How to Tell if Tanzanite is Real or Fake

www.TanzaniteJewelryDesigns.com -- Find out how to tell if your tanzanite is real or fake. Steve Moriarty discusses the tools and techniques used to find out whether a gemstone is actually natural Tanzanite. He goes through the imitations that are sometimes confused with tanzanite or unethically sold as Tanzanite. There are currently no synthetics available, so he shows you how these tools will rule out certain gems, and ultimately giving you an answer to whether a tanzanite is real or fake. You can purchase the equipment you need to decipher if your tanzanite is real or fake for $150.00!
Also available to see in person at Moriarty's Gem Art Store at 126 South Main Street, Crown Point, Indiana. We're located in the hub of Northwest Indiana on the downtown Square.

Although I respect GIA you don’t get much for the $120 to $150 it will cost with postage to get a identification report on a tanzanite. And it will take 2-4 weeks. You will not get a quality grade only measurements weight and I.D as tanzanite. I have not started getting grading reports on tanzanite because they are easy to I.D. Gems that have synthetics like diamond, ruby, sapphire and emerald are what I have G.I.A do reports on because these are difficult to I.D. And you will also get a statement of treatments whereas they will not give a treatment status on tanzanite. Trust us and our 4 decades of buying and selling tanzanite to supply you with the highest quality genuine tanzanite. You will get an appraisal with overall quality grade plus, type of treatment as well as everything G. I .A. provides. To the best of my knowledge an appraisal is a legal document whereas a grading report is an opinion with enough disclaimers that it is not a legal document.

My husband upgraded my diamond engagement ring with a 7mm round cut Tanzanite with 1/2 ct in diamonds. I loved my original diamond ring, but I love this so much more. The first time I saw Tanzanite in the late 90's, it was love at first sight. I love my ring.

This demonstration has been unbelievably value to me as I've come into rather many loose gemstones as well as mounted pieces. Only question, which I'm certain is in the other videos but I've yet to find it so, what are best ways to determine, primarily tanzanite & paraiba tourmaline, that are mounted.

Love your videos. Explained in a way that is easy to understand. I do have a question though. I have a tanzanite that shows light brown under a chelsea filter as it's supposed to, slightly dichroic under dichroscope, but under the Hanneman Tanzanite filter under a strong incandescent bulb, the stone remains dark blue, when it is supposed to pink-ish. Can this happen with Tanzanite or is it fake?

I see a lot of 'tanzanite' beads that looks like iolite with their less vibrant color -a more greyish purple I use gem beads for their therapeutic effect and each gem have their special affinities so I really need to know how to get the real ones

Thank you again Steve.! I bet your wife has such a Gorgeous collection..😍😍💖 I actually went ahead and bought the tanzanite filter you showed... I bought a GORGEOUS 14kt gold, ring with 1.70 Carat Drak blue Labeled AAA Tanzanite & 1carat of diamonds. The seller is from india & i couldn’t pass up the deal of only 245$. It comes with a Egl certificate. (i know egl is terrible.) I will take it to GIA. but the tanzanite was so gorgeous & the seller offers 60day returns plus had over 2000 amazing postive feedbacks and they specialize in Tanzinite. So after question him alot, I bought it & this filter will be phenomenal for me. I will eventually buy the larger machine your using. But this will work perfectly. I already own several real tanzanite rings & i find it very easy to see the colors even in incandescent lights with my jewlers loop. The rings im wearing are lighter blue ones but omg the reds they show are amaazing..! Thank you so much for telling me about this filter. Im so excited to get it.! I love seeing the colors. Also I’m talking to my fiance about having your company making my engagement ring. I can NEVER HAVE TO MUCH JEWELRY.! 😉😍😍😍Thanks again😘😘

@@Moregems Steve ~ you was 1000% Right..!🤦🏼‍♀️😭 I got the ring and the “digital egl certificates” 🙄 looked so shady.! I opened the ring & “tanzanite graded AA” i could tell it wasnt tanzanite within 6seconds of looking at it & the color was such a dark blue that if it was real ~ it would of been graded “AAAA”. It looked super flimsy too. Plus the tanzanite wasn’t even tricolored at all like all my other pieces. Im a huge jewlery collector and i can tell poor quality very easy w/a glance. I told the buyer and they insisted everything was real. I used the tanzanite filter and darkest one was green.😰 😤🤬 So i took it into my local jewler & had them look the entire ring over. Come to find out even though its stamped 14kt white gold ~ it wasn’t gold at all.! It was silver stamped 14kt white gold. 😤🤬 Poor quality lab diamonds & the tanzanite was a doublet with dark blue glass on back of it. I reported them to ebay but they acted like it was no big deal. 🤦🏼‍♀️ I told them this is a federal offense and as bad as selling counterfeit money...! They don’t care though..🤦🏼‍♀️🙄😭 Im returning the ring for my 260$+ ebay forced them to accept return... take away ~ ILL NEVER BUY FROM INDIA AGAIN.! Thanks for being so helpful.! I greatly appreciate you. I also gave me fiance your email so im sure he will be in touch soon. Thanks so much..! Jess

I think I made a mistake by buying raw Tanzanite on etsy. They looked convincing enough, inclusions and not all uniform colour like they were actually mined and not grown. I hope they are real Tanzanite 😬

You can see some of our natural tanzanite crystals on our website here: www.tanzanitejewelrydesigns.com/collections/crystals There are no synthetic tanzanite (grown) on the market, only imitations, which are other minerals that somewhat look like tanzanite.

Have you seen the enormous amount of fake tanzanite on eBay ? Tons of pretty blue glass being sold for pennies. eBay feels no motive to clean up this fraud even though it would raise the quality of the marketplace for honest gem sellers.

The term fake tanzanite just implies that a stone was sold as or implicitly documented as a natural mined gemstone to obtain a higher value than what it is. A simulant or synthetic manmade to imitate a tanzanite does not make it a fake tanzanite. Just saying...

The Exotic Shorthair - that works too, but these are the tools that we use (as jewelers) to identify and confirm a gem is Tanzanite.

then that means the video wasn't meant for you. these are tools and procedures those Jewelers do when you take it. and don't have the mentality that you don't have to learn something because you can just have someone else do it.

And then several years later. Lab created hit the market. And now unless you happen to get one with a GIA cert they just have no value. So all of this build up on investing in tanzanite is rather worthless today. And if you do not believe. Go and look for yourselves. Both the Chinese and India markets are pushing lab specimens something fierce. The 2.75 carat natural in a setting I purchased years ago has now dropped in value over 80%. That sucks people. Truly.

i'm sorry. It wasn't my intention to insult you or hurt your feelings, vikash K J. I know one of my ears hears half the volume of sound the other does, so I have my own issues from the sound pollution of life and too many ear-splitting rock concerts. lol. I cranked the volume up on my laptop and the Mr. Steve was loud enough the volume had to go down. That's why I'm thinking you may have some hearing loss, my friend. peace~ moodyl
