I lost my little guy last week. But I save these so someday when I get another dog, I’ll have reference material. I shared with my brother and sister to help with their dogs. When I do get another dog, I’ll definitely be trying to get training with you. You are truly the dog daddy!

I have 7 cats but I, also, am fascinated by the Dog Daddy’s common sense, rational and loving method of training. His philosophy carries thru his feeding, caring for and housing his animals. I am very glad that he is applying his principles to himself and caring for himself better in his “down” or off-duty time. Very brave to share this vulnerability with his community who admire and support him.

You should consider adopting a dog. There’s a crisis going on right now in shelters, it’s insane. They’re euthanizing healthy PUPPIES after 2 weeks to make space out here in Los Angeles. It’s abhorrently bad. Nearly a million healthy dogs were euthanized last year in animal shelters across the US. You could even try fostering, they’re always looking for fosters and that way, there’s no pressure. If you do fall in love, you can still adopt them.

@SaltNBattery Thanks for your suggestion. I actually house 10 rescued cats and feed feral kitties who live on the property (all felines have been spay or neutered.) Most of the indoor kitties get along but there is the daily skirmish between a few. Though there are households where cats and dogs get along, this is not one. However, my contribution to shelter animals and other rescues is to share videos, make monetary contributions when possible and to pray daily for the needed support from others. Blessings!

Me too, I just "get" cats, but not dogs. Cats are very trainable, too. They're just... different. I trained horses, and I'm a mental health counselor so I've studied different theories of behavior modification. DD is perfect. His timing of corrections and rewards is just perfect. His professionalism is evident in his patience and lack of anger. "We're partners but I'm the senior partner because I know what's best for us. You can resist, but you'll be more comfortable if you don't."

I taught my dogs very reliable recall, but always with treats. It’s very impressive that Dog Daddy is teaching with no treats, just praise. It makes sense, because one of my dogs figured out that she can move away from me and force me to call her, and then she gets a treat. And when I did not have treats with me, she would become less reliable with recall.

My dog is the shepherd mix that was near the fence the big black and cream guy. He has learned that people give treats for come, I don't. Because he is too smart for his own good he now comes to anyone he notices calling a dog just in case he can get some goodies as he has about a 50/50 success rate.

Thank you for this. I’ve always made the mistake of going after the dog. Years ago we had a beautiful puppy Chihuahua/Dachshund who took off running when we brought her to a park with a big open field. My daughter looked at me and asked, “How far should I let her run?” I said, “How far do you want to chase her.” We had a good laugh but I see there’s a much better way now.

One of my rehomed dogs got out when someone’s came to the door. My husband chased her for ages. I wasn’t home, but when I got in, he was frustrated as he had chased her for a whole hour. 🤣 It happened again, when she followed one of my boys out to play. This time I was home, so I went out, called her with a happy tone, making her excited to see what was happening. I called her name then ran the opposite way from her, to come back home! She chased me, right into the house - no problem! I realised when she was running, she kept turning around, to make sure she was being followed. This was the game to her. RIP Hollie 💔 She was a beautiful dog, who had bilateral hip dysplasia 😖 separation anxiety along with other complexities. She was a Lab/Collie and the smartest, most beautiful girl. She lived until almost the age of 13, when she developed cancer. 💔 I was so blessed to have her in my life. She would jump on all fours on the big trampoline my boys had! I look forward to the day when I collect her from Rainbow Bridge. 🌈 ❤️🐕‍🦺

All this is good information, I absolutely appreciate even one small insight that I didn’t have. I have an extremely difficult puppy, he’s been excruciatingly stubborn from the start and although there is progress he still has a bit of unpredictable aggression towards outsiders (even if it’s people who’ve been over before and played with him) this is feeling like my only chance to get his unpredictability under control is to have full control of my pup. It’s been a long, real rough road!

A while back, one of the dogs we had was a female King Charles Cavalier Spaniel. It was around the holidays and we were expecting company. My husband opened the front door, didn't find anyone there, and closed it. My son ran to me and said that he saw our dog go out the door...my husband did not. I ran outside and by this time she was all the way down the block. I yelled her name and her "come" command. She turned around and came all the way back home. While I was so proud of her for coming back from that distance...she had also been trained not to go out an open door without being on a leash....:( Back to the drawing board for that one. I only like to use treats to train young puppies...treats disappear for the most part pretty quick. Sometimes I will grab a treat to surprise the dog we have now on our walks if I want to throw in some training...but for the most part I want my dogs to obey because they have a bond with me and they know what is expected. I have always preferred praise to treats...

Really appreciate this pro training. Never used a leash with my girls for training ...just said the command when they were naturally doing something like laying down. And, of course positive reinforcement (Why would anyone hit or yell at a dog when they come on command, even if they were doing something 'bad' before? Crazy!) One of my girls trained ME to toss the ball. The other prefers a little play, then wants to chill. Easiest dogs ever.

Dogdaddy your natural ability in dog training is amazing, ive seen you handle the biggest of them. My french Mastiff( had her since a pup) tried training her myself but shes 1 1/2 yrs old and 120lbs of muscle and she drags me down the street, she is just too strong and ill mannered on a leash..what kind of leash can I use to train her? Help

Clear explanation and demonstration. Thanks much for sharing! Also, what an incredibly generous offer for free training. If I lived in AZ I'd definitely take you up on it. Have a great day! 💜
