I spent many many days stripping wire with a sharp knife as a kid in an old scrap yard. The sale price is huge compared with leaving the insulation on. Burning it off produces a less valuable oxidised copper. Wish we had one of these machines back then. Unless you have done this job by hand, in the rain, or extreme cold of an outdoor yard in winter, you can’t really understand how useful this contraption is.

Very nice contraption. Have you ever considered adding a roller bar on the back end to attach the shielding too as its stripped. That way it completes the entire stripping operation in 1 motion and you dont have to go back later to separate it. Instead of having the 15' lengths you could have much longer lenghs and the roller would wrap up all the shielding leaving the wire in a pile on the table.

You have to account for the loss of insulation usually around 10% and your time. With the proper equipment and proper handling it can definitely be worth it. You need a saftey bar on the front of that. I made one goes 187 ft. min. Hyd. take up spools. Lay them out and run full lenth. I had different heads for each wire you could clamp them on and stuff them in ass soon as the last head fell off. Then tie the wire and insulation and let them coil. Collapsible spools on coiler. Used hydrostatic drive easy speed control with rev. and tied saftey bar to drive. I can do 4 layer CATV cable. Coiling 4 things at once at 187 ft. per min. The heads had guide rollers to straighten the wire before it hit the cutting wheel. Used pipe cutting wheels. and mini roller bearings on the wheel below the cutting wheel. The kind out of a 8 in. hand grinder. It would be hard to change that one but if you bend it thru the rollers it will force the outer layers off. Joe Schroeder Iron Man Metals.

@@ProjectShopFl Pics will not be easy. find me on facebook and message? Joe Schroeder WI USA. Just get a Hydro out of a big lawn tractor. You can not distory them. On that machine Looks like a couple spockets on the yellow shaft. to match the hydo rear end replace wheels with sprockets. It is a simple froward rev. lever. Tie in a safety bar. I had mine set so it would not break the skin on a banana. Yes I used banana for testing. I could not get any volunteers to stick fingers in there. LOL The control slid on a saw tooth rack big knotch for nutrual. So you could set speed. and the safety could pop it out of the notches and kick it back sometimes even to rev. I it works quite well. Trusth me I ran for many years on the same trans that I got cheap it went thru a fire and still was the heart of my shop for years. Mine came out of a bolens. For a take up spools I just copied the ones they use when they sell you wire by the foot. A hydro power supply and motor. A simple switch and solenoid valve to control it from stripper. My switch controled 4 spoolers at once. I just tie the wire and insulation. There is still a spin problem when running long stranded wires. I never completely over came the spin. I ran mostly CATV Back then solid copper center conductor and some even had copper jacket. I got it all for free they were burying it. If you want to run a lot of CATV I wll have to talk to you about the "egg" factor and created static charge. a lot more involved when going for 4 layers. The blade had to hit the center wire. I ran up inch and a half CATV cable. 2.5 oz a foot of just alum jacket at 187 a min. do that math! Then add in the center conductor. half an oz a foot. I got t boned by a stop sign runner and got paralyzed

Do you run adds and people sell to you, or is it just you have been doing so long you have good contacts. You must run the mileage up in your truck going back and forth to place's. I set a daily weight limit of 480 lbs and set a tote on a scale so they can monitor their progress. I give them a tote of 12 gauge wire and leave the big 3.oo out side. The best part is about an hour before quitting time you see them running across the parking lot with arm loads of big wire trying to make weight.
