    another really important aspect of grunge is buying clothes secondhand!! this aesthetic was basically created by garage bands who didn't have enough money to buy "nicer" clothes

    yep! i personally get all my outfits and accessories from thrift stores, because they have the more old warn out look, and they're cheap! the only times I get newer stuff is when I get chains, necklaces, rings, or shoes.

    if you have to buy your "grunge" outfit at the department store it's not grunge lmaOO grunge is an anti-consumerism movement, the grunge look is literally just thrift store clothes. its not your fault, our consumerist society pre-packages "aesthetics" as a ploy to get easy money

  • @merfwriter

    @merfwriter

    4 жыл бұрын

    Yes exactly! That's what happened in the 90's. For example, Kurt Cobain was just a young musician from a small working class blue collar logging town outside of Seattle, Washington. He didn't come from money. He didn't have the money to shop at the fancy department stores. He shopped at thrift stores to buy affordable clothes. But once the Seattle Grunge scene was at its height and the so called fashion of that scene hit the mainstream; retailers wanted to get their hands on the new trend at the time. They wanted to make money on upper middle class/rich kids and their parents who shopped only at the malls and the big retail stores.

    From someone who lived through the 80's and 90's: Great outfits! 4 and 5 are super! Love how the punky 80's and the grungy 90's meet in your looks! I don't know if it's pure 'grunge' but it's a lovely, aesthetic interpretation. I highly recommend for you to start thrifting. There are amazing authentic band T's and other wearables pieces to be discovered at thrift markets or stores, that look vintage and give an outfit that grungy edge. Fast fashion like found in Hot Topic is a good first step for closet staples, but the fast fashion industry also pollutes the planet terribly. So hopefully l can encourage you to watch a documentary like " True Cost" on the damages of the fast fashion industry, and check out some thrifting vloggers on KZread and urge you to edge up your lovely grunge style by thrifting 😘 🤗😍

There are no grunge aesthetic in grunge (or alt rock) music. Chances are you'll probably find girls who dress like these "grunge aesthetic" outfits at some edm or kpop concerts.

    Wenxing Wang I’ve also been to alice in chains and other grunge bands and you are right that most people just wear a band shirt. I personally do dress like this and listen to grunge and find it kind of stupid how you judge people wearing this style without even seeing them at an edm or kpop concert; you obviously don’t go there. It’s true that some people with this style wear shirts without knowing the bands and that’s annoying but you have a way bigger chance that they do. Besides that, if people like to dress this way and listen to kpop that should be fine.

    @@mayag4708 I agree that it's annoying when you think someone enjoys the same music and then they end up not even knowing the band. On the other hand if they feel happy wearing band shirts because of the aesthetic, who am I to ruin it for them. I don't have to agree with everyones choices.

    I was a preteeen/teenager during the mid-1990s at the time when 90's Grunge was at its hight. There is hardcore grunge which is what you are discussing in this video. These were people who were hardcore into the Seattle Grunge scene. Since Grunge was the popular style at the time in the 90s, there was a lot of kids/teens like me that weren't into the Grunge scene but still wanted to look cool at school. So for us kids that weren't into that scene there was what I call softcore Grunge. Softcore Grunge takes the elements of the Grunge look such as layering but without the black outfits and chains. Softcore Grunge includes t-shirts, ribbed turtlenecks, striped short or long sleeved shirts, oversized jeans with holes in them, denim overalls and of course button down flannel shirts. Also softcore grunge includes babydoll dresses, long dresses that button all the way down in the front, and Sunflower print dresses.

    legit everyone in the comments is like "NOT GrunGE!!!111 Back in mY Day, when our Lord ad Savior Kurt Cobain was still with us it was all about being a poor anti-consumerist shithead who only owned two shirts" the newer grunge movement is not the same as the original how is that so hard to understand. Grunge today is about taking elements from the original movement like flannels, distressed clothing, layering, certain types of shoes, a more muted color pallet, etc. and doing something new and different with it for streetwear purposes. There's still a big emphasis on thrifting and wearing individual pieces that are really cheap on their own. You guys act like just because she tucks in her shirt or puts a skirt on that she doesn't understand what grunge is. Does it have things in common with other modern alt fashion like the goth and punk scenes? Or the new e-girl wave? Sure. But all movements that are based on a kind of self expression are going to be influenced by others.

    Faith Hess if it's only got a couple components from grunge it shouldn't be called grunge. If it's a modern interpretation call it that. Just gets annoying when you can't find anything that's genuine because people call any style with ripped jeans and flannels grunge. There is nothing wrong with this style but it should either find it's own label or stick with E-girl.

    just keep in mind that this isnt grunge, it is e-girl/boy, and that grunge is an alternative subculture built off of poverty in the 90’s. and in order to “be grunge” you have to listen to the music, and respect the morals and political opinions that they had in the early 90’s, abd then only then is it the stye

    @@monillabean3470 I don't think you read the entire comment. This person also is talking about how the style isn't accurate to grunge as well as the grunge subculture in general. Also, to truly be grunge you do have to listen to the music and respect the morals as is with many other subcultures in the alternative genre. You can dress grunge but just because you dress grunge doesn't mean you truly are grunge.
