Are there fake COSTAS with the 580 etching? I got a pair of ARANSAS with the etching, I thought it was a good deal but when I put them on they just seemed a little flat in colors. Not sure if the Gray mirror is just that dark. Do you know if the hinge on the ARANSAS flex backwards. I thought they were supposed to, but these don't.

After days of browsing, I went with the Fantail 580g with green lens. I can’t wait to get them. This will be my first pair of Costa’s. Hope they live up to the hype. Y’all’s videos were great in helping me choose mine. Thanks for all the great info!

They’re junk...not what they used to be. Costa doesn’t stand by their product either...basically no warranty

Do realtree Xtra fantail 580p come with a camo case or a black case? The ones I purchased have the black case but I've seen both online so wondering if they're real. Thank you for any help!

hi how do i know what tint of reefton's I have? the inside says CE 17 V2 on the right arm the left arm says Reefton RFT 66. Also they say 580 so I assume they are glass? thx

Hey, thanks for commenting! The 580 does indicate the lenses are Costa's glass lenses. The RFT 66 refers to the Matte Retro Tortoise Reefton. bought a pair of Brines a few years back. 580G copper lenses are fantastic. the frames are quite worn now so ive just recently gotten a pair of Rafaels with the Copper Silver Mirror lenses. they feel identical to the Copper lenses but with an added Mirror coating. im starting to like these more, as they have more glass and a frame that covers the sides of my head better. plus bigger vents on the frames. love my Costas.

I had the rafael blackouts 580g and they were by far the best pair of glasses I've ever owned. Actually just lost them the other day. Will be buying the exact ones but I'm gonna make sure I have some croakies that will keep them from sinking

i just ordered a pair of ebay some fan tail and on the right lens it says 580p like it supposed to have but on in the right inside it says fantail made in italy

Do Costa Reeftons have screws on top of frame for the hinges? I have seen ones with and without screws that seem to have all of the correct model information on the inside of the arms and has the 580p present on the lens. Thanks

HI! The Reefton & Reefton Pro both use screws at the bottom of the each hinge (facing down).

Hey! Just watched an I ordered some new reeftons to replace a pair I lost. I’m skeptical of these for some reason. If they’re fake, they’re really good fakes. I noticed my other pairs all day patent pending on the inside, these do not. The lenses appear to be etched, but it almost looks a bit raised to me. Are there any other indicators? The left inside arm reads “06S9007 900711 RFT 64 “square symbol” 15 115” seems strange…

Can I purchase them on Internet? What is the Authentic site. I loved my last pair.

You most likely have the 400 lenses as that's what was first created, and they are NOT etched. If I recall all 580 should be etched as that's how they made the distinction between the 2(when they were selling both). They've since discontinued the 400 series so all lenses should now be etched.

So what if I have a pair of Fantails that have the 580p on the right upper part of the lens but it almost looks see through?

If the frame has the 580P then it's more than likely you have authentic Costa sunglasses. You may have the Costa grey or copper lenses with no mirror that will look see-through.

What is global and Omni fit? Also do Authentic Costa have the engraved Costa on the inside arm by patent number? Almost like block letters saying Costa?

Hey, ufcguru! Costa's Global or Omnifit technology modifies the sunglasses to fit higher cheekbones, longer eyelashes, and flatter nose and cheek facial structures. Costa OmniFit sunglasses will have a thicker nose pad area that allows more hydrolite. The build of these glasses is wider across the face, with shorter temples, which will work to raise the glasses further off your face. Thanks for the video! I recently purchased a pair of Costa Cocos and the right arm says “CE 17 V2”. I’ve looked at every possible picture in existence on the internet but I can’t find one that has these specific codes. I understand things change from time to time but is there any way you can verify that these are legitimate? Everything else seems to be on point.

Im super observant, I notice every detail about everything I buy lol... Hey Carolina! We are sorry for the delayed response. Costa does not make the 400 lenses anymore, but to answer your question 400 lenses only came in polycarbonate and not glass. The etching is for the 580 lenses.

SportRx this is not true. I have some older 400 glass lenses.

I saw what I thought were legit Costa's at a thrift shop for four dollars. I didn't buy them because there was no text on the inside of the earpieces. Text such as model, CE etc. I wasn't aware of the etching. I hope I didn't pass up a really nice pair of sunglasses. I was looking good in them too haha!

We can confirm that the "Costa" etched lens, rather than the "580", is in fact an authentic Costa product, and the lenses are the 580 lens technology. This version was a part of a small batch which were to be sold exclusively overseas, and they have now made their way to the US. As always, these lenses will come with the standard limited lifetime warranty, when applicable, just as any other Costa eyewear.

Do you have any experience or knowledge of whether Amazon sold costas are real? Some appear to be slightly or somewhat cheaper but I dont know if they are real.

Some of the people who use Amazon to sell are actually selling fakes, there is a disgruntled buyer who has loaded a video about this on youtube, they were $100 cheaper than the normal price

Hey Captain Kirk! I reached out to our friends at Costa and they lets us know that back in the earlier days they use to etch “Costa” in the right lens. This stopped around late 2017 early 2018, but we can confirm you have authentic Costa sunglasses.

Hey Colton! We apologize for the delayed response. How old would you say the sunglasses are? If you take the sunglasses to a local optometrist they should be able to find the part that is squeaking and tighten the screw to stop the noise.

I looked up this video just for this reason. I purchased a pair of costa hammerhead and they have "580" etched. Aren't they supposed to have "580G" etched on the lense if they are real costas'? Thanks for sharing that info with us Odco! We have had a few customers come into the store with the same lenses you had but they were bought off eBay. We knew they were fake because the lens tint was clearly off from the Costa sunglasses in our showroom. But it sounds like you did receive authentic Costa sunglasses :)

What about older Costa's? I don't think the older 400g glass was etched.

It wasn't. I have some too. Misleading video, as the older pairs weren't etched at all. Still good video, but not true with older ones.

Yes, the G after the 580 would signify glass lenses. Sounds like you have the polycarbonate material in your frames

Blackfins best

We've bought Costas for years, straight from the factory, and the etching wasn't part of the deal a few years ago. Just saying, there are real ones, albeit older, that are real without glass etching! The 400g, and I even had 580g ordered and they didn't have the etching. It's been a few years since we've needed new ones, but looking at 2 of ours currently, they don't have etching and are 100% genuine glass lenses from Costa.

Hi. I bought Costa fathoms glass last night. My lense has the 580 but the “8” almost looks like a 3. It’s from an authorized Costa dealer as I found them listed with Costas retail locator on their site. Should I be concerned or was it just a poor etching? I'd recommend taking your sunglasses back to the dealer you bought them from and show them the etching on the lenses. I bought a pair of Costa Cat Cay 580G from a gray market website. All the details seem authentic except it does not have the US patent number followed by “AT 01” printed on the inside of the arm. It has 580 edged on one of the lenses. Im not sure if it’s authentic and thinking about returning it. Has anyone seen this type of Costa before?

I ordered 580g reeftons and received them with "costa" etched on the lens. I believe they are legit, but I don't think they are glass. The sound they make when tapping on them sounds like plastic. Did costa make these lenses in plastic only with the "costa" etching? Inside of the right arm has "CE 069" printed. SKU is RFT01EGMGLP

Ok, my friend dropped my Corbinas (matte black blue lense 580 (glass)) over the side of the boat. They ordered me some off Ebay smh. They are etched 580P . The inside left says "US Pat. D616,015" and "Corbina CB 11". The right inner says "COSTA CE 18 V2" All inner writing is white and not raised. More like printed. Could you please check your stock to see If they seem legit? I know they are plastic and not glass. I'm almost over it and will settle. As long as they are actual costa corbinas. Thank you. I've subscribed

So I read someone that pretty much the same company that makes ray bans took over costa and they make some of them in Italy now but that it’s the same thing

I just spent way too long looking at a site with a bunch of fake $49 costas thinking I was on the real site and the company must be closing or something. It was costadalmar dot com instead of costadelmar I finally caught bc was almost exact lookalike site and urls are much more difficult to see on mobile. Then I got on Amazon and there’s a ‘costa del mar’ store but I cannot tell if any listings, even if priced comparably to their website sales, is associated with the real company or not. I can’t remember all the trademark rules but that’s bs and I wish there was more news to know if costa is hopefully suing these fakes cause I was really fooled for a while and thankfully didn’t purchase fakes. Thank you for this video and I wish costa would have an article or something on its own website addressing how to determine legitimate online sales and dealers, etc. do they even allow in dealer contracts for those folks to then sell stuff on Amazon? I would love to buy costas on Amazon for the shipping and return ease but not if I really can’t determine if the seller is legitimate dealer. Shame on both google and Amazon for not policing this and I hope costa (or that new company of which it is a part) would sue and get Takedown injunctions and Damages. Sheesh. Thanks again for posting though I still feel like the etching could be faked as well…

Permits with glass are the best most durable costas you can buy the frames are super tough

I read that all Costa lenses are made in the USA. but my lens only say 580 the box says that the lens are glass. I bought mine with skeeball tickets at Chuck E Cheese and now I'm not sure if they're real! Then I heard Chuck the owner was a big rat. So now I only go there to eat.

My Reefton has 580 but not the c on the etch. They are real from the store.

If it has the 580 stamp then it's usually a sign that they're legit 😎

I have a pair of Costas I know now aren't real but they're not even a fake known pair LOL they have on the inside frame WH 22 WAHOO.

I bought Costas of from the wish and they were 11.00 and there etched 580p I highly doubt there real

Hey Chip! We actually have ordered fake Costa sunglasses from China to see how hard it is to tell the difference between them and real Costa sunglasses. One of the pairs had 580P etched but you could tell by putting them next to real Costa's that the etching size/font was completely different.

SportRx Thanks. I have received items from family members traveling to China that are tagged “North Face” and look like the real thing, but the sizes are smaller, and the “Gore Tex” is not actually waterproof. Seems like they are pretty got at making things look the same. They just don’t perform the same.

Chip Davis - Yeah, my wife is Chinese and she looked good in the beginning but stretched out quickly and stopped working all together. But hey, she's cheap so I'll just replace her every year.

You are a little misleading - The older 400 lens and older models will not have any etching on the lens. And any counterfeit ‘company’ will be able to etch the lenses as well.

After watchinh this video, i went ahead and purchased this pair of Costas. Then after purchasing, all signs from other sources point to them being fake. Your video leaves out quite a bit.

@SportRxSanDiego I understand not buying from a retailer increases the chances. I was stating that I purchased them solely based off the info in your video and aparently, there's alot more to the knockoffs than just the glass being etched. Your video is lacking a tremendous amount of info needed to point out a fake. Let's just say I'll never do that again.

Just got my Costa Bimini in the mail today and everything looks awesome, lenses are super clear, paperwork, case etc all here. But it also says on the frame it’s made in China, which I’m surprised. We pay so much money to get something made in China? I wouldn’t think such brand would be manufacturing in China.

Hey David! That's correct if you have 580 etched in the corner then you have the authentic Costa 580G lenses.

I've got two pair that I bought from the biggest authorized costa dealers in our state and they're not etched on the glass.... and I've had warranty work on both pair from costa.... so I know they're legit. So no, not all costas are etched on the lense.

I have a couple of photos of them if anyone's interested just ask

I bought some Brine 580 Costas on Amazon and I am fairly certain the frames are legit Costas but the lenses I am doubting. They are indeed etched but don't say 580, but do say COSTA. I assume this are not real unless Costa has recently changed something with their etching, which i doubt.

From your analysis, I would say you hit this on the money. The lenses have always been etched with the 580 and never with the words "Costa".

As long as its etched they are real 100% costas. Certain batches they etched costa instead of 580

I got a pair of reeftons from eBay that I thought would have been genuine but sadly not the case . The case was the knock version with the zipper opening in the opposite way of the real case. Also I asked was 580P on the right hand lens and yes it was, but in this style 𝟝𝟠𝟘ℙ. So therefore the fakes are actually trying to copy the etching too.

Fakes will have stamps. Authentics will have Etchings

You left me a heart on my two comments about my possible fake Costas. LOL what does that mean you like to what I said I was hoping you could give me some tips on what I can do like do people actually purchase the bogus causes sort of like a collector's item yeah I would really like to sell them for something if anybody would like them I would like to know what I should charge for bogus pair in really good shape that are really cute they look like hippie glasses anyway I want to put them on marketplace but I don't know what to charge $10 $20 $30 could I even charge 50 that would be cool cuz I'm trying to make rent for December thank you very much oh I'm a handicap woman on SSI that's why I need to sell stuff to make rent thank you for any help you could give me I really need it LOL

The blue lenses doesn't block out any sunlight, it's like looking through a cheap pair of dollar tree glasses...

I'm afraid we don't agree. The Blue Mirror definitely cuts a good amount of light and certainly helps with color enhancement. It sounds like you've had a bad experience with them; we're sorry to hear that! With that being said, it is inarguable that the lenses actually do cut light transmission and it could be proven with a spectrometer. Perhaps you tried a fake Costa?

I've had a pair that I bought from my local costa dealer, they got damaged and I sent them to luxottica which is their warranty dept and they just dont seem the same...

They cost 25$ to make

I’m thinking the fakers are now etching the lenses. Ordered a pair of Tuna Alley on line for 43.00 thinking I’d request a refund from PayPal. They came in a Costa box just like the ones I ordered direct from Costa for about 200 bucks. Punch line....the 43.00 ones were etched...🤷🏻‍♂️ Now how do I know ?! Figure at that price they must be fake.

I bought costas from aliexpress and there just as good for $4, nuts to pay few hundred for sunglasses, no one gonna be like in public hey yo those are fakes bro. You know why? Who cares!!! 😂😂

Make sure the fakes at least provide UV protection as many do not! Without it, you're eyes will relax behind the tint allowing the hash ras to pass through and cause damage over time. 'The more you know!'🌈
