This is maybe the greatest achievement and realisation any individual on earth can make. It’s so rare and unique, which is why only person so far has been able to teach us how to stop thinking. Thank you life for dedicating your whole life to truth in the body once called Barry Long. We are forever indebted.

I recommend "barry long's start meditating now: how to stop thinking part 1 ". (In fact this audio is a part 2 to that mediation tape) it's incredibly intelligent, profound and helpful and explains things gives meditation steps that other teachers haven't mentioned or explained Hope that helps 🙏👍

I've heard or read somewhere that these are recordings оf different years. Yes, indeed they were put together when both were sold together on tape. They are different in spirit, it is noticeable, and recorded in different conditions. The previous part ("Start meditating now") is generally softer in content, clearer in the method of meditation, but the second ("How to stop thinking") is cooler and, perhaps, more effective, despite the lack of a method as such.

This is very powerful. But I think that you need to do some work before this level. Otherwise you will not be able to merge into this reality. I recommend reading of the book Leting go by David R. Hawkins and The Power of now by Eckhart Tolle. We have lots of emotions stored in our body and first you have to be present, then listen to those feelings and observe them closely without wanting to change them, without labeling them, without judging them. You just have to be there for each feeling that arrises, feel it and observe. The energy behind the feeling will fade away and the feeling will take its course. But as we have trauma and lots of feelings stored there, this is an exercise that must be performed every time. With practice, each trigger that make a feeling arrise will be noticed and your self knowledge will increase. When you "clean" your system of most trapped emotions, it will become easier to identify a feeling and surrender it before it can generate any thought. Doing so your mind will ramais clear with no thoughts and those few that arrise will not disturb your peace.

You can only think about either the past or the future. If you think about the past, you will only be regretful or you will miss it. If you think about the future, you can only worry or set yourself up for disappointment

Clarity, contentedness and a deepr appreciation of feelings and emotions. The idea is not that you stop thinking completely, its that you stop all of the primitive and evolutionary reactions and emotions to certain thoughts; these reactions are no longer benefitial in the world we live in, and it winds up doing (considerably) more harm than good to you both physically and mentally. Think of it like this: our fight or flight system was designed to be used only in a short burst of time. In the past our cortisol levels would spike so we could be more aware and out run the lion. Hours later it would re-balance to baseline. In todays world people live in the fight or flight response for periods of years at a time. What was once triggered by a dangerous predator is now triggered by debt, bills, things you've sen on social media, etc.

Many of us would like some peace of mind. The problem is for most is that you cannot control a certain continuous train of thoughts. These can be negative.

Hi Mr. Long. Thanks for putting this on the internet for free. To be fair I bought the audio cassette of this in around 1990 so I probably deserve a new copy. What might interest people is that it took ChatGPT to remember who you were and how to find this. I could only remember "This is Peter Strong talking..." 😂 No offence. I remembered you because my wife started playing Eckhart Tolle tapes at night. I'm sure you have plenty risen above it but if that's not plagiarism I don't know what is! All the best! 😊

It’s not weird, it’s just shows how tired you are of incessant thinking. People don’t know how tired they are because they never tried stopping thinking, hence when trying it they fall asleep. After some months/years of doing this you won’t fall asleep, you’ll instead be rejuvenated and become more present and more still. This stillness is pure energetic consciousness, or intelligence. You’re in the process of becoming more intelligent, but in that process, your habitual mind must end.
