    I’ve never heard Calvin Robinson mince words, sugarcoat, or dissemble. Yet I have never seen him intentionally insult anyone or lose his temper. Maybe he has; but overall he seems to be an excellent role model for controversial discussions.

    No. “My Kingdom is not of this world.” “You are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.” Our Lord did not pray that we would be taken from the world, but that the father would keep us from the evil. “They seek a better country, that is, a heavenly.”

    I see God's name everywere; shining in the sky, singing in the winds, thundering in the seas, and in all His creation! And I listen to His voice in my conscience, letting me know what is right and wrong! I just cannot understand those who don't feel Him! And I am grateful that He has allowed me to know Him. For those who don't feel Him I would advise them to go to a church when it is empty or just with a few people & sit there quietly for some time.

    If someone goes to an apostate or heretical church truly believing that they will receive, know, or feel God, would it actually happen to them?Church is not the answer, Christ is.One can very well lead someone to be pharaisical while the other would lead to life everlasting and liberty.

    #22:11 I have worked in higher education and for massive corporations. I have seen some truly frightening changes over 30 years. The argument about, "Well, I gotta feed my kids," or "I will make a difference once I'm promoted high enough to do so," is 100% what I've heard so many times. People who exchange their faith and values for comfort and convenience, in my opinion, don't actually value what they claim. I couldn't tell you have many so- called Christians have said this or loud then commit dastardly sins to get ahead at work. Full disclosure, I'VE said similar things for a time. Then, I woke up. I'm working from home now because nobody wants to hire a noncompliant person to modern values. I'm struggling financially but I'm feeling less conflicted everyday. Great conversation.

These are the three main ways the Devil will lie and deceive. He tells Lies that are factually incorrect, he will omit some truth or he will exaggerate something. Crafty Serpent.

    We are literally forgetting how to FORGET. When the internet is constantly there at the tip of your finger to do all your remembering (thinking) for you, you not only need no longer to remember, you even forget what it means to forget. No more, "What was that actor's name again--you know, the one who was always John Wayne's sidekick? Argh, I'm racking my mind but just can't dredge it up." The energy we'd once have invested even in the recognition of FORGETTING, and its accompanying, constructive attempt at recollection, is, all of it, entirely, displaced, canceled, by the immediate instinct to "google." Our memory, our recollecting, our sometime struggle with forgetting, are reduced to a very nearly involuntary twitch of the index finger. The index finger is the pathway to our new brain, and that brain is stored in a piece of technology that is NOT US. Which reduces "us" to an appendage of the machine.

    The reason for the high rates of divorce is that we are too immature to marry, while being totally unaware of our immaturity. We often try to find a person to fulfil our needs, only to dump them when they fail to meet our expectations. Having said that, divorce must remain readily available to people, since nobody should be trapped in an abusive relationship. Sometimes there are no perfect solutions; only the choice between the lesser of two evils. The one thing we need to bear in mind is that in order to love our neighbours as ourselves, we cannot treat people as objects, but must create an I-Thou relationship them; which is not possible if we fail to see the spirit of God in them.

    I love that Fr Calvin always brings the conversation back to Christ every time the host tries to stir it away into secularism. No offense to the host, but it seems while he respects the faith, he does not deem it as necessary, and that is where his mistake is. The Lord tell us in the Gospel: "seek first the kingdom of heaven, and everything else will be added to you".

    you can build statues of Apollo without worshipping them, but being divorced from the original purpose means you’re using it for a different purpose - in this example, as an allegory for reason and an embodiment of beauty: that means you get a different result from the statue than did the Romans, which is as a belief that they’d appeased the force of reason himself if you divorce objects or ideas from their intended functions, you will inevitably get different results: the Neoliberal West tries to incorporate Christian morals into a secular framework and calls it a universal humanism, and see how well that’s going

  • @nevbarnes1034

    @nevbarnes1034

    3 ай бұрын

    @@qqwipz6866 Yes, you get new results, but are they necessarily worse? It’s way better to appreciate Apollo aesthetically than to worship him. Ending the stigmatisation of gays and rejecting the blood libel against the Jews are both new ideas that I would argue are superior to Biblical ideas. It took eighteen centuries for Christians to formulate an objection to slavery-another new, non-Biblical idea. Meanwhile-one of the best ideas ever, one that has massively improved life for billions of people-the scientific method is wholly absent from Biblical Christianity. I acknowledge the centrality of Christian ideas to the success of the West. However, the failure of Christianity to persuade us in the modern era is not our fault. The apologetics are simply not in place. I would argue we _have no choice_ but to seek either powerful new ideas that solve societal problems, or find powerful new justifications for the old ideas.

    If you are living by Christian ideals, how are you not Christian? Why chafe against that? Why is there a need today to rebrand it as something else? Isn't it painfully obvious that our abandonment of Christian values has led to the decline we find ourselves in? And to be replaced by what? Anything and everything apparently. This is not sustainable.

    I haven't watched Calvin's debate at Oxford, but I suppose if I'd been in his shoes--well, I suppose two things, actually: first, I suppose I'd never have managed the quality of argument Calvin did, but I also suppose I'd have started (and perhaps ended) with "Who cares what this House thinks on this? This House is not the Church. The Church is not an organ of this House. This House might just as well assert that it believes Jews should eat pork, or Quakers should bear arms, or Moslems should pray facing Copenhagen, not Mecca. For that matter, the Vatican might just as well issue an edict that this House put in new, mauve carpeting and paint its ceiling aquamarine. It's all of the same fabric. Christianity is neither a creation nor the property of this House and it is not in the remotest sense obliged to cater to this House's preferences. Who is this House, after all?"

    Three children is actually not so much, if you want to have sex than you should also be open for the possibility of a child, that's part of the Christian marriage. A lot of modernists don't like this put it's part of the deal.
