    @@LivinLargewithLCruu Yeah I mean its a nintendo product you can do that with apple also if you leave a 30$ profit. It flips on ebay for 70 for parts. I think its fine to just accept if your an entertainer on youtube who also sells products to their audience. Most people aren't dumb they aren't all buying expecting to make a business out of it and if they are well that's their own fault.

    Nicely done! This is the kind of content that needs to happen more often, educational AND entertaining! You have no idea how helpful your video is for someone like me (a wannabe seller with a death pile but zero patience for the time and dedication to be meticulous with ebay's demands). Hairy, thank you for this video. I just had my very first Whatnot stream last Saturday? And it was awesome. I had so much fun. And the nervousness I felt right before it started went away just as fast. The people who came in were nice and helpful. They wanted to buy things. I even got raided 3/4 of the way through the show, which I thought was crazy and would never happen to me. So whoever thinks they can't do this, please know that you can, don't wait until you have what you think you need all this stuff just to get started, just do it. Thanks Hairy.

    That was great!!! I love how you constantly contradict the naysayers. The first series I watched from you was making $1000 in a month starting from picking up the golf bag by the side of the road for free. You showed people it can be done. You also showed people that they CAN buy a cheap house without costing and an arm and a leg. In the meantime, others sit and moan and complain that the system is against us here in the states. It is so much more interesting to watch people who are doing it and share how they did it. Thanks! I'm not even a reseller!

    @beckypetersen2680 Hello Becky. Reading your comment brought back a lot of memories from a few years ago. I don't think it was the first video of his that I watched as I've followed him for several years, even before Hayley joined the business. If I remember correctly the show you are speaking of was a challenge he issued to himself to prove to people that even someone that didn't have any followers could make a $1,000 in a month. And yes, he started his 'new' business with that golf bag. Sold it then reinvested the money he received and purchased a few more items. He is able to contradict his naysayers because he is and always has been, completely honest. Even when he makes a mistake. This means that people can 'make up' some complaint or argument. He is able to 'shoot them down' because what they are saying is nothing but a bunch of hot air. They have nothing to back up what they are saying.

    No hate to Josh, love the videos, but this one was a miss. I don't think anyone ever said that being successful on Whatnot is "luck" - the criticism is usually that you became successful (again, not "lucky") on Whatnot so quickly because you came onto the platform with an already established following and were able to advertise your shows to hundreds of thousands of people. It wasn't "luck" that you sold that Game Boy - it was nothing more than a reseller seeing an opportunity to buy something at 50% off what it regularly sells for, fix it, and quadruple their investment. Anyone could have done this, and your argument that it would have been more work to sell it on eBay isn't really valid because an item like this would have sold for $30 with a single photo, a title that said "broken game boy advance sp" and literally nothing else filled out on the listing. It still remains difficult to sell items that aren't in demand (like your Game Boy is) for enough money on a consistent enough basis to be considered "successful" on Whatnot, and that's the main way you guys make money on there. If you sell on Whatnot solely to sell items to resellers, with a business model that allows you to sell them for so low that the buyer can still profit, then that's one way to get started, but I don't think that's what you were trying to show with this video. To truly show that "anyone can be successful on Whatnot" you would have to do some kind of long-term experiment where you took someone with no previous Whatnot/KZread experience (I say this because people that are already comfortable on camera will always have an easier time with this, and the vast majority of resellers aren't as comfortable), start them with a new account, and have them try and sell the things you guys regularly sell - clothing, plush, toys, some sporting goods, etc. It would be difficult for them to gain enough footing on the platform to use it as a significant income stream, and I don't think they'd ever be able to get to the level you're at. Some will succeed, but it's a tough go. I'd love to be proved wrong - a video experiment showing this would do great on KZread but I don't know how feasible it is.

  • @HairyTornado

    @HairyTornado

    2 ай бұрын

    The word “luck” is just used in the title because I’ve seen other popular KZread videos use it when doing stuff like this. It’s just for SEO purposes. I get what you’re saying. I’m also 100% confident that if I did this experiment over the course of 30 or 45 or 60 days that I would be successful, but do you really think anyone that isn’t convinced now would be convinced then? I could start 10 different secret Whatnot accounts and grow all of them simultaneously and people would still doubt my results or credit my results to something that they themselves don’t possess or have the ability to do. Whether or not people choose to sell on whatnot has no effect on me. Im just trying to encourage people to give it a shot, because they might have what it takes to make it. I think we also need to remember that I’m not asking people to make some huge sacrifice or give me a bunch of money. Just try it and see what happens. Worst case scenario is that you don’t sell anything and then you just go back to eBay or wherever else you want to sell. Thanks for the comment.

  • @JurassicMatt

    @JurassicMatt

    2 ай бұрын

    @@HairyTornado "but do you really think anyone that isn’t convinced now would be convinced then?" Yes, if you truly "started over from scratch" (so to speak), people would be more convinced than what was shown in this video. But to do so, you'd have to get an unknown to start selling on the platform like I mentioned and try to obfuscate their relationship to you by any means possible. The second that anyone found out they were connected to you the experiment would be ruined. You would have to document their progress over several months completely in secret (obviously, you giving them all the help you can, as you try to do on this channel), and then compile the data - would make for a very interesting video I would think.

    No offense but you are a paid “employee” for whatnot and trying to show people how easy it is with an unrealistic sale. That Gameboy could’ve sold anywhere for that price. I get that they pay you for getting people to join to sell or buy on your employer’s platform but don’t get peoples hopes up on selling on this platform because it helps your bottom dollar. You guys used to be so wholesome and true.

Now after my breakup with Chewy, I decided to give whatnot a try on a full-time schedule since March. Im doing shows almost every day in different categories. Not gonna lie, it hasn't been easy, especially pregnant and with all types of symptoms lol, but I do enjoy whatnot and the community and I am slowly growing. Got to 1,000 followers and now my goal is to get to 1,000 sales! It's not easy and it's definitely not for everyone and it is a lot of work for one person but it's not impossible and I do enjoy it. I still list on my other platforms, but I pray this becomes my main platform where I generate enough income to not work for someone else's dream. Wish me luck! - Koko

    As a seasoned 25 year reseller I have to say that putting a somewhat desired item on the platform for a super reasonable price is a bit misconstruing for most. I started in March and without much of a following, doing 2 shows a week I have finally started to see a few good bidding wars. I think youtubers that have an amazing following don't really get the struggle of not having that. My biggest show so far averaged about 10 people. Just wanted to point this out. I am not big on whatnot for many reasons, but I was an early adopter i think i joined like close to 3 years back when Cincinnati Picker was doing videos on joining whatnot, side note man it was hard to get approved back then lol. But my first show, i had zero followers, sold like 1200$ and also gained 100 followers after that first show. anyone can be a reseller it just takes time to learn some of the shipping stuff.

    We have yet to sell on Whatnot, but this video makes us a little more intrigued and not as intimidated. If we started, we would sell golf clubs. Are you able to use a USPS priority label so you can use the mailing tubes? I'm just curious how the shipping works on Whatnot when an item sells. Does the buyer choose a shipping service or do you? Could be a good future video... 😉

    Yep. Whatnot has a shipping agreement with usps that allows you to ship any item under 1 cubic foot for $8.35 anywhere in the continental US. The medium mailing tubes are just under 1 cubic foot so they qualify. There’s no length surcharge like there would be if you shipped on another platform. Check out the golf category to see some of those shows and what others are selling :)

He is also the one that got me into reselling after he had a private pick from me here in Melbourne, Victoria.. thanks again for being staight up and honest with all your vids, keep it up Mate and love the content.. 👍🇦🇺🦘

    Starting small is nice because you have so little time and energy invested. Spend 15 minutes trying to sell one item and worst case scenario, you just waste 15 minutes. Best case scenario, you make a sale and get some new followers making it easier to sell next time.

    Hey Josh and Hayley! Just gotta say I loved the video. I’ve been on whatnot casually selling for a bit but have really only had success selling DVDs in bulk. I found a lot of like 13 Disney pins the other day thrifting and decided I’d try selling them in the new category on WN. Within 20 minutes or so they were all sold. I did lot them up but the point is that I tried a new category and not a single follower was in the show and I got rid of all of them. So 1) I started small 2) I had fun and 5) I sold the right stuff! Need to work on 3 & 4 lol. But point is as little as the show was I sold the pins at a profit, got new followers and got asked for another show! Now I just need to find more pins! Lol. Thanks for this and all videos!

    Actually Josh I will give you props as I’m a big seller on EBay and I’m well known so I went on Depop under another name and after 2 weeks I’m getting so many sales and becoming a hot new seller. I believe it’s not what you sell but also how you market your product, there is a lot to say for good photos and wording of your listings, if you can hone in on it, the key buzz words and the way to sell things successfully with titles it will work across all platforms regardless if you are a small time seller.

    Not meaning to be that guy but it’s based on what you sell and even that the buyers want stuff for free I’ve streamed for 2 years selling sneakers basically streaming for 12 hours a day everyday, earned almost 7 thousand followers and still could sell a shoe for a literal dollar and a $150 shoe for $20 on a good day. Your one of my favorite channels but my opinion and many others I know and whatnot is not the market to be on unless your known most of the points made was to stream, be different and expect small returns til you get fans and I have all that and done all that and does nothing because there’s 10k+ ppl on to watch the biggest streamers and just to off them. They just get what they want and leave and you’ll never see that person or group that bought those $1 shoes ever again or expect for you to do that for the rest of your career of they’ll unfollow or gossip
