigious promotions and his record is padded heavily

Kickboxing/muay thai, imo If you're on the ground ina street fight you could be in serious trouble, you are better off staying on your feet as in worst case scenario and you are getting jumped, a double leg is gonna do fuck all to his other buddies that are about to stomp your head into the pavement
