I only recently discovered Mahyar and so glad that I did. On the many issues besetting us right now in the West it''s often that our good intentions and softness of heart are used against us. That includes illegal immigrants, or leaving doors open for children to be mutilated because we've seen the real distress that those actually going through gender dysphoria endure (as opposed to coercion into a mindset, or it being "fashionable"), etc. Decent people don't always expect other to be cruel and self-serving, psychopaths, so disregardful of others. A lot of people are waking up.

I’ve been a subscriber of Tousi for years, and appreciate his content, but his assertion that English monarchs ruled by a handshake is wild. “Divine Right”, as claimed by warlords is not an egalitarian system. Even the Magna Carta didn’t extend it’s privileges to the peasantry, and was a concession to the aristocracy by the crown. I’m not sure where he obtained this belief (not supported by evidence), but he shouldn’t buy into it wholesale.

Back when I thought I was a "socialist" in the late 1970's, I ended up in the back of a police van with 2 white skinheads from the political polar opposite, after a football match clash. Naturally, during the 4 hours we were together, we got to talking, and it was then that I realised that what I had been conditioned to believe was, realistically, fascism; my absolute belief that anyone who thought, believed, and judged matters differently to the way I and my comrades did was intellectually and morally subhuman, made ME the nazi. Fortunately, Ive always been able to put my hand up when Ive got it wrong, and was still young enough to get off the merry go round. It didnt actually happen on that very day, but that was when I began to clear my head and get a grip. I thank God every day that I got nicked that day at Everton v Millwall, that I can read, and that I can tell the true from the sham.

Interesting. Not heard of that before but it's certainly sounds similar to ideas I've read about and pondered for a long time, how different forms of government face off against each other in peace or war. I suppose the international version rather than an internal issue which what you mention seems to be about. Hitler noted, and Walter Bedell Smith also later lamented that totalitarianism ultimately wins to an extent whatever happens. Either by winning in the normal sense, or winning by forcing the more tolerant regimes to become more totalitarian in order to compete. I guess there's a sweet spot. Being as tolerant as possible without risking the environment that allows for tolerance in the first place.

@@jimb9063 Tolerance should be practiced, but a society must learn that there are those who will not conform to a tolerant society and so try to modify it to fit their ideology. Take Islam for example, it is completely intolerant of being criticized in any way making their belief system incompatible with the West. Islam must either change to conform or be expelled from our society if we are to survive with the freedoms we enjoy now. Church and state must remain separate and we must be allowed the freedom to criticize them when they are wrong.
