    I returned to 40k in 9th edition after retiring at 6th edition I was shocked to see the “new” armies added but it was nice to see. I was gonna get them but then they announced squats returning and I told myself decades ago if dwarves made a return I’d be all over it even if they where garbage. And now I have 2500points worth of dwarves painted and displayed 😅

    . . . hilariously I was just thinking about getting back into 40k after being gone since 5th edition, and was looking at these guys since from what I've been able to ascertain so far, they *really* fit a lot of what I want to do with a weird counts-as Pirate/Mercenary type army that's been kicking me in the head. The rules they have mostly seem perfect for it, with all the ambushing, bikes, industrial weapons and such.

    One correction: If you're not starting with a box set, DO NOT get Neophytes. If you like the army, you're going to end up with more neophytes than you need when you do get the box sets. Get the Acolytes instead. Likewise, I'd stay away from buying the Broodcoven outright, since GW likes to package it into things and it'll make another value deal (like a Shadowthrone half) even better.

  • @BeginnerSam

    @@BeginnerSam I'm not saying there aren't lists that use a lot, I'm saying that they're really easy to get in a lot of purchases that you'd want to grab anyway. Why would I ever get two boxes of neophytes for $100, when I could get them, plus an easily converted Magus, a set of aberrants, a set of acolytes, AND a rockgrinder in the CP for another $50? So if I'm picking between a box of acolytes or a box of neophytes to get started, it's an easy choice.

    This was fun, and it's also neat to see that, at least for now, Xenos are filling the top spots for power. I'm hoping you will eventually make another list like this for Eldar! As someone who has really poured over the rules we have, and plays competitively, while checking other lists that work, it will be cool to see what Eldar you support, and suggest; what has old models, and what is new, better plastic. In truth, I'm a little concerned for Eldar. Because they are currently riding high, I have no doubt that GW will knee cap them eventually, in favor of better selling armies, but mor than that, I'm not sure how much "Craftworld" strength you can get from them. It's a thing with several factions; they have subfactions, but current rules don't support that, or incentivize trying. Biel-Tann is Aspects, but only a few of those seem good. Iyanden is Wraiths, but then you wouldn't field many Aspects, same as Ulthwe, and their Seers. Of course, 10e doesn't actually care there, but I guess I'm an old fan, so it would be neat to see the units you recommend, and which CW that might most closely favor, just in case you wanted to let that influence the paint scheme, and not bring blur and yellow Wraiths, but black and bone Seers, and colorful Aspects, with bright red Fire Prisms, and bikes.

I've got the Magus, I converted into a Locus, I've got the Neophytes I used 16 of as Neophytes and 1 of to build a Sanctus Talon, Then I bought a Kellermoroph and a Sanctus to make a kellermorph and a Sanctus Sniper.

    Just started this army, you can use Necromunda box sets to filll out Acolyte hybrids using the 25mm bases. I use one of the orlock raider buggies for GSC bike heroes and other Kit bashing sou you are not paying$ 40 per character. Also grab the Astra Militarum Combat Patrol. Managed to score Ash Wastes half price, i use all the terrain and every gang member except for the nomand bug walkers. GSC & Necromunda Cross Synergy is a must and the end game factions if you are into the hobby, you can use the cargo-8 hauler as another truck etc. Paint the van sar gang with some slight purple tints and your good. So long as the bases and height of the miniatures are the correct sizes the worlds your oyster

    Honestly the lore of Genestealer cults draws me to them. I'm currently building a AoS Bonereapers army but GSC, Chaos Knights and 30k Alpha Legion are my side projects but out of those 3 most of the focus is going into cults. I just love the fact that in the grand scheme of things in 40k their conflicts are very localized to one system or planet for the most part. Like yeah it plays a much larger role for the tyranids but they're really just a bunch of miners waging guerilla warefare. The codex leaves so much room to really create your own cult i just feel like there's more freedom than any other cult to really personalize things. Biggest struggle im having is do i go full synthwave with them or do i go a bit mad max and make them shiny and chrome? They're just so much fun.

    maybe it's just not for me, but I don't get why genestealer cults can't use more stolen vehicles? you could even split it up by which civilization they're infiltrating: this cult creed can take these imperium vehicles, then you have one for tau and aeldari. maybe there's lore reasons why they can't get necron or ork vehicles... but on the other hand, if they're infiltrating orks, they have some ork DNA... and are we absolutely sure they can't fall to chaos? I know slivers, I mean zerg, I mean tyranids have that anti-warp thing, but they are cross-breeding with chaos susceptible species. EDIT: GW published rules for chaotic genestealers in 1991, they had daemon possessed patriarchs and coven limousines with gatling guns. GW really needs to rethink their rules and how they don't encourage customization and kitbashing as much as they could

  • @richmcgee434

    @richmcgee434

    Жыл бұрын

    Tau are nearly immune to infiltration, the kroot can literally smell the genetic taint on creatures (kroot, tau and human, at least) and the ethereals are ruthless about purging them now that they understand the threat better. Eldar breed way too slowly to be good subjects for infestations and their psykers frequently detect and execute anyone who does get tainted, and you bet they aren't putting that spirit stone into the matrix. Orks are even worse, at least by 2nd ed canon. They don't breed conventionally at all, greenskin spores don't carry the taint forward to the next generation, and they can tell there's something wrong with any boyz who get infected because they stop resonating with the overall orky psychic presence and act weirdly while they're trying to keep their purestrain(s) hidden and kidnap more boyz to turn. Even non-weirdboyz can tell something's off, and their cults don't last long enough for the purestrains to mature into a patriarch (broodlord in modern parlance) and start broadcasting. Octarius would've gone very differently if orks were easy prey for genestealers, and if the bugs could duplicate the spore-based reproduction the brainboyz engineered into them way back when the galaxy would be doomed. Don't think even GW is dumb enough to retcon that, at least not unless they plan on End Timing the whole 40K setting and hitting an AoS style reboot.
