Do you think you could do this with a much larger (human sized) branch? These things grow wild all over our property, and we're thinking of making a privacy fence for the neighboring property.

That's a good question. I would certainly try it but I'd do them in pots rather than the ground. Allow for failures so do double remove half the leaves and keep well watered. Worth trying I think

Thank you for this clear informative video. Your six month follow-up video informs I think, that you took cuttings in October. Is that correct? We have a favourite yellow-berried, mature (40-50 year old) tree producing berries every year but it has gradually lost most of it’s lower branches. I want somehow to prune it to see it I can get it to regenerate new branches from lower down (it has two larger and one smaller trunks, dividing at about three feet above ground, but I’d love to root some cuttings as well. We have no other hollies in our garden but live very near woods in rural West Sussex.

Love your video and the expert tips.... Could our clematis vines also be propagated this way? Putting the stems in water doesn't seem to grow roots so I'm thinking that using your method with growth hormone would work?

Hi there, I would say give it a try, but also at the same time try other methods...perhaps layer a stem onto the soil by pinning it down? mark

My personal opinion is you can plant a bush any time. It's the after care which matters. Make sure it is well watered if planting in the warmer season. For cuttings probably autumn is best, but why not just have a go any time? I would. Best wishes. Mark

My holly tree and I live in San Francisco. Im doing fine but my holly tree is not well. It developed some kind of 'fungus' (I don't know what else to call it) which has caused a dying off of the lower branches. It is a female tree with a healthy bunch berry clusters at the top, though. Two winters ago it was very wet during the winter and that's when the problem began. Any suggestions on what I could do to bring it back to health?

Hello Katherine and hello San Francisco (I was there this January) if it's fungus due to damp perhaps getting air and light into may help? Is it in a sheltered spot? Can things around it be pruned to allow a breeze? Also, if the top is healthy but the bottom isn't perhaps it could be topiarised into a lollipop shape? You can send a photo to my email if you like Mark@marksgardenuk.com

how many could you stick in one large pot? Could you do this with Hawthorn and Blackthorn? How do nurserys do this in bulk?

I think you could do many in one pot. I have 5 in each pot. I think nurseries probably have machines to help them mass production. The slight problem with growing several in one pot might be root damage when you separate. Best wishes. Mark
