Thank you for posting this video. My wife and I spent 20+ years in a church that used phrases like " what is this passage saying to you" and " that's your interpretation". We have always been hungry to study the word of God but no longer trust what we once thought God's word said. This video, for a couple of old folks who never exceled in grammar, puts in in language that is easy to follow. The hard part will be to remember what a verb and noun look like lol. Again I thank you so much for posting this video.

Read 1 Peter 2:11. I will pray for you and pray for me also, for all things that can lead us astray. We are not immune to temptation and are rather a target if we do not resist the devil so that he will flee from us. Do not give him an opportunity. Remember, fleshly lusts will lead to bondage and wars against your soul.

Let Him work brother, let Him work. in Jesus name let Him work, Amen. And no man is good in the eyes of the Lord for we ALL have fallen seriously short of the glory of the Lord. He just needs a willing heart, and if you are willing, He is abundantly able to deliver you. Stay in the word, read EVERYDAY keep your mind stayed on Jesus. Take captive EVERY thought. He did it for me and still there's more work to do on me. But I'm at least out of that dark, wet, cold and lonely pit and can now see sun. Have faith in God and read the bible...if you can withstand the pull, God will pull you through. And look on KZread for SNSS...Saturday Night Sunday School, every Saturday Night, huge help. Stay prayed up brother, it'll be alright.

I thank God for him and genuine people of God like him who stand on the word of God unapologetically and radically telling it like it is, not sugarcoating it one bit. Thank you, Jesus, for giving us an anointed person like Pastor Voddie in this day and age bold for your word. I pray you bless him abundantly and cover him even more for your kingdom and for us, the Christian church.

This is primary, but not the sole option available to believers. But extensive bible study, research and findings on some commentaries help. Even though the Spirit is the primary teacher, we need to understand that we are not perfect and susceptible to false interpretations, which we may credit to the Holy Spirit.

  • @solideogloria7987

    @solideogloria7987

    2 ай бұрын

That's almost assuming you think God would give you the correct interpretation and no one else. We are flawed people who could miss what is plain in scripture. Others can help us see what we have missed or been wrong about, but scripture must always be examined to see if the interpretation of any passage comes from scripture itself. There are many godly people who may disagree on a certain passage and so we must search out scripture and compare what is said and see if it is so. It would be arrogant to assume every interpretation you have would not be flawed because we are still sinful people until the day we are called home. God does not only give you the Spirit to discern His word. All of His children are guided by Him and therefore we can learn from others what God has revealed in His word.

I’ve been reading/studying the full Bible for a little over a year now (taking a deep dive, so pausing to get deeper understanding [where available] on harder to understand texts, keeping notes that I will follow up on with my Second go around). It never even occurred to me to research “how to study the Bible”. I just went with the method I felt in my spirit. And it’s comforting to know that the approach I took was overwhelmingly validated by this teaching, including: 1. What was the message that the messenger was trying to convey to the audience at that historical time? 2. How do other Bible translations phrase this particular passage (particularly for harder to understand passages, but also, for some easily understood, popular passages as I’m finding that some translations don’t do the passage’s meaning justice)? 3. Using electronic devices (apps, search engines, etc.) to navigate between different Bible translations and/or studying tools. Makes this sooooo much easier to navigate. 4. Focusing on the context (historical, levitical law vs Christian expectation, figure of speech and how it was commonly understood by those in audience, properly defining the terminology that was used in Hebrew or Greek at the time vs what that same word has morphed to mean in modern society, etc.) in order to properly interpret the text. This is _VERY_ important. I learned how many of very popular known scriptures or biblical sayings have been taken completely out of context in their common, modern day use. One example that comes to mind is “don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing”. I often hear this said, in the context of “don’t let everyone know your plans or have them in your business. Keep these things to yourself.” I don’t know that there’s anything innately wrong with using this figure of speech in this context, but it’s very clearly NOT the context Jesus used when He said it. Jesus said this in the context of doing/giving charity, specifically to let his followers understand that when they give, and then boast about it, they are receiving their reward/recognition from man, and not from God. Give in secrecy, between you and God if you expect it to be counted (and rewarded) by God. This encouraged me, in confirming that I am indeed on the right track with my studying. Thanks for sharing❣️

Always encouraging to hear a Believer devouring the Word. Been studying Scripture for 61 years, and this verse has been my guide: (1John 2:27) But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: *_but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him._*

@@User_at_777 Thank you for this encouraging word! This spoke to me more than you could imagine. I was raised in church, but fell away briefly in my early 20s, after being disappointed when God failed to “move” in a way that I thought He was “supposed” to move. After reconciling with Him, I came to understand that I had never known God, had never read or studied the Word for myself (outside of what we covered in Bible study or church) and as a result, I had misconceptions/false expectations about how God moved (not necessarily due to bad doctrine, more so due to a lack of understanding how to rightly apply good doctrine to my life) and a false sense of righteousness. My relationship had been with _church_ and not _God._ This was the beginning of me forming a relationship with _Him._ At this point, I started reading segments of the Bible, but generally, as a reference, to put in my remembrance scripture that would convict me of things I struggled with, (unforgiveness, etc). God put it in my heart not just to read the verse of the scripture I needed, but the entire chapter, so that I’m reading it in its full context. This is what helped me begin my new walk with Christ. I’ve always been a deep thinker and would ponder about life, have “epiphanies”, and come up with deep, well-thought out sayings or perspectives on life. Things to live by. After reconciling back to God, I would have these occasional “epiphanies”, let’s say on a Wednesday. By Saturday night or even Sunday morning, I’d have an inexplicable strong urging to go to church that Sunday. I’d get there, and lo and behold, the pastor, in preaching his message, would have us turn to a verse that would turn out to be the same “epiphany” I’d had! This happened repeatedly - where I’d have some “epiphany” of some universal truth, then go to church only to discover that my “epiphany” was actually scripture that I had no idea existed. And this is how I begin to know that God was real, the Holy Spirit was speaking to me, and that the Bible truly is the Living Word of God. The scripture you listed, affirms how I came to know Christ. May you and your whole household be blessed. 💞

ETERNAL LIFE DEFINED: "John 17:1-3 ... Father, ... And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent." 1) The TRUTH for SALVATION/ETERNAL LIFE in the KINGDOM OF GOD as TAUGHT and REVEALED by the LORD JESUS CHRIST/SON OF GOD is so EASY to UNDERSTAND as easy as finding the accurate sum of a one digit mathematical equation as simple as 1+1=2: 1 FATHER/SENDER + 1 SON/SENT = 2 EXISTING BEINGS - The FATHER/SENDER is the ONLY TRUE GOD; therefore, the SON/JESUS CHRIST/SENT IS NOT GOD; otherwise, he's a false god/god the son, god the Word, mighty god, creator god, father god, man god/false Christs (Matt. 24:24). 2) However, the preachers in the world chose the idiotic 1+1+1=1 or 1+1=1 for their god and Christ which originated from the idiot god of this world that blinded the world (2Cor. 4:4) -- Babylon of confusions and divisions from the ancient (Gen. 10:8-10, 11:1-9)/Babylonian tree (Dan. 4)/cursed tree (+) of the world (Acts 10:39, 13:29, Gal. 3:13) -- destined/prophesied to END -- END OF THE WORLD IN HELL FIRE (Matt. 13:38-40). 3) World! be WARNED!!!

The GOSPEL commences in KNOWING the ONLY TRUE GOD/FATHER (John 17:1-3)/HOLY GHOST (Matt. 1:18)/SPIRIT (John 4:24) AND the TRUE JESUS CHRIST/SON OF GOD (Matt. 1:18, Mark 1:1, John 10:36, 17:1-3)/MAN (John 8:40)/FLESH AND BONES (Luke 24:39) ARE TWO EXISTING BEING of different NATURES of EXISTENCE. LOGIC 1: The FATHER is the ONLY TRUE GOD (John 17:1-3). Therefore, the SON/JESUS CHRIST IS NOT GOD; otherwise, he's a false god/god the son, god the Word, mighty god, creator god, father god, man god/false Christs (Matt. 24:24). LOGIC 2: PREMISES: GOD is a SPIRIT (John 4:24); A spirit has no flesh and bones (Luke 24:39); JESUS CHRIST has flesh and bones (Luke 24:39). CONCLUSION: Therefore, JESUS CHRIST IS NOT GOD.

I was never notified of your post; just read it now. Yes the Spirit of the Lord desires to be our teacher. Only God knows our personal capabilities, obstacles and requirements for learning. I regret all the decades I just sat and listened to those "so much wiser than I", seminary trained and all. But those institutions (and churches) have donors that they cater and answer to -- in the case of Dallas Theological Seminary, one of their main ones are Kabbalists, therefore they teach an Old Covenant Jewish rebuilt Temple and nation will have exclusivity with God again and will rule over the earth. Nothing of the sort in Scripture. It's so rare to find someone interested in the meat, and not just content with the milk. I pray you never lose your enthusiasm, and will only grow exponentially in wisdom from the Lord. Yours in Christ...

I love Voddie Baucham's teachings of the Bible. He is a man of God. I trust him to tell the truth. I have been thinking of getting a factual study Bible, but I feel that there is so much wisdom in God's word, in the Holy Bible. I want the Word to speak to me, and it has. I have problems with knowing the months, maps, and money exchanges, that they used in the days of Christ. I prefer the Kings James Bible, and realized that one of my Bible's has more information like that, in the back pages. I feel I need a workbook, that has tests, I feel one of those workbooks will test what I am retaining, so I can go back and reread what I failed to absorb. Thank you Voddie, for your messages, I always learn something from your knowledge.

I feel the need to comment on this video. First, I’m reformed Baptist, at least for the most part 😂. I can’t help but think the vast majority of people would benefit from the niv or NLT for primary Bible reading/devotional reading etc. The disciples were unschooled and ordinary men, like most of us. Try explaining this study technique to a man with dirt floors. The scholar and serious Bible student like voddie (who also knows Greek and Hebrew) love the literal translations like esv and nasb. I’m thankful for knowledgeable men like voddie, however, all English translations tell you Jesus died for your sins and raised from the dead 3 days later. They all tell you that love fulfills the law. I spent most of my childhood with an nasb that I never read because I couldn’t understand it. I only toted it because it was “the most accurate”. Someone handed me an niv a few years back and I can’t put it down. It changed my spiritual life. I’ve read it hard cover to cover and understood the gospel it seemed for the first time. Sure there’s nuance in the nasb that you don’t get in the niv, but I was missing the main idea reading the nas! No harm intended toward voddie. Love his ministry and maybe the literal translation is best for his church. God bless all!

Bro I love this lesson, and the simplicity and clarity of your explanations. The only thing if I may push lightly on is your assumption that if you see something that others haven't it's automatically wrong. I do agree with the caution of believing something that EVERYONE missed, but I also can't help but notice the whole Protestant Reformation is built on that premise, along with the Messiah that showes up and the current theological view of the day that was in contradiction. Just wanted to hear your thoughts on how to bring this thought gap from real truth and possibly biblical error?

At 37:02 Pastor Voddie mentions that he didn't have time to show how he breaks down verses by sentence diagrams. @hillview Baptist church can there be a sermon where Pastor Voddie literally shows us how he does this? I think it would be greatly beneficial.

Do you have a video that shows your written Bible study examples? How you diagram outside your Bible and also how you mark the scripture so that when you go back later it is always the same recognizable system? Like your color system, the way you mark parts of speech etc.

I like the two village example. Often there are more than two though of you are reading a translation. The original text is written to a village, once you have a translation you introduce another village. Sound principles introduced.

Right! The Holy Spirit is the most important part of understanding scripture. He will guide us to the Truth (and the Way and the Life).

I gain so much knowledge, understanding, and wisdom from God delivered through Voddie. I love listening to him and I love the fact that he never puts the focus on him, but rather on God. I used to listen to John MacArthur a lot, but since he excommunicated Eileen Gray from Grace Community Church publicly for not staying with her husband David Gray who was abusing her children (and he's now sitting in prison of whom John MacArthur still supports) I cannot listen to him any longer. I'm so glad that Voddie does not appear to have any skeletons/scandals. I'm going to have to go back and study what are verbs, pronouns, etc. It's been a long time since I was in school and I forget all the grammar rules 😂

Billy Graham has written a book on How to Study the Bible, when he was young. I came by a copy when I was young. That little book was a treasure, lost in all my moving- . I am curious if your teaching is influenced by Graham since you are Baptist also. I love Bible study, it's the only thing worth putting in my head. Thank you Voddie for your unique way of sharing the knowledge, understanding and love of God.

As a reformed Baptist, Voddie probably gets very little influence from Graham. However, I’m sure he respected him as an evangelist and brother in Christ

I found myself buying a whole bunch of Bibles. I then realized that that I wasn't studying them. When I did study them, I was not looking at God's word so much. I wanted to sound smart more than I wanted to experience God. So, I gave a number of them away. I thought about which ones were the best in asking me questions. Answering those questions seemed to make me think. Sometimes the Spirit could come into my answers. One was a topical Bible, ehich can be found on the internet. It's much better in print. And I have a little text only NASB. It is God's Word and no interuptions.

My hardest hurdle to studying is how much and what to study in a methodical manner. For example, do I just pick a book and start with a few verses at a time? Do I try and study the book as a whole? Do I just take a few verses, cross reference them with other parts of the Bible and historical writings? I find my self just reading from the beginning of the NT then to the OT and then back through the NT and then the OT over and over again, which is great but I haven't learned how to learn more efficiently and I'd like to take my knowledge to the next level. I have such a love for reading the Word but I want to bathe in it not just dip my hand in if that makes sense.
