I loved your no bs, simple way of explaining everything, but I cannot stress enough how much cycling a tank is necessary. Try to cycle the tank for at least 1-2 weeks before releasing any fish, let alone discuses. New tank syndrome isn't well-received by discuses. Secondly, if someone doesn't have the means to buy a canister filter(it's recommended, much more hassle-free and promotes good water quality), they can go for a top filter with good media. One way to counteract the heavy flow rates of the power head is to get yourself another flow pipe(the blue/white pipe that gets attached to the top filter tray) and attach it to the outlet of the powerhead. Use suction cups to stick the pipe to the tank. This should mediate the water flow and will make sure the discuses aren't disturbed. Rock salt is to be kept handy and a bit should be added after water changes as it doesn't allow fungal growths. Another thing which made me hesitant in the beginning when it came to keeping discus was the TDS of water. Don't worry, TDS will not effect your discus too much unless it's a wild-caught variant. Feed your discus well and keep up with the water changes. For juveniles, it's advised that all the wastes and about 20% water is changed every day for optimal growth. However, that might not be possible for all of us, so, every other day is recommended if heavy feeding is done. Talking about tankmates, nothing aggressive is recommended. Your best bet is adult sized cardinal tetras, Rummy nose tetras, emperor tetras, rams, corydoras, and even Congo tetras. L series plecos work great too if you can afford the exorbitant prices. Very nice video Ashok Da.. I siphon 35% water once a week with cured white sand and 60% heavy service once on 1.5 months as I have a adequate 3feet sump filter too. I feed live and frozen tubifex,sinking (Feedwale) 0.8mm pellets. Got 5 sided 70 US gallons(265 litres). Am an experienced hobbyist who has JUST kept 4 small discus for first time in life with 80 widow fish,40 tiger barb,5 serpae tetra,15 juvenile blue gourami. Discus is doing fine and growing but my fishwallah gave 2 wild discus and 2 supposed powder blue. I want common checkerboard or panda or any other beautiful variety and not the expensive albino,yellow and red sunmaera. Is it possible to call you or understatement your rates.. As want 10 to 20 day old aquarium acclimatised small discus around the price of 350 per piece. Will buy 10 pieces.
