    thank you for mentioning pollinators! Also, a good eco system can help with pests (spiders, wasps, birds, lady bugs, ect...) Dont kill all the predetor bugs, and you are less likely to have pest bugs out of control.

    Very helpful thank you. . My azalea was doing so well in a pot had about 8 years. I think it may have got a little dry during the winter as my hubby moved it into a undercover area to protect against frost damage. Places on the plant looked as if they were dying. Sadly I have cut it back. Whoops had fed it etc so hope it recovers. Given a good water also. Last summer and winter it was full of flowers. It was a gift from someone very special so keeping my fingers x.

    @@BermudaBrian thank you for your comments. I did re pot it last summer in ericausous Whoops sorry if you received a line back to you in error. I was saying no I did re pot it last summer before it flowered. It was doing really well. The problem seems to have taken place over the winter months. I think my hubby may have. It given the plant as much water as I may have done, with it being placed under cover, bless him he was so worried about the possible frost killing it , he sort of over protected it I think. I would have dealt with it myself, but have been poorly over the winter months so not really been much into the garden until the past few weeks. Maybe a good cut back will set it back this year, if it makes it hehe, but fingers x will recover for following season. It was a gift from a patient of mine, who was so grateful for helping her at a time of need. Such a lovely person, so it holds a special place with me. The person in question is in her 80s and I send her a picture every year to show how pretty it is. She tells me how well I must care for it, so think that will not be the case this year. I am giving it an regular iron feed so will just have to wait and see. Good luck with your garden. Nice to hear from you.

    @@BermudaBrian Hi! Just found your channel and I live in Georgia as well. When we bought our house we have 4 maple trees planted across the front yard, close to road. Someone before us had planted a white azalea under each one of those trees and slowly but surely, each one has stopped blooming except for the one that gets the late afternoon/evening sun. The other three are in complete shade all day. When is the best time of year to transplant them? Thanks in advance if you see this!

  • @BermudaBrian

    Where do you live? Could they have frost damage? If they are dropping leaves, is there a chance the roots are sitting in water? Try pushing a dry stick down to bottom of roots and see if it comes back out soaking wet. If the roots are sitting in water, you may be too late. Replant on some sort of raised pea gravel bed with soil amendments mixed in w native soil

    I planted small encore azaleas 2 years ago and I have never pruned them as they are still small. They have never bloomed since planting. They get 5-6 hours of afternoon sun during the summer. I believe they get 4-5 hours of sun in the fall/winter as my house faces North/West. I plan to add the azalea fertilizer as my pH is 6.1. Could the pH keep them from blooming?

  • @BermudaBrian

    @BermudaBrian

    Жыл бұрын

    You want your pH to be about 5.0-5.5. Azaleas like acidic soil. Encore azaleas need more sunlight than other azaleas. So, you want to make sure they get about 6 hours of sun a day. Make sure you have a good mulch layer around the azaleas but not touching the main trunk. Be careful when you are pruning them.... Early to Mid summer is the best time. If you get harsh winters where you live, think about covering or protecting them. Hope this helps you. Thanks for watching my video!

    do you hard trim azaleas after it has bloomed?

  • @BermudaBrian

    @BermudaBrian

    3 ай бұрын

    Great question! I have used multiple approaches. I have hard azaleas that I just let nature run its course and they grew without any maintenance and as large as they wanted. I have also slightly trimmed after blooming. I have also done a hard trim AFTER blooming. If hard trimming, I would definitely use sharp pruners and possibly close the cut with a pruning spray to prevent disease or insects from affecting the azaleas

    Will rubber mulch harm azaleas

  • @BermudaBrian

    @BermudaBrian

    Ай бұрын

    You will be introducing rubber to your soil. I haven't had experience with how rubber becomes brittle and breaks down... I know people like the rubber mulch bc of its longevity compared to wood mulch. Wood mulch can break down and provide organic matter to existing soil which is beneficial. Thanks for watching!
