I appreciate the comment about getting a utility knife. Everyone of these KZread videos seem to think I should get $200.00 worth of tools before I learn to make a single thing.

A utility knife works very well especially for a beginner that may not continue to carve. It does a nice job for next to nothing.
This channel is excellent Jeff. I probably will never get into wood carving, but I do find it interesting, and the way you present things is always calm, relaxed and well thought out. Keep the great content coming!

Tack you for the tips i got in to wood carving a few weeks ago and it,s really fun. But these tips have helped me.
I see you have a box of Cheez-Its. What flavor do you recommend for a new carver just starting out?
Hi Jeff, I was looking for a video to enforce my views on starting cheap, this is perfect! I do wonder, since you use the 'V' tool pulling toward yourself, if you have ever tried a 'V' tool scorp? I've not tried a 'v' tool scorp, but love a wide shallow Flexcut scorp for shallow spoons and the action is much like using a kniife.

If you cut the end grain and it's nice and shiny your knife is sharp
