I’m so grateful for this! I can count on two hands the number of salons I’ve tried out where they’ve said, “Wow, your hair is soooo thick!”- if it sounds more like an exclamation of shock to than just a compliment, it’s a red flag. “Can you thin it out at the ends so I don’t have triangle hair,” I’ll ask at the beginning. It’s taken as a grain of salt. At the end of the appointment, they style it so that the bulk is hidden. But then later when I wash/dry my hair- ding dong baby, my head looks like a bell. I’d like not to spend 45-60 minutes styling every day just to disguise the weight (plus who has the time?) so I always touch up at home with my thinning shears (looks okay at first- until it grows out). I’m excited to try this out.

I get the same comments. I’ve even had them charge me extra for the amt of hair I have. Or tell me, “next time you call to make an appt, tell them you have a lot of hair so they block off double amt of time.”

OMG, this is exactly the sort of TLC I need. I've had nothing but a string of disasters from cheaper to high end stylists. I can only recall 2-3 cuts in my entire life that were great, and I think it has a lot to do with the thickness of my hair - some people are too shy and barely trim or shape it, others far too liberal and hack at it, leaving me with uneven, thick, shabby disasters.

I think this is exactly what I need. I’ve got thick coarse wavy hair and I hate having it layered because it’s only about shoulder length. My ends are impossible even with a fresh trim and the layers are visible because of my fuzzy ends. Sometimes I feel like the layers look like shelves.

I don’t think one can do this to their own hair. Have to save the video and show it to your stylist. Plus I have to have my hair cut dry after I blow dry it straighter. It is very curly and wavy.
I have extremely thick hair, and I always say that I will walk out of the next hairdressers who tells me" you have very thick hair"! I'm 67 and have lived with it all my life and have never had any issues as long as it doesn't get cut too short. I wish all hairdressers could see this video!!!

I think clients with very thick density just want to have some movement and not end up with a puffy pyramid shape. I much prefer cutting very dense hair, vs low density or super fine hair. I use THIS method all the time and I have clients who tell me, "You're the only one who knows how to cut my hair." I found that hard to believe, yet, now I see people on these threads saying it, too. his cuts and education videos are great. I've picked up so many tips I can use.
Amazing. THIS is exactly what's missing from the bob haircut I received and is the difference between a sophisticated bob versus a basic one!
The only thinning technique I’ve tried that feels comfortable to do on my own hair. Thanks so much!

Thank you so so much for a very clear and detailed explanation❣ It did wonders on my thick hair🥰
Thank you, oh thank you so much for showing us this! There I was scouring the entire KZread and not a single person showed a proper technique for reducing volume of the hair. I am now fairly confident to attempt this on my little girl’s home hair cut, thanks to you.
I’ve got the puffy triangle from hell that I can’t do anything with and it’s barely long enough to tie back. My kids are calling me Karen 😱I’m in Devon so as much as I’d like to come to Brighton for a cut it’s a little out of my way! Can you recommend a stylist in this neck of the woods that could do for my mop what you’ve done is this video? Thanks

I don't understand why most hair dressers do not know how to thin out course thick hair without layering or using shears which really doesn't do much. Don't know what they learn in hairdressing courses. I'm not a hairdresser yet I know this is the way to do it even before i saw your video. I'm taking this video with me next time i go to a hair dresser.

Unfortunately, every hairdresser I go to is unable or scared or idk what to thin out my hair so they just straighten it until it's dead, then I go home, wash it and I look like a mop. Thanks for this video. I straightened my hair so I am able to cut (it curls immediately when it's wet) it and thinned out the lower layers, now the weight around my neck is gone.
James I've watched this video twice now. I can't wait to give it a go. Do you think this would also work on curly thick hair or can you suggest some other cutting/thinning technique. Thanks for all your videos!
@TheLifeOfHair
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Julie wonderful stuff yes this is a great technique on my absolute faves for removing density in bulk in long and short hair it does work very well on curly hair you just have to be a little bit more careful about how you go about it you need to make sure the hair isn’t a good tension there are no loose curls because you will cut my hair off very short if you allow her to sit naturally so you need to calm her down and attention and cut down the Hair client I would recommend leaving probably 1 1/2 cm spacings in between each of the sections that you cut to allow for a little more a little less weight to be removed
Thank you so much 🙏🏼💕

I had a hairdresser in my home town that did channel cutting. It was the only thing that ever worked on my (very, very thick) hair. Now that I’ve moved to different cities and have scoured the world for someone who does this. No one, cheap or expensive, seems to understand the need to do this to thick hair.
I use channel cutting on my male clients that have thick hair. It gives the look of texture beautifully.

Very good
Hi! Do you have any recommendations for salons that use this technique in NE London? In the US I usually have success in Latinx salons, but I'm a bit lost here. This is the technique I'm used to (or very similar types) and it's the only thing that makes my hair manageable.
thank you again for this video; how can I get my fresh speaking hairdresser to do this technique on my hair? as I have thick coarse hair, I'm always given layered haircuts, but now I have a bob with short hair on top and longer hair under, and I don't think I really like it My head always ends up looking like the shape of a triangle when it grows out... the result is lovely.

lovely result! wondering if this technique would work for a pixie on really thick hair?
@TheLifeOfHair
2 жыл бұрын
Wonderful yes this technique works on all lengths of her just follow the same principles of this particular video
Is this cutting technique possible to do with the hair dry and flat ironed first, instead of having the hair wet?
do you recommend this technique on thick curly hair?
This is different to layering right? Because I've got quite a thick hair and whenever I want to get rid of some weight on the salon the only option they offer me is to have layers and I hate the look of it when they grow out sometimes causing fly aways which I Hate.
@TheLifeOfHair
4 жыл бұрын
Yes this is different layers it doesn’t create that flicky fly away look at layers do as you describe😁👍🏻
a very detailed drying video only would be possible I am doing school and would like to learn well how to dry bob
It does indeed look very very scary. (I use Rusk texture shears and cutting techniques for bulk removal. Just makes me more comfortable🤗)
I usually thin with a razor but will try this nxt time
@TheLifeOfHair
4 жыл бұрын
Yeah definitely give it a go it’s similar to raise a cutting but you can get a little bit closer to the scalp and you can with a razor I find 😁👍🏻
Would it work for a pixie bob? I am afraid if the hair is to short it might stick out.
This is exactly what I need trying to find someone like this in Bristol is impossible
I cut a bob on my self yesterday and it turned out perfect, only thing is that it looks heavy on the ends. I need to thin it out
Would you only do this with wet or dry hair?
Hi James, would this work if the client wants to put their hair up asswell as down? Thanks Jackie.
@TheLifeOfHair

Can i do this technique on longer hair?

@TheLifeOfHair
3 жыл бұрын
I will do another episode on this particular haircut very soon so keep your eyes peeled for that I’m going to try and do a straight version
I love the principle behind the technique. People are terrified of most thinning techniques. I'm growing my pixie out and cos hair is thick, I follow what the hairdesser was doing before lockdown. She was quite simply removing chu n ks with texturising scissors - and this made my growing haystack of hair lie more lovingly around my head. I think I may have overdone it slightly now, but not sure what to leave and what to attack as I head from short pixie to a very short bob (my current status). Any videos for this type of thing, growing hair down in a pretty way? X
@TheLifeOfHair
4 жыл бұрын
Yes I can imagine your scenario quite clearly a very common one in fact going out to pick it can be very very difficult, I will try and come and drop some sort of video for growing out her shapes but I would imagine it won’t be massively do similar to this video that you’ve just watched in the sense that this technique really does help the hair slim down as it grows out overdoing it is the worst thing that you can do in a lot of ways unfortunately because instead of slimming the hair down it creates lots of shorthairs that then make the hair look bigger rather than slimmer 👍🏻
@Ladynipchick2
4 жыл бұрын
@@TheLifeOfHair Well, just applied this slicing technique to the bulging effect on my growing out fringe - which can look like ears, lol, if you can imagine that! Anyway, brilliant. Looks much better than it did when i tried to reduce bulk with my texturising shears. Sitting very nicely now. Thanks.
Did he use thinning shears or regular?
Do we do same with wavy hair ?
Can you still braid after you thin it out this much?
I like this cut, but she only has about 1/3 as much hair as I do! I would like to go back to a bob. On top of having about 5 times most people's hair, I have wavy texture underneath and straight on top of that. What should I tell a stylist? I'd like to be able to have waves on some days and straight others. I have gone so far as to have the back cut pixie style underneath my hair. I always get it thinned out. I'm not exaggerating. I also like pushing my hair away from my face for styling, rather than hanging down each side. I prefer some wispy bangs, because my forehead I'd high and straight thick bangs look too severe. Love some recommendations. Thanks.
I have coarse hair - maybe the texture is the reason I had issues with frizz?
is this allowed for curly and has a thick hair???
Now I know why my hair is frizzy when braided. I have to tell the hairdresser not to thin my hair all the time. It does not grow out seamlessly. Have had to go down to a pixie to grow out again because eventually it is a frizz fest. Slithering is the term I know this technique as. It was great for awhile.
How do you thin out short hair my hair is very thick and everyone just wants to shorten it is hard to find some who knows how to thin it out or as they now say texture
I have all my clients addicted to bulk removal ✂️ lol New subbie here ✂️✂️✂️
@TheLifeOfHair
4 жыл бұрын
Yes there’s a few of mine who are addicted to it as well, thanks for the sub👍🏻
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Ok but....(I have same question for people who use thinking scissors very close to the root) It’s been texturised from pretty much the top. And it always looks good straight after and even few weeks after. But how is it going to look after few months, when hair start growing and getting tad longer? It will start sticking out? Because would be impossible to texture exact sections next time 🤔
@TheLifeOfHair
3 жыл бұрын
I totally appreciate what you’re saying they’re this can be problematic if the channels of hair that you are removing are too chunky the channels simply want to be super fine maybe one or two hairs in wits as you go down the head that is why we are travelling with the grain in terms of it growing out very much grows out like your natural hair might if you’re going through the natural growth process Allergen, Telogen, Calligan. I’ve been doing this technique for many many years and never had any serious problems with it you just have to be super diligent about travelling with the hair straight down the natural fall
Can I use this technique on straight hair instead of the curly one showed in the video since my hair is naturally straight a lil bit wavy at the bottom due to the bulk. also, will this reduce my hair volume permanantly as im growing it out since the hairs which are already been cut won't be as the same length as the others!?
@TheLifeOfHair
2 жыл бұрын
Yes you can absolutely use this technique and straight hair in fact it probably works its best or straight hair
