My takeaway - whatever type of pen (water or alcohol based) you use to outline, use the opposite to color!

This was sensational! This problem continuously vexes me and I have ruined many an artwork. I have written down the pens I use most often and which kind of marker they are smear-proof with although to be sure, I will test them on my own paper first. It makes so much difference understanding WHY things smear and so I can now have a good idea which new pens to try for which kinds of projects. Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou!

Great takeaway!
Thank you for this video. To sum it up outline watercoloured images with alcohol or oil based markers or if the piece has been coloured with alcohol colours outline with a waterbased pen. I think that's right. Now to remember that rule.

Hi!! I am so enjoying all of your channels. I am super new to all artistic endeavors in general so you may have already covered this in another previous video. I am looking to find some general instructions on how to do 'fluffy' (plus size) women or even fairies mix media style. Have you covered that in a previous video that you could direct me to? I am just returning to good health after a 7 year long battle for my mental and physical health. My doctor actually suggested art therapy...so..that's how I found you. Thank you!

This is very helpful. I’m new to alcohol markers. The inks I have used with watercolor has been smearing some. This saves me having to buy a bunch of different pens to try out. Thanks!

Would you say the smearing could also be avoided regardless of which fineliner, if you did the outlining after you put the pigment down?

I use my Pentel Pocket Brush pen about 99% of the time and I do it at the end so no smearing!
My biggest takeaway was the inclusion of the Bic pen.

I have a crazy question ... I have tons of Acrylic paint, a lot of them are gloss ... ..??? is there a way to make gloss Acrylic paint into Matte finish ... thank you

Mix it with matte medium or matte gel, that should do it!
