    He’s absolutely right about 1st gear. If you ever do this, DO NOT go down in anything more than 1st gear. You are asking for trouble if you do. This road is extremely narrow and you have 0 room for error. If you go slow and stay focused on in front of you at all times, you will be ok.

    Loved this Video, great tips. Brought My Autistic Son this past Saturday May 18th 2024. I have an older Jetta and knew not to push my tranny. Knew that air intake issues would push my car down fast. Cant tell you how many meatheads rode their brakes all the way down and in High Gear

    Your comment is very reassuring I’m doing it this weekend and was thinking, what am I getting myself into! I can manage it just fine, but In a mountain, let’s say that a little nervosity made me think that not only my motorcycle heat will go up ! Lol 😁

    @@coverreault Now that the last gravel section is paved it really does make a huge difference for motorcyclists getting up and down the mountain. Take your time, be safe and enjoy the scenery without taking your eyes off the road of course. 😁

    Big John In the early seventies when I was stationed at Pease Air Force Base I bought a Kawasaki 3 cylinder 2stroke. I did that ride and all I remember is almost not being able to stop from brake fade going down. I can’t imagine taking my 1,000. Lb Harley up and down. Not sure at my age I have the sack to try. Thanks for the memories

    They usually have Bikes only days during Bike Week. I think Monday and definitely Thursday. You don't have to deal with the cars. The vans still run, looks like they didn't do that this year.

    We drove up and down Mt. Washington this summer. It was very foggy and visibility at times was under 20 ft. It was absolutely amazing and terrifying at the same time because of the drops literally right next to you when you can’t see. I was shitting myself and driving at slow as possible.

    Years ago probably 20% wasn't paved hahaha a real challenge, I love Mt Washington. I've also climbed Mt. Mitchell in NC off the Blue Ridge and Pike's Peak in Colorado. Those are my 3 favorite mountain's

    Down to me is way easier than up. The reason for the unpaved section is melting snow washes it out yearly..used to be paved.

    I liked alternating front only and then rear only etc I only ruined my brakes once I wasn't getting it restarted so I rode in neutral and front brakes last mile game over fortunately my rear was able to get me home

    Yea. Riding/driving up to Mt Washington summit is really not good for your bikes/vehicles brakes and trans.

    What? I went up and down 30 years ago - and hauled ass both ways, waiting for no one. 1982 Suzuki GS 1100E with triple discs handled it perfectly well. 1st gear? Pansies.

    I think my wife would be fine on the back of my bike on the way up but if I remember correctly the trip down was a little scarier. What was your experience? Did your engine get hot on the way up or down? Did anyone of you think to check your oil temp?

    Don't ride your back brake on a steep long down hill ride, it boils the fluid and the brake gives out, don't ask how I know!
