How To Test a Fuel Level Sensor Without Removing Fuel Pump

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Here is how to test a fuel level sensor while it is still in the vehicle. The same test can also be done if the fuel pump is removed. A bad fuel level sensor will cause the fuel gauge to not work or give codes such as "P0463 Code: Fuel Level Sensor Circuit High Input."
The fuel level sensor can be tested using a multimeter and checking for resistance. If the circuit is open, it is bad. The resistance should also change when the float moves.
To do this, while the sensor is in the vehicle, rock the whole car or truck side to side to make the sensor float move. Also, gas can be added, and the resistance is watched to see if there is a change.
If you have a helper to add gas while watching the meter, the resistance should slowly change; if there is no helper, a phone can be used to record video when adding gas.

Mitsubishi mirage 2017 , Fuel Temperature Sensor is going bad, and felt in the dark about what mechanics were telling me. To change this sensor you have to replace the whole fuel pump? Going to do some testing as in the video, maybe a lose wire idk. To change a sensor the entire pump has to be be replaced?

Why didnt you test it on the new pump right there?

I have a 2010 Ford Escape with a fuel gauge that always reads below empty. It started as an intermittent problem but now it's stuck there all the time. And it's throwing code P0463. The fuel pump is working fine and the car drives fine, but the gauge doesn't move regardless of how much gas is in it. I have replaced the fuel level sending arm with a genuine Ford replacement part, but the gauge still doesn't work. How do I troubleshoot the wiring from the fuel pump connection back to the gauge on the dash? Thank you.

There should be voltage going into the sensor and a lower voltage coming out. Wiring can be hard to troubleshoot, but no voltage going to the sensor is a common problem. I would get a schematic for your Ford to know which wire is sending voltage to the sensor and be sure it is correct.

@@HVAC_Mechanic Thank you I will do that, but didn't know where I could get a wiring schematic. Do you have a source you can recommend? Thank you for your response, I greatly appreciate it.
