Shaving with a straight is the best. Unless you have a very heavy beard, you don't need to do it every day. Mine is moderately heavy, and I used to do it every other day or so. Yes, it takes a bit more time, but not unreasonable, and the results are totally worth it.

The straight-edge razor is actually the traditional razor, not the safety razor or cartridge razor, due to the fact that the straight-edge razor was used by men for centuries before the safety razor was invented. But the safety razor shaves the same as a straight-edge razor, and, it shaves better than cartridge razors do today.

He's using a shavette because most states require a new blade every time.

Traditional razors are straights and safeties, then you have electrics and finally junk in the form of multiblades.
