Thanks for the pointers mason. I put in 4 different smaller additions on my house this fall & your tips helped a lot on the block lying. Now I'm getting ready for the stone veneer coming up this spring in a month or 2.
Great job. Thanks for posting all your videos. You are encouraging people to get out there and get their hands dirty. There is a lot of satisfaction in that.
The method you’re using is called laying courses and historically that’s the correct way to do it!!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Looks great and you make it look simple.

Thanks, Mason. This is another one of your videos I'll need in a few months when I begin applying the natural stone onto my concrete block walls.

Awesome video!! Can’t wait to see how you point it up . We use a bag . I work for my Dad and he will be yelling at me if I leave long joints , he always wants me to follow the old rules of laying real stone. It’s hard to follow the old rules with fake stone .

I don’t know the old rules. I think everyone has their own style. It’s personal preference
Looks awesome. Not at all like they did on my house!
So beautiful.
Thank you for this video. What's that bonding liquid you've brushed behind the stone?
Good video. It's definitely not rocket science, but this is labor intensive, and that's why I happily hired a crew. They were awesome and worth every penny.

Great video. I want to put stone on my brick foundation. Would I do the same thing? Thanks
Amazing work man, can you. Please share what the stone is, product name and where I can purchase it. Thanks
Thanks Mason. Can you tell us about the stone you used in this video? Manufacture/Color Name/Supplier? Thanks!
Hi Mason , I'm applying real sandstone to my foundation . How much wait time between applying the stone and starting the grout..Thanks..
watching your video ,I am a self doer and was wondering what was the purpose of using the adhesive to the back of the stone, ? I bought a bag product for a stone veneer and the guy told me to just add water and mix , Liked your video thanks
Beautiful work Mason..Where are you located..I am looking for flagstone to add to my home in south Florida...Are you local>?

I’m in Pennsylvania. How big of a project is it?
You really don't need the bonding agents, you should wet the stone and wall before applying to get a good bond.
What is the name of the ready-made cement you use to install these stones? Is there a stronger one if the stone is heavier? I'm going to make a fireplace and it has some big, heavy pieces and I don't know how to glue these stones together so they don't come loose. Recommend me a good cement for this, please. TY

I use quikcrete stone veneer mortar. I mix it heavy with bonding agent. The stone will stick. You have to start from the bottom and go up and you have to shim the rocks in place
@alexsandrolk7
14 күн бұрын
@@masonthemason6412 But the stones are at a distance from each other, perhaps half an inch. Is this cement safe? Do the pieces not come loose? Don't move? My fear is that the pieces won't stick together and won't stay in position. There are several pieces in various sizes. There are big and heavy ones. And what tool do I use to make scratches on the wall? Can I use the same cement to make the scratches? And which tool?
Do you not add any sand to your mix?
What type of ready mix mortar was tht? It looked like the 5000 psi concrete mix bags

Stone veneer mortar
I wish someone would put up a video on stone veneering inside corners! Should I miter them, alternate which ones I cut weave like? Ugh I’m stressing
@masonthemason6412

Alternate them. I usually switch every course or two
Is this application of mortar also for states with cold weather? I do a lot of veneer stone in Florida but application is probably different. I have a house to do in NJ in a couple of months

Quick question brother for a inside chimney with sheet rock can I scratch coat right over the sheet rock or do I need to put up hardy board ?
@masonthemason6412
Жыл бұрын
I would rip the sheet rock down. I’d be worried about it falling off with the weight of the stone
@juniorguerra6485

Add lath over the sheet rock
@davegordon6943
Жыл бұрын
Yeah that's allot of weight to hang off of sheetrock
@juniorguerra6485
Жыл бұрын
@@davegordon6943 Maybe if you just glued onto the dry wall it'd be a problem. For it to work you would do the scratch coat onto the lath on top of drywall which would harden into the shape of the fire place and also you screw or staple into the studs that are behind the drywall holding it up. Have done thousands of fire places on custom built homes never been a problem. It would be a waste of time and money to remove sheet Rock
I would totally hire you. Contractor here.

Is there much difference in mortars if you used a real field stone instead of the man made stuff? Looks good! Thanks for the videos.

He uses a bonding primer but you can also use a polymer modified mortar. The polymer makes it stickier and less prone to sag.

As you’re saying you split it every 3 stone you have a straight horizontal joint all the way across the chimney right in front of you haha
good job, only negative comment is to wear a mask while mixing... you don't want the dust in your lungs
