Hey intresting mechanism. I dont take lemon because i have GERD. But I as I do my tourettic rituals (i dont think i still have tourettes right now, i think they're gone, panic attack takes place now) through yawning such that my face is like yours on that video, I also feel better after. However mine occurs simultaneously due to any stimuli, when I think about them there's no undo in the panicking.

I can’t even be calm at home alone. I can’t watch a movie because right after I wake up after I open my eyes anxiety kicks in. It changed my personality overtime and can’t come out of it. I don’t feel safe nowhere. Now this lemon trick helps a bit but I don’t know for how long. I tried i would say close to a 1000 things to fight my anxiety and after a little while all failed. I drink pure lemon since 2-3 days and it looks like its working but who knows how long. Living like this is a disaster. I hate my life since this is in me. Almost 10 years now.

Focus on breath draws you into the present and temporarily relieves depression and anxiety. Thanks for this!!!! The first step to healing is wanting to heal. ❤

It's useful for very mild, minor "panic attacks". Any actual severe panic attacks won't be helped by this. When you're in excruciating, agonizing distress, taking a sip of lemon juice isn't going to erase that. Simply distracting yourself is not enough for someone going through a severe panic attack.

@@janeausten6419 it makes no sense what helped me but it did...one day I was driving and had to go over that pesky swing bridge to get out of my city and I had an orange in my truck. As I was starting to drive over it I thought I will peel my orange to keep my mind occupied on something else...and it worked. So from that moment on I would always drive with an orange in my truck until one day, I didn't need that orange anymore. When it comes to bridges I am completely fine now, however movie theaters, music concerts or anywhere there are a tonne of people is a different story. I have to be able to have an unimpeded escape route. That's why I had panic attacks going over bridges. I was afraid my truck would break down (am I spelling break right? Or is it brake?) and you're not allowed to stop on bridges, I would cause a pile up of vehicles on the bridge, knowing my luck a boat would need to come under at that time and because of my broken down truck the boat wouldn't be able to go under because the bridge wouldn't be able to swing. Oh and then what if there's an earthquake......MY MIND WOULD GO OFF!!! However an orange kept me from thinking those thoughts for those minutes I drove over that bridge and others. I wish you all the best my friend. You've got this. It's just your mind and you can control that. Best of luck and lots of love!

Don't tell yourself to "calm down" because it draws more attention to your panic and thus makes it worse. Don't try to control your anxiety. Rather, be curious about it. Whenever I feel anxious, I immediately say to myself "OK, I am feeling anxious" or "I acknowledge that I am feeling anxious." - don't try to ignore it or run away from it. Then, remind yourself that anxiety is just a feeling, and it's okay to feel it. "It is OK to feel anxious." Because it is! It is okay to feel anxious. It is okay to feel panicked. After that, incorporate some breathing and grounding techniques. I like to do box breathing and the classic name 3 things that you see, hear, and feel. I would highly recommend being prayerful as well if you are spiritual. It ultimately comes down to making peace with your anxiety, which sounds crazy, but there is no such thing as bad without good. It takes time and practice. Remember also to listen to your body and be mindful of its needs.

It's both. It's the whole thing-focusing on any kind of intense or unusual stimulus will help to ground you and bring you back to "reality." It's an old CBT technique. You can let a Hershey's kiss dissolve on your tongue, hold an ice cube in your hand as it melts, splash your face with icy cold water (although that one actually has a physiological explanation as well).

Yesterday, my best friend called me in the middle of the night and she was alone while having a panic attack. It was terrifying but thank god it passed and she is fine after that. I was calm and while talking to her I was searching on google to know how to help her in this situation. This was one of my scariest thing ever happened to me she was hardly breathing and can’t talk and I couldn’t know if she was crying or laughing. Living alone and a panic attack happen I think the most terrifying thing could happen.

Hey for all you people who have panic attacks, like me, you might understand that this doesn't work for you because when you have a panic attack you can't think straight and fully cut a lemon and do this. Something that has helped me is to always have hand sanitizer on you, get a scent you want and put some on your hands when you have your panic attack and sniff it and really focus on the scent!! ❤

The only way to get rid of panic attacks is to read up and understand what they are and know they can't harm you so you sit and hold yourself till they go keep saying to yourself out loud it will not last long and I'll be ok . Eventual youl train your brain .I used to get nocturnal panick attacks because I was stopping breathing my body injected noradrenalin into my body to wake me up now they are scary but it cured it eventually .

Because my arm was in a significant amount of pain. Not saying go hurt yourself, saying that this is similar because it takes your mind off of something that might be eating you up.
