How to Thread a Vintage Kenmore Sewing Machine FAST!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I had some comments on how fast I thread my machines so I thought I would do a detailed video on how I do this. I hope this gives you hints on how you can do this with your Kenmore. I'm demonstrating this on my 158.1802, but it is almost the same process on any Kenmore.

I can’t explain enough how grateful I am to you for making this video. My grandmother passed in 2022 and the only material item I insisted I wanted of hers was her vintage sewing machine. We had bought her a handful of “new”, techy ones over the years, even an embroidery one, but those always stayed in the box. The Sears Kenmore vintage machine she learned on was what she used to make all of our Christmas stockings, including my infant sons the year she passed. She used it to make all of my Christmas play costumes, all of my special outfits over the years, as well as my sisters and the rest of our family. I have finally gotten the courage to try to use it myself, still with the red thread she had threaded herself two years ago. Unfortunately almost as soon as I started, the thread broke, and I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to get it back on. I felt so lost because she was the only one in our entire family who knew this machine like the back of her hand. Thank you for being here and helping me. I know I’m just a random KZread comment, but this is one of my favorite videos of all time now just for the connection I felt with my grandma ❤ thank you

I'll say it again: You put a lot of care and skill into editing, and it makes the videos so clear. Close up, clear views, with inserted stills and closeups, with speeding-up and/or just omitting the long or unnecessary parts . . . all that does not just happen, but takes a lot of thought and effort. Just very expertly done. Plus: the same is true of the content! Thank you.

another reliable informative video. as I viewed of course my thought was; will he do a video on changing the take up lever? then i ran to my kenmores, took a look at 'em and had second thought; not. not easy, not quick and not necessary but I'm glad you pointed it out!

Hi Stevie! Thank you for your great informative videos. Do you have anything on a Vintage Kenmore 158.504 machine. This machine belonged to my Aunt and I am looking to restore it. Pretty old machine and hasn’t been used in decades. Thanks.

Not specifically for the model as I dont own one. But to watch oiling the Kenmore 148 video I got. Its not exactly the same but you can use the same concepts oiling yours.

Hello. I notice you're a big Kenmore fan (for good reason -- great machines). Of all the models you've serviced/used/etc. which is your favorite? Also, I notice a Singer 9900 in the background. I managed to find one recently. Interesting machine!

Dunno if I have a Favorite or not. The one that gets used the most would be the 1802 and the 1760, But I do have a small army of them and they all do get used im to lazy to constantly setup machines for stitches on projects its simpler to have an army of them and just setem up as you go til the project is finished. The singer 9900 is interesting and I really only use it to patch jeans since it sews sideways.

@@SewSaveMe Thanks for your reply. Yes, setting up machines ready to complete various tasks (buttonholes, etc.) makes sense. I have three 1802s, great model -- very powerful. Thanks again, love your channel.

Do you have a video demonstrating how to deal with the "race cartridge" in a kenmore? Or the bobbin cartridge?

I'm trying to thread a 1981(?) Kenmore 17891 and am stroking out. Do I HAVE to use the "bobbin" in the bottom, or can I use the thread thing on the top? I'm very very new to this if you can't tell. I inherited my mom's sewing machine from 1981.

Yes you need a bobbin. All machines that use a lock stitch needs two threads.

How difficult is it to replace the take up arm? I have a Kenmore and the take up arm has broken off. My solution was to glue a grommet to the arm. It works but I would like to replace it. Thanks Steve

It was a royal pain. only reason why I did this one because I constantly change colors. It has save more time then it took to change out but it took some effort.

I found another kenmore at goodwill for $8.00. Problem is I can't bring myself to part out a working machine, even at $8.00. Guess Ill stick with my rigged up repair job.
