How to take Dahlia cuttings - have the confidence to try

Dahlias are opulent expensive-looking flowers but are cheap to buy as tuburs. Taking cuttings you can double, triple or even quadruple your crop of flowers and fill your garden with colour. This video shows you how simple it is and should give beginners the confidence to have a go.

It looks lovely, a pity you did not show the after 3 or 4 weeks how the cutting are doing.

I just "tried it" three days ago. It's scary at first, dissecting your plant, but I like the concept of free flowers from blooms that I like.

And keep them out of sun until decents sized roots and spray leaves with mister twice a day and keep in shade.

I didn't know where on the plant to cut it so I took probably 20 different cuttings and I really really hope that some of them actually grow

Do you need to cover these with a plastic lid? Do they need to be in indirect light and what temperature? I have so many questions😀

Just give it a try. It's magic when it works and if it doesn't you've not really lost anything. Good luck!

Is it too late in mid June to propogate and get flowers from it this year? I'm in the United States (Ohio).

Hi, thank you for this video. Why did you plant your cuttings to the side of the container? As I'm typing this, is because you were planting two and leaving room?

Yes they all rooted and flowered the same season. Trick is not to overwater them whilst they root in case of rot.

It's usually called a potting shoe and this one came with my greenhouse. You can buy them elsewhere though and heavy duty green plastic ones are fairly inexpensive. Hope you find one!

Wenn der Stengel bereits hohl ist, besteht nur eine Chance von höchstens 50% das daraus eine Jungpflanze wird.
