How To Strum & Sing - Dream A Little Dream of Me - Course Day 2 of 4

Today we continue the “how to strum and sing” challenge; a course for ukulele. It can be very overwhelming to try to play a song you enjoy, keep the strumming hand steady, AND add the singing on top of that.
In this video (day 2 of 4) we will review line 1 and master line 2 of the song Dream A Little Dream of Me. We will take a VERY SLOW approach so that I can show you how to break down ANY SONG.
PLEASE pay very close attention to the alignment of chords and lyrics. This is the most crucial part of learning how to strum and sing. If you can align the strum with the lyrics, you've done the most challenging part!

I love the repetition, it's good to see how much we should be breaking the song down and repeating parts to learn it. It makes me feel like I'm not too slow at learning

Repetition is how I actually learn and understand better . Without repetition , I probably wouldn't be able to play . Thank you for the hard work. Appreciate it . Your background looks really warm and comfy .

ya most tutorials leave out the reps, its gives a person a unreal expectation. I also play violin and a world class violinist posts videos of herself practising; its repetition and practicing basic skills even at her level.

Great tutorial as ever, thanks for sharing. As for "repetition", Repeat, Repeat and then Repeat. Repetition makes reputation and the Maestro has failed more times than the pupil has tried. Love and respect.

I love the repetition, it's so much more helpful than having to constantly rewind the video to catch what I missed or practice with it. I always practice with my concert or soprano but my baritone has my heart right now

Thank you for breaking it down like this. Much easier to digest, especially for chord switches that aren't straightforward. I even managed to do the slightly fancier strumming pattern suggested, so I'm very chuffed with myself tonight seeing up until now I've only managed down strums! This has made me very happy as I was starting to think I'd never be able to do anything else! Looking forward to putting it all together!

Wonderful song and a much needed lesson. As always you break it down and make it as easy and fun as possible! I know I struggled a long time to be able to sing and strum at the same time and playing is just so much more fun then! I' watched tutorials on singing and strumming from other creators, I can say right now yours is the best👏👏👏

literally paused the video where you said to tell you if it's too repetitive because sometimes it feels a bit repetitive, yes but ultimately I am happier for it. It means that I have nailed it and can even sometimes play along with your demo sections and it makes me feel confident in myself! It's great, I think it is super important :)

I am new to the ukelele world and had definitely been feeling a little defeated and frustrated that I didn’t seem to be getting it. I came upon your videos and have really been enjoying them, still not great but have definitely seen progress. Initially was feeling like why all the repetition but now I’m thankful for it and the little cues in other videos like “look up” are actually really nice.

Hi, I love more in-depth strumming and singing lessons! I have question when you transition from one line to another, when you should start singing the next line. With the end of the previous line chord? Since sometimes the new line doesn’t start with any chords first. Also, sometimes the words are between chords/strumming before and after, does that mean you should cover all the words in the pause between chords? I don’t know if that makes sense but a good example is “Summertime” verses. Thanks!

I usually hold the first chord and pick one string at a time. I try to sing the song in the note of the string I just picked. I’ll do this until one of them sounds right. Would you like me to make a video explanation? ❤️
