How to talk about what you LIKE and DISLIKE in English -- Advanced English Lesson.
Have you ever heard someone say, "I'm really keen on travelling to...." or "I'm really into football". In this short lesson I will show you some ADVANCED ways that you can learn to talk about what you LIKE and DISLIKE in English. Instead of just using the same phrases over and over again, learn how to sound more like native English speakers. For example.......Why do native English speakers often NOT use "I like" or "I don't like" when they want to talk about their likes and dislikes? The answer is because they use expressions and idioms to do this instead. So instead of saying, "I like Tennis", a native English speaker might say, "I'm really into Tennis".
In this video I'm going to teach you 3 ways to say what you like and 3 ways to say what you don't like, in exactly the same way a native speaker might say it.
You might hear native speakers saying, "I'm a big fan of...." or "I'm really keen on..." and in this video you will learn what they mean!
There is also a bonus expression at the end of the video, "to have a knack for" which means, 'an ability or special method for doing something easily and well' . E.g He has a knack for fixing things. She has a knack for dancing. He has a real knack for programming.

I am also keen on horror movies and I used to be into Martial Arts too but sadly I'm a little too busy now to practice. (NOTE: In English we don't say 'play' martial arts, instead we use 'do' or sometimes 'go', for example, "I go to Karate class 3 times per week" and "I do Kung Fu at my friends Dojo".

James, you've said "ofTen". Is T said?
@EasyENGLISHwithJames
3 жыл бұрын
Hi! In British English we sometimes use the “t” in often and at other times we don’t. So you might hear someone say, “I don’t eat chocolate very often”. Or “I don’t eat chocolate very offen”. It just depends on the speaker. Pronouncing the T sounds a little bit more formal in my personal opinion. It depends on the situation. I believe in American English “offen” is used much more frequently. Hope that helps!

your answer is very good.. .👍🙏👍
I am into ice skating
Sir how to use dislike in the sentence?
@EasyENGLISHwithJames
2 жыл бұрын
Dislike is very formal. Normally we would use “doesn’t like/don’t like”. E.g. “I don’t like very hot weather” or “he doesn’t like being bored.” But if we are in a very formal position place (talking to a doctor or a boss at work) we could say…”I really dislike very hot weather” or “He dislikes being bored.” Basically only use dislike if you want to sound very formal or are writing an essay for university.

If i Don't like anything, Can i say? I'm not keen on football?,
@EasyENGLISHwithJames
2 жыл бұрын
Yes, when you don’t like something you can say “I’m not keen on…”. For example, “I’m not keen on Tennis” or “I’m not keen on that movie.” If you want to soften it a little you can add “too” which means “not very” so you could say, “I’m not too keen on Football” which means “I don’t like it much”. Hope that helps!
