I am with Hensley, I would rather sleep in cold than heat!

We live in the Phoenix area. Nope. Nope. Nope. When you’re cold, you can add clothes/blankets. When it’s hot, you run out of clothes you can remove very quickly!

We did that stop a few years ago after watching your video. My husband thought I’d lost my mind when we turned onto that dirt road. I said trust me!! I watched a video about it. We definitely want to go back!

I live in Rapid City. Last week during rally it was high in the 70s with lows in the 50s. Today we may hit 100 for the first time this year. It is 97 now. We full time in our RV.

Pretty cool home school. Love how interested kids were. Hensley said she never knew this. Well now she knows more. Than most kids. ❤

We had 90° at Nomad Views in September, but it cooled down to 60° at night. Having been through a heat related illness, it was shocking how quickly you go from OK to really bad. But that spot is very special.

I know the one thing you love about your home on wheels is the vast windows. However, wouldn't it be to your advantage in 100' weather to cover them up especially while you are attempting to lower the temps inside. Even with double pane glass you absorb a lot of heat and lose a lot of your ac...IMO..Making removable window covers and using them while you are trying to cool down the inside would be more energy efficient use of your home sitting in full 100' temperatures.

I feel you! We did it after the 4th in 2021. It was an oven! But the kids loved the experience and the sunrise is unbeatable!

Great episode! Glad it cooled off for you while you were there. We stayed at The Nomad View in June and it was so much more crowded but it was also a lot cooler. We had a herd of cows come through our spot which was a nice surprise.

Nathan, if you shut the fuel off before you stop the generator it will greatly reduce the varnishing up of the carburetor. I have one that does that automatically. I've also done it on outboard motors and I've got a 1965 or so Johnson 6 horse that I don't think has ever varnished up. It also helps to give it one more last pull after it stops with the choke on to get the last little bit of gas out. Keep the good stuff coming guys.

Yellow Mounds is my fav as well! I give y'all credit for pushing through in that heat! Great example for the kids! Epic views for sure! Great video as always!

We were there the last week in June of this year with our RV, Our son in his and our daughter and nearly all of our grandkids boondocking a bit futher around the lip from where you are. We love this place and a little heat won't stop me from enjoying the views you get from there

This video makes us feel glad we chose to do a project in North Dakota in August. Not sure how we lucked out but 70s/low 80s during the day and we even saw 48deg one morning! 😅

It is absolutely fabulous indeed!! Bravo for the courage it takes to boondocking in such weather ;-) glad it went well. Can’t wait to visit again - we loved it when we did it in 2012…it was very lonely then… secret is out!

My hubby and I have followed you from the beginning. We have loved camping in our 5th wheel. Now that he is gone, things are different, but I still love my boondocking in my Roadtrek van.

We did it last year in August. Hot, but so worth it. We got the most amazing spot on the edge. Stayed 3 night. Couple of super thunder storms, but still a magical place.

We live in MN, growing up the Badlands and Mt Rushmore were our summer vacation spots. People who live up here travel there every summer. It’s so beautiful! Sturgis Bike Rally brings in a ton of people to that area, too. Now that we are traveling more, we need to boondock in that spot. So beautiful! Thanks for the video! Come see us on I-90 in Fairmont, MN! We have gone hog wild and we have 5+ lakes to enjoy in the area!

We been there mid June and it was awesome. It was pretty cool. We absolutely loved it!

We were there in early May. Two nights, no wind! It was perfect. So there is an occasional break in the wind. We have a van, so left to explore Bad Lands NP, came back that night and got the same spot! Truly magical. And, I mean really, if things went bad, you can just leave, so I think taking that risk in the heat is totally worth it.

We were there in July. Beautiful weather. The place was packed. Thanks for sharing the location. Florida is in the 100's, feels like 115..

Well, we stayed in the Badlands, Budget Badlands RV park for 35.00 a night full hook up. From August, 16th to August 20th. Glad we did. The day we 😅did the loop was great weather. The 19th it hot up to 104 . We spent some time in the pool. Glad we watched you before we went there.

I was just there last month boondocking just north of the radio/cell towers...great spot! Watch out for the cow patties! Thanks you guys!

We did it around the same time, but last year. Parked, trailer was 99 degrees. Got the generator going and went to The Wall drug and DQ by the time we made it back it was in the lower 80s. Once the sun is down, AC got much better.

Here now & doing all the things ~ We had dinner with flies & mosquitoes last night here at the KOA. Tomorrow on our way out, we'll stop at Nomad View. BTW, we've been using window deflectors in the Airsteam to keep the temps down. Sending hugs to your sweet family. Thank you for taking us along ! Wanda & Vinnie

That Minuteman site is a stroll down memory lane for this old SAC officer. Thanks for letting me know I can get in there in my soon Grand Design Reflection 31’ outfit. Wall has always been a favorite of mine and I’ll be visiting there soon. That place is getting to be Quartzite north! Pleas keep it our secret. 😉 Thanks for another 100° hot video! 😂

When you guys were there about 7 years ago I was right behind you, but missed you by a few days. Last year was the first year I didn’t go back to The Wall (Nomad View) since then. It’s my favorite place. The weather is no joke there. In 2021 there was a camper that had blown off the side. A few years before that the wind was so strong that it actually blew my slide in. There was very few people there that first time and now it’s very crowded. There is an RV park in Wall proper. I think it might be easy for you guys to think you’re not making an impact, but you are. I went because you guys were there and showed drone footage (there wasn’t as big of a delay back then from where you were and when you put out a video). But, I have a ton of memories from there thanks to you guys. The last time I was there I met the folks from LOLOHO.

We were supposed to be headed for TX (Austin & Houston areas) for medical reasons about 10 days ago. But we were afraid the heat would make us worse & we'd roast - literally - in our RV. Watching you guys deal with the heat makes me glad we postponed our dr visits to the beginning of Oct. We're just praying it'll cool off some so the RV doesn't melt while we're driving there & so its bearable enough for us to live in our RV for a few weeks🙏🏼. Maybe we'll get lucky like y'all & have some rain to cool things down - just don't want a hurricane to deal with🤞

Omg! Houston has been over 100° for 3 straight months & Huntsville’s been over 110°. Finally down to 99° for September with some rain. Now the humidity is unbearable… has me wishing back the 107° dry heat.

Growing up in Orange County (CA) in the 60's and just a mile away from a Naval Weapons Depot which stocked nukes, we had to practice "Duck & Cover" regularly in grade school. I remember all of that very well.

That rain in South Dakota was a COOL gift from God!!! We went there 10 years ago. Uniquely beautiful area! As you were there, I am in Tennessee. I attended the Petra 50th Reunion concert at Hope Church in Algood, TN. That’s outside Cookeville. Awesome concert!!! My wife and I met at a Petra concert in Ohio some time ago. Just finished visiting Parrot Mountain in Pigeon Forge and completed a Pink Jeep tour of the Smoky Mountains after days of heavy rains. God has finally brought good weather relief to Tennessee. A blessed day!!! Heading home to Ohio tomorrow. Maybe we can meet another year. By the way, General RV of North Canton was one of the sponsors of the Alive Christian Music Festival in July. It was great to see them there! Of course lots of RVs at the Atwood Lake campground for the festival. God bless!!!

Used to love to go to wall drug when i was a kid. We lived in colorado but my mom's family was in fargo, ND. We went almost every summer to Pelican lake ,mn

We too have been to Nomad View, in July @ 90+ over the week of the 4th. It RAINED!!! and i forgot to roll the truck windows up. Cup holders FULL floor board FULL seats you guessed it FULL. But it's a great place. We have plans to o again.

Ya know the duck and cover? All through grade school I had that warning. Duck and cover. We also had a lot of tornado drills too. The weather can change quickly just about anywhere this year. Seems to me. Thank you the video is great!

“No spill jugs” have spilled the most amount of gas since the beginning of time 😂🤣😂

We have a similar Victron setup, 2x Multiplus 1s, 600Ah LiPo, 1500w Solar on the roof of our 41ft 5th wheel. What I have found is that running the Multis in "Stand Alone" mode without the ethernet connected between them and setting the current limit on each one to 12.5A max. Then fire up my genny and turn on both AC units (It can not directly drive both AC units). With the current limit set, each one gets a solar assist anytime an AC unit is on, but still directs some charge to the battery bank. Only when both units cycle on at the same time, did I go into a small deficit. That was usually brief. I'd end up the day with a cool RV and full batteries (we didn't need the AC for night). The "Two Multis in Parallel" single phase mode did not work very well with both AC units cycling on/off.

was just at badlands a few weeks ago there, 2 nights camping in a tent. It's was a triple digits both days, it was a dry heat but never again. I looked at their weather and it seemed it was the worse time of the year to go there. Need to go back in better weather to enjoy this NP. this was one of the last stops on this year's coast to coast yellow stone ( where I woke ups to low 40's in the morning) Glacier, then devils tower, Blackwood and then here. Next year's trip will be better planned and longer.

Whew! Glad you’re not telling anyone else about this place! 😅 Too hot more me. Definitely do it now because when you get older it’s like impossible to tolerate no matter what you WANT to do 🥵

Boy do I remember that crazy edict to duck and cover! As if a student desk is going to protect us from a nuclear bomb when it’s more likely to fall on someone and give them a concussion! But back in the late 50’s early 60’s we didn’t question teachers or principals. Or your parents. I think we were a lot more naive than kids are today. I was just glad when we didn’t have to do that anymore. Especially since after we got past the “hiding under the desk” thing I never gave it another thought until one day someone mentioned that being under the desk wouldn’t have done anyone any good it dawned on me that they were probably right. Ok so I’m a late bloomer. Ok so I’m a REALLY late bloomer!!! Anyway, hope you survived the trip!

My dad was career Air Force and he actually manned some of those missile sites in the 60's. In fact, he was manning one of those sites the day I nearly died from appendicitis. He had our only car and my mom was home with the four of us kids (ages 12, 10, 8, and 2) when I got so sick. Fortunately our neighbor, who was also in the Air Force, was able to get us to the base hospital (Ellsworth AFB.) Then performed emergency surgery on me and I spent nearly a week in the hospital. I cannot imagine my mother's fears during that event! All that to say that I really need to visit the museum the next time I go home (and Wall Drug, too, of course!)

We made that mistake last year, 101 on the rim. The sheep/goats? were sitting in the Shade of our RV and didn't move when we came out. My thoughts are with you.

We stopped by Wall-SD (badlands) the middle of June boondocking (rarely do we have to run our AC). Better (lower) temperatures but lots of mosquitos. Great spot to explore, but at 100 degree F.

Wow…amazing views and crazy hot temperatures!!! I would be suffering heat stroke at those temperatures!

We are in the National Grasslands just outside the badlands now . Was hot yesterday but cooled down to the high 50's at night 8/16/23

I grew up in San Diego in the 50's and 60's. We did that stupid 'duck and cover' routine at least once a month in school. Everything city on the west coast was prime for a Russian attack so we knew 'the drill'. Lot of good it would've done. I remember stopping at Wall Drug in '72 when I road my m/c cross country. For miles after miles the signs by the highway read 'Free Ice Water at Wall Drug'. By the time I got there I was so thirsty I couldn't wait! Course I could stop at any stop along the way and gotten free ice water but 'they advertised it' and I fell for it! I learned the power of positive advertising on that day!

We’ve had our Hondas which includes the companion for 5 years. We only use True Fuel and not gas and have never had to clean it. Just a thought. We love them and run our air conditioner as well. Enjoyed your video.

I feel ya! We were Harvest Hosting recently in 95 degrees. But inside the trailer was unbearable. We made it through 2 nights but could not do any more. It’s draining. All you can think about is air movement. Not the wines or the alpacas or the great history. We’ve learned that August is a no go for no electricity for us. And our little a Honda gen is doing us no good in storage.

Absolutely gorgeous. The thing with western South Dakota.... stay away the first few weeks of August. One of the biggest motorcycle rallies in the country is the second week of August. Have you been to Falls Park in Sioux Falls? Absolutely gorgeous and a little unexpected in the middle of a city (and has RV parking).

We did Wall / Nomads View late August two years ago and because of the cool nights we only had to run the generator one day out of three

We were just there in the Black Hills! Love the entire area. We did Minute Man Missile site and Badlands too. We drove to that boondocking site but was packed and very uneven to get up there so decided against it with our 40 foot class A.

When I was there in June, there were 5 huge class A all in a row at the top of the hill as you go in the north entrance. You could have done it. Oh well.

You can have 100° plus with full hook ups here in South Louisiana. I have a cover and sun shades all around my class A and inside gets 88-90° cant wait for cooler temps.

We've been to Wall Drug twice, but have not camped in the area yet. At least you should have had ice water... 😛 Our Honda generator is sitting in the garage with a bad carb due to old gas, so I replaced it with two smaller generators that can be paired to run the AC, are light weight, and have a gas cut off so you can run the carb dry quickly, and even pour the gas out when it gets a few months on it and leave dry or refill with gas. So much better than the Honda, and almost as quiet. The reason I have not repaired the electric start Honda is due to my age and it's weight. My previous Ram 3500 had a huge alternator and would charge the batteries well, but back then, we didn't have any solar, so the generator was our main option.

Go in September to Wall, SD. SD is glorious then! Boondock all you want!

If I’m running off grid I take my IcyBreeze with me full of ice and another cooler full of ice also. Works like a charm.

I’ve stayed there near the radio towers. Amazing place

You should carry battery operated fans. Placing a wet cloth in front of the fan can help cool you down. Stock ice and ice water that you can freeze that can help keep body temp down. I prefer cooler spots but you can manage if prepared. If you have extra water wet your t-shirts and wear them that keeps your body temp down.

You need to get some cooling towels. They really help!!! And when we went in it was Sunny. But like you guys a rain storm came in quickly. The only good thing was we got into the park in the back side and when we left going thru the main entrance with the rain they just waved us out. So we didn't have to pay.

Thanks to you all our bucket list is growing!!! I absolutely love traveling through you and discovering these beautiful areas we have here in the states!! Can’t wait for our adventures to begin!! Thank you for all your hard work and again allowing us to travel with you!

I’m used to over 100 degrees being in Las Vegas area. But not in an Rv. It had to be hard to with stand the heat. Glad you got the generator going. I’ve done it, outside of Sacramento it was a group site with no power and generator hours. We just spent as much time outside in the shade.

I grew up in the desert and at one point lived in a motor home for 2 years. Take aluminum foil and line all the windows. Tape it on, and put the shiny side facing out. It will reflect the heat and keep things a lot cooler inside. It’s cheap and relatively easy.

We drive in a Prius and sleep in motels. It's not as cheap and the views are not as pretty, but usually we are heading to someplace and we need a good night's rest. But yes, we've done Wall Drugs and Badlands. Just driving through and stopping to enjoy the views, it was awesome. I'm setting up to car camp, but will mostly stick to California where I live. If I have a reason to go that way again, maybe I'll stay a day or two. But not in 100 heat.

Y'all are brave.. don't see how you could even enjoy hiking in that heat. It is pretty..maybe it would be just as pretty in Oct 😊

Always put Sta-Bil in the gas for your generator. I can let my Westinghouse portable gen sit for months and it fires right up.

Breakfast in that heat must be ice cubes lol! It’s hot here Washington state as watching this video ugh

I boondocked there per your recommendation and it is an epic spot, but be careful of the wind it broke my door hinge at the beginning of a month long trip. :)

Shade. Cool clothes. Ice. Wear a hat when outdoors (there are evaporative type cooling bucket or baseball type hats but you also can dunk any cloth hat you like in water for evaporative cooling). Evaporative cooling with damp-wet towels on the windows held by duct tape and hopefully so in a breeze. Plenty of hydration and possibly use drinks with electrolytes. "Evaporative cooling vests" are about $40 each and help - available on the Internet. Take any heat exhaustion symptoms very seriously and get cooler fast if you have same. I have lived in 3 hot states and currently am in Arizona. I have trained and competed in hot humid weather in archery. Like I mention, be aware of heat exhaustion symptoms.

Always use ethanol free gas for your genny.Pulling the air cleaner and shooting a couple of squirts of small carb cleaner into the intake will often be enough to get it to start and run.

Try the Lake Superior Circle Tour if you want to get out of 100 degree temperatures. Today, August 14th, the high temp in Duluth MN is 84. The high temp in Thunder Bay Ontario is 81. Or try Maine. The Portland Maine weather is not forecasted to be above 80 this whole week.
