A good way to broaden the voices you can do is to keep trying to do the one you're imagining in your head, outloud, over and over even if it sounds like crap and not like what you want at all. Because the more you do it the more adjustments you make and the end result is the voice you wanted or something close. I did a Mexican accent from the 3rd grade and up for years. Sounded retarded until highschool when it finally was on point to a T. Not all voices have to take years, but the take away is just simply experiment with your vocal cords.

My fear of failure is pretty big too, I’m scared that my family will be disappointed for not going for the job that they thought was good for me as I am good at art but I can’t draw buildings (they wanted me to do architecture). I’ve already voiced 2 characters without their knowledge and it’s fun! If the person choosing the cast wants you to say something but you don’t know how then repeat the line in different ways but with long pauses between each one. Using the method did help me in one way but I wasn’t told the age of the character and was only shown a picture of them so I went for a more childish voice and I had to redo it because of the assumption of the character being a teenager

I’m shy and have social anxiety and was told I had an amazing voice on streams. I use to voice act with toys as a kid and loved making a villain voice. As a kid I realized villains do bad stuff, because bad stuff happened to them and it was left unchecked, so they cope with bad things done to the world. Now as an adult I use my depression as an act to sound evil, and it works! I made myself cry by acting like a villain sometimes.

Dude, thank you SO much for making this video. Most people my age (or in general in my life) don't think about wanting to be a voice actor so no one has been able to help me. My parents and teachers keep telling me that I'm smart enough to be a doctor or a lawyer but, those jobs are too serious for me and require even more school and money. I mean, I'm not saying voice acting is cheap, but at least I can have fun with it. I wanted to do voice acting since 1) I can be multiple characters instead of just one and 2) I'm curious to see if anyone will ever connect/love the characters I voice act. My friends are always weirded out when I feel sympathy for a fictional character. (My friends say if they ever read my name in the credits, they'll scream)

Like if I could voice act for Halo I would, even if it's for free. Just the thought of shooting a marine or ODST or a brute and have my voice come out of them is enough for me. I used to make crappy films in high school with my friends which were supposed to be as poorly acted as possible and it was really fun putting something together to be watched. The laughs were always welcome. And if a blue snowball or blue yeti can be bought for cheap, then I'll start auditioning basic stuff right away

I'm 13, almost 14 (in about a month), and today I gained an interest in voice acting. Actually, I've always had a slight interest in VA for a while, I just never decided to start anything. But I want to stop holding back. I'm very awkward and shy, but currently voice acting is my number one career choice. I know it'll be difficult, but I want to see how far this dream can take me. This is the first time I've ever seriously wanted to do something and for that I'll try my very best

I just want to say thank you for the information, the encouragement and staying nice, humble and funny. Long story short, I’ve been severely depressed for over a decade, been working since I was 13, and never followed my passions because of financial security and lack of support/understanding. Almost hitting 30 and I’m experiencing the darkest days of my life until I found this video; because I was even tired of looking at a TV with the same thing on, so I just searched for something meaningful and I looked up voice acting. I’m going to take your advice and start going to classes and actually try to make this happen. You might have possibly saved a life because now I feel deeply motivated again to figure out what could be possible. Thank you so much. God bless you really ✨

You don't have to sound different to be a voice actor. Although that is cool, there are a handful of voice actors who use their default voice for many characters, and you've probably noticed them, too. Cree Summer for example (Numbah 5) has such a gritty voice that she's used in Voltron Legendary Defenders and a handful of other roles. VO casters hire you for your voice and whether or not you fit the role they're looking for. *Then* they'll worry about impressions and pitch if they see you're close enough to their ideal@@mochiteacutie Edit - Wow she literally even touches on this within the first minute of the video which means you probably didn't pay attention

It’s amazing how far you have come! I joined your channel about 10 years ago when you were still in New York! Lol I remember your voice impressions most notably the Pokémon ones I loved the side commentary where you often talked about losing your voice but your humor still very much there! 😂

I started pursuing voice over a few years ago, and I''m glad you're doing a video like this because there wasn't much info when I started out. Through sheer luck, I met Crispin Freeman and he told me about his Voice Acting Mastery podcast which is how I got started. I recorded my demo in Santa Monica December of 2018, and got signed to MAM talent agency in Seattle the following April. Unfortunately, it hasn't led to me getting many opportunities. I can count on one hand the number of VO auditions they've given me in a year. So no major games or animations yet, but I'm still plugging away at it because it's what I love doing.

This is A very legit video! When I took my first voice over class a lot of us thought itd be cool to have our teacher make a little reel of the clips we did. He was honest and simply said "Trust me. You do NOT want those." It wasnt until after the class where I started getting the hang of it more. 2 big things we were taught was things Brizzy is doing, using hand motions (your words follow your hands) and smiling all the time so that the words have amazing diction and are crystal clear.

THANK YOU for all the resources! This is exactly the kind of video I was needing. I have my BA in performance and I'm from the Dallas area. But honestly they don't really teach you like...how to actually *get a job* as a performer, so although I have my degree and my acting chops are pretty solid, there is still a big learning curve, especially when it comes to the practical application of skills, and so it's been up to me to get that self education that college left out and it's so...I mean it's utterly overwhelming. This is a really comprehensive video with a lot of tools to improve so thank you.

Thank you so so much for making this video, suuuuper helpful and motivating for me, as someone who hasn't gotten my feet wet just yet hehe! As each day goes by, my desire to build my VO/VA career only becomes stronger. As someone who calls people from home all day as a full time cold call fundraiser, it can be grueling but also, work like this reminds me how much I love to use my voice and many, many, MANY people I talk to over the phone have told me I have something special and that I should pursue voice gigs and trust me, I've always wanted to but I'm someone who requires an immense amount of motivation to get my ADHD brain in gear and DO the things I love! I'll be sure to make use of the resources you've provided here, thank you again!
