Have to go with Kurt on this one. Buffalo Trace and Wild Turkey 101 should be in every start up bourbon collection. Also, I’m a huge four roses fan so having that single barrel on there sealed the deal for me. Great lineups!

My first at home bottles were OF1910 and Buffalo Trace. That was back in October. I'm now up to 35 bottles and wifey telling me I am already taking up to much space on the kitchen counter since our little bar is overfilled. Be careful fellow newbies ... this is ADDICTIVE! LOL

You are so right! Have a good friend that after the 4th or 5th time of being in my man cave looked up at me after a sip of Russell's Reserve single barrel and said "I finally get it!" That was back in August and he has over 30 bottles now. Has said the chase for different bourbons is nearly as much fun as the flavors. He's constantly sending me pictures over text asking me what I know about this bottle or that bottle. He's hooked! Had a guest ask me the other day how many bottles I had. I guessed around 30,,,, counted 45. And that was 4 days after my first infinity bottle when I poured 6 different into 1.

I think Kurt's collection is more fundamental/traditional. I also agree that Four Roses Single Barrel is a staple & must be on hand at all times. Delicious!
Very nice video….can’t go wrong with these. My 200 buck lineup: OF 100: 25 Buf Trace: 25 ET BiB: 25 WT 101: 20 EW 1783: 20 MM CS: 40 4R SiB: 45 200 even! I think you can see whose list mine mostly matches!
Both fantastic lists! The only thing missing from both was 1792 Small Batch. Excellent option for $28-30 IMHO. Love all your vids gents.

I love Wild Turkey 101 and Four Roses Single Barrel - I'm not sure what the rest of the picks on my list would be, but these two are granted first and second place. They're amazing tasting bourbons, very available and great value. To be honest, I could probably build my whole list with just stuff from these two distilleries.
Great lineups. While New Riff is my favorite pick, I have to go with Kurt’s collection as more quintessential flavors and looks great on the shelf.
You guys are a kick! Both lists are awesome but I have to go with Trenton on this one. I have them all and the New Riff is fantastic! Thank you for the great video. Very entertaining and this makes our bourbon journey so much fun!
New subscriber here, and new to bourbon. I've been binge watching all your videos. Tried watching other channels, but keep coming back to you guys. I feel like I'm there with you, at an uncles house! Cheers!
Just a quick Thank you, I'm still new to Bourbon but I love it, you guys give Great insights into this journey. Kurts side
Kurt - So glad you put BT in the lineup. I know people dig on it, but that's the bourbon that got me into Bourbon. Always a regular in my collection. Cheers!
This was a great video and I honestly think you both hit a home run with your picks. If I were forced to pick one or the other I give an ever so slight nod to Kurt on this one. Cheers 🥃
Thanks for the recommendation. Just started. And I paid $19.49 on Wild turkey 101 in California 👍🏼
You guys are Great! Just got into bourbons and whiskey a few weeks ago and your channel has been so informative! Thank you!!!
Solid list that covers a large gamut of bourbon flavors. Great job. Content like this is why you have 93k subscribers. My list would be: Russells 10 year, Old Grand Dad BiB, JTS Brown BiB, Larceny 92, and for a splurge I would go with Knob Creek 12.

ha i had 3 of those as well without looking! Similar tastes
both great lists. I lean more towards Trenton's because Larceny, KC9, and Early Times are a regular part of my rotation. That said I love OF 1910 and MM Cask strength. I also keep a Prudent Pappy blend handy - Makers Mark Cask Strength + Larceny 2:1 ratio.
Buffalo trace ($25), JWDant ($24 liter), JTS ($17), Early times, Heaven Hill bib ($50), Woodford reserve double oak ($55). My picks cheers!!
Guys, OUTSTANDING video! For me, it was a coin toss between you. Worth throwing caution to the wind and spending $400 for all 12!
Yeah gotta go with Kurt on this one, at least for a beginner collection. Trenton's might actually be a little higher quality depending on personal preference but Kurt has a realy solid representation of most major distillieries so you can get a good feel for what you like. When I got into bourbon that really helped me figure out what I was into, then once I got a solid collection I branched out more into the craft distilleries like New Riff. Cheers fellas!
Love your videos. I am fairly new to bourbon. I have been a makers drinker for years but recently started discovering all the wonderful choices out there. Good choices by both but I would lean towards Kurt’s selection. My 6 would be wild Turkey 101, knob creek 9, larceny, four roses SIB, Russell’s 10, and Elijah Craig small batch.
As a first time commenter, but viewer of many videos over the past few months, I have to say I find both lists to be excellent and given the 12 options, would honestly choose 3 from each of you. OF 1910, Buffalo Trace, WT 101, Knob Creek 9, OG 114. and Early Times BIB would be the 6 I would choose from this lineup, although I may be too deep in to this current bottle of 101 to do the math and might be over the $200 limit with those choices. Either way these are both solid lineups. Cheers gents.

Great run down! I was a little curious as to why Kurt did not include Elijah Craig Small Batch as that was the bottle that got him into bourbon in the first place. The same was true for me.
Kurt has my vote, only because I have access to more of his options and he wasn't afraid to pull big bourbon makers mark out...most people don't like the big guy on the block, but good is good
Two solid selections 👍🏻 My $200 intro bourbon collection would be Knob Creek 9yr, Early Times Bottle-in-Bond, Woodford Reserve Double Oaked, Maker’s Mark 46, Wild Turkey 101, and Old Grand-Dad 114……total cost $196 😁

Really liking your list, we live about 3 miles from the Old Grand Dad and Buffalo Trace distilleries, and my wife grew up less than 10 miles from the Makers Mark distillery. To make it more nationwide maybe add a Jack Daniels and Still Austin whiskey. Another option is for dropping to 3 bourbons/whiskeys, and adding some beer and mixed drink ingredients. My wife had butterfingers for New Years Eve, a sugar bomb for an everyday drinker, but fine for special occasions with Bailey's Irish Cream, Kahlua and butterscotch schnapps for a low price compared to most bourbon prices. That one time use only oak barrel and 4 plus aging years jumps the price, maybe go to Gatlinburg and try the Ole Smoky brand moonshine and whiskeys with less expensive rules, their tastings include a coupon for money off at their store.

Two great lists! A tough choice, but I have to go with Trenton's picks mainly because I've had all those except New Riff, plus Early Times has slightly edged-out WT101 as my current fave. I also love OGD114, KC and OF100. I haven't tried EW BIB or OF1910 yet. After reading comments and seeing so many good ones about New Riff, I'll be trying that one soon. Love your videos and your interaction with one another. Thanks and Happy New Year, gentlemen!

I’ve been to new riffs distillery a few times and all of their bourbons are great. I was blown away by the single barrel rye and malted single barrel my friend and I purchased
I've started to really learn about spirits and cocktails in 2020, as the pandemics started. I have been building my minibar ever since, which is slowly turning into a whiskey collection (also thanks to you, guys - thank you for the inspiration!). I currently have a Buffalo Trace (1L, 45%), Evan Williams single barrel, Woodford Reserve Rye, Templeton 4yo Rye, Teeling Irish (small batch and single grain), Glen Scotia Double Cask single malt and a Finlaggan (Islay peated single malt, only to be used as seasoning in the likes of Penicillin). I enjoy American whiskies especially, also Irish single grains, not a fan of Scotch (but exploring in all directions). Keep up the good work!
My recommendations would be: 1) Evan Williams BIB - $16 2) Buffalo Trace - $25 3) Larceny - $25 4) OGD 114 - $31 5) WT Rare Breed - $45 6) Maker’s Mark 46 CS - $58 You get two wheaters (daily and cask strength). Two low rye bourbons (daily and cask strength). A high rye bourbon (OGD) and a malt bourbon (EW BIB). Plus, distillery variation between Heaven Hill, Wild Turkey, Maker’s Mark, Buffalo Trace and Jim Beam.
Good lineup across the board. Can't go wrong with any combination of either of your choices. If I had to pick..I'd say Kurt over Trenton (I don't care for New Riff or OGD). I'd probably say Blue Note Juke Joint instead of New Riff, Coopers Craft instead of the WT 101, and somehow worked a KC store pick 120 proof in there somehow :)
I can't argue with any of these selections. Kurt, I applaud you for including OF 1910 as your splurge pick. So sweet and easy-drinking. I have never been able to find Buffalo Trace in my area. I recently found one in the wild, but the store required two other purchases, bringing the total for a 750 ml bottle (plus unwanted additions) to $90. I passed. I've also noticed Wild Turkey Rare Breed getting more difficult to find lately in my area. I'm hoping this is a temporary situation.
New bourbon drinker here. Bought a Four Roses Small Batch tonight. Heard it’s good in an Old Fashioned.
Curt's priced out at $220 on the VA ABC website. I couldn't do Trenton's because we don't get New Riff, but it looks to be about $55, so assuming that would be our price, Curt's would have been $207 in VA. We get ripped off somewhat here without any competition. Love your show!
Here's my 5 minute list of 6 for $200 I could throw together in my area. 1792 Small Batch, Wild Turkey 101, Woodford Double Oak, Old Forester 100 (great mixer), Knob Creek 9yr, Maker's Cask Strength.
Late to the game but here’s 5 I’d start with for under $250 (had to up it what can I say) in my area: 1. Redwood Empire Pipe Dream - $32 2. Woodford Double Oak - $52 3. Pikesville Rye - $45 4. Wild Turkey Rare Breed - $47 5. Russell’s Reserve Single - $60
I’m older than Kurt but been drinking bourbon longer than Trenton’s been alive. Ironically, T had 3 of my “always stocked” in Larceny, Old Forrester, and Knob Creek(many iterations of it)but also love Tin Cup, Bulleit, etc! I’m excited to say that watching this has invigorated me to try K’s choices but y’all(yeah, I’m from Tampa!)have made me be more adventurous in my selections. I never thought I’d like rye, I don’t! I freakin love it! Tried Bulleits rye and will always have it around. Love your channel and thanks much!
I’ve been watching your videos with my dad over the holiday break! When I got home wanted to start a little bourbon bar collection. Its funny because I basically got Trentons line up minus old grand dad and new riff. For pricing in my area of Texas total wine: Larceny 22 Wild turkey 101 20 Knob creek 26 Old forester 86 proof 18 Early times(1liter) 20 Couldn’t find buffalo trace :/ So far my favorite is larceny
I like these kind of lists and these are all good picks . I think there should be a set of rules. No allocated bourbon ( buffalo trace products) A daily drinker A mixer A wheater A rye A cast strength My
I live in Pennsylvania where liquor selection is still controlled by the state. Many options you show are not available. I need to travel out of state to find. I enjoy your videos. Keep it up. Thanks Dan
Two Thumbs up to both lineup selections! I might have added a Russell's 10 year and the 7 year Bernheim Wheated Kentucky Whiskey along with a 7 year bourbon from Old Fourth Ward Bottled in Bond. I have to go with Kurt's list because of the Old Forster's 1910.
Fun topic for a list! I think my list matches up with your lists pretty closely. Only thing is, you have to find a way to get Rare Breed on there! (Local Illinois pricing) $196 total OF 100 $24 BT $28 RE Emerald Giant $30 EW 1783 $20 WT Rare Breed $45 WT 101 $21 ET Bib $28
I'm very happy with both of your picks. You can tell I watch the channel from the result of this though, because I'm fairly new to this ( about 50 bottle collection ) and I have 9 of the 12 bottles you picked in my collection. You really do make good recommendations and I love every single bottle that I have bought as a result of your reviews and input. I have bought many, many bottles blindly and have gotten quite lucky so far, but every bottle I've bought as a result of your reviews/discussion has been a home run for me. I think both lineups are a solid choice to be trusted. I genuinely can't choose a side because both of you had three bottles that are bottles I will NEVER go without ( four roses single barrel, buffalo trace, turkey 101, knob 9, forester 100, New Riff ), but the others that I have tried in this lineup are also fantastic. I wanted to choose a side but man, I don't think you can go wrong either way. I'm from IN too so the prices are pretty spot on for me. I will say to other IN people though, go to your local Meijer. You'd be amazed at what you can find and even more amazed at the prices you can come by. I got my New Riff Single barrel for about 42$ there, find Trace there all the time, and killer deals on other bottles too. I get Rare Breed at my Meijer for about 48$ because it seems like it's always on sale when it comes in. Their sales vary but man, they have killer deals in there sometimes. Unfortunately most of my local liquor stores are extremely greedy and way, way overcharge on almost everything. So I venture out to places like Meijer or Total Wine who have more competitive pricing.
Really enjoy your channel and how welcoming you are to all in the Whiskey community! Keep it going!
Fantastic starting collection by you both. I have most every bottle on the bar so it's hard for me to pick a winner. It's like asking me who my favorite child is, although that would probably be easier than picking between your picks. It's really splitting hairs, but OF 1910 and WT 101 are two of my all-time favorites, and the Buffalo Trace is such an easy sipper, so I have to give the slight edge to Kurt. Great job guys.
It's wild how prices vary in different areas. That Maker's cask strength is $55 here as opposed to $40 there, meanwhile four roses single barrel are almost identical in price. Wild.
I live in London, so have fewer options and everything is more expensive. I went with £200 - Knob Creek 9 Yr (£33), Wild Turkey 101 (£33), Makers 46 (£38), Eagle Rare (£40), 4 Roses Single Barrel (£45). Nothing too 'hot' for a beginner and a few different 'flavours'.
Gotta go with Trenton's lineup. Knob Creek, OF 100, and GD 114 is always on my shelf. Love Kurt's picks, but the Maker's Cask is not my favorite. People sleep on the Evan Williams BiB so I'm glad to see that up there. Keep up the good work gentlemen.

Plus ET BiB. Can’t go wrong.
WT101, KC9, OF100, EWBiB, Woodford Double Oak, WT Rare breed. Out of your lists I would say Kurt is the winner. Although buffalo trace is tough to get, early times is also equally tough.
You two both have some great picks. I personally would go with OF 1910, New Riff, Rare Breed, Redwood Empire Lost Monarch, Eagle Rare 10year and Woodford Reserve Double Oaked. I may have gone over the $200 mark but I just couldn’t leave my favorites out!!
Four Roses made the list!!! Awesome!!! I love the finish from the yellow label and single batch!!!
Kurt absolutely killed it with a timeless 6 bottle collection. Cheers!
I was holding a bottle of Evan Williams bonded in a whisky shop in England yesterday. It was priced £37 ($44.65)
My 5....makers mark, larceny, Jim beam black, know creek, Woodford reserve, copper craft, 1910 and Buffalo Trace. Not sure on costs but I like those. Makers mark is my go to right now
Have to go with Trenton on this one. Larceny, Knob Creek 9 and Old Grandad 114 are all Yummy. Never had the New Riff so will have to find a bottle. Not a fan of Early Times, but don't know if Ive ever tried the BiB version. Kurt's is a good list as well, but I don't care for Makers or WT much. Haven't had Evan Williams since college days and only drank it then because it was cheap. Although BT, Four Roses and the 1910 are all awesome choices.

I too stopped drinking Evan after college but a few years ago, tried it again. I was pleasantly surprised how good it is for the money and consider it a solid choice for a common sipper.
I was thinking about this on my way home on how to flesh out and start from the bottom up. Perfect timing!!
I'd go with: Evan Williams 1783 ($22), 1792 Small Batch ($31), Wild Turkey 101 ($27), Old Granddad 114 ($30), Wild Turkey Rare Breed ($52), and Knob Creek 9 year single barrel ($60). Leaving $7 leftover for various 50 ml samples. Or to stretch the $200, you could go with: WT 101 375 ml ($15), and EW 1783 375 ml ($10). Giving $29 leftover, which is the cost of a bottle of Sazerac Rye. If it must be a bourbon (no ryes allowed) then I'd change Sazerac to Ancient Ancient Age, which is also $28 for the 1.75 L.
Between 50ml bottles and actual full-size bottles, this is more-or-less exactly the road I went down given what's available around me. Very solid choices, and it's also nice to know that I'm not the only one suffering price-wise right now. The OF100 price surprised me, it's one of the things I pay very little for in my area.
My list; Balconies Texas blue corn bourbon, iron wolf Select bourbon, Ranger Creek .36 Texas straight bourbon, Herman Marshall Texas Bourbon whiskey, Treaty Oak Ghost Hill Texas Bourbon Whiskey, yellow rose outlaw bourbon whiskey.
Couldn't agree more with both of your picks. Great $400 starter bar. Here in Michigan just like Rare Breed our prices have all went up @ $5 a 750 for everything.
Minus the New Riff, I already own these bottles. Good list gents! And now I have to add New Riff to my collection.
100% agree with Even Williams Bottled-in-bond. It is an awesome mixer!
This is the video I needed. Thanks Kurt and Trenton. So far I have bought Buffalo Trace bourbon and Evan Williams 1783 and I like them both !
I'll go with Trenton on this one. The OGD 114 and the Knob Creek are my go to choices. I haven't seen the 114 in my area in over 6 months. I do like the 1910.
I'm with Kurt. Love the WT101, Four Roses Single Barrel and Maker's Mark Cask Strength. I also think OGD 114 will be way too harsh for beginners.
Wow I can't believe that my humble little collection is so well represented in your choices. I have both Old Forester's, Larceny, Old Granddad 114, Early Times BIB, Four Roses. All bought way before this video came out. Thanks for all your work. (:
Have to go with Kurt. WT 101, 4 Rose's SiB, BT, and OF 1910 are all some of my favorites. Very well rounded list. Cheers!!!
I love living in Augusta, Ga. Where Eagle Rare and Buffalo Trace is literally in cases at about every liquor store. ER $39 & BT $25
I started my whiskey journey with most of those bottles. I haven't tried 1910 or the 100 proof old forester but I do have the 1920 and that is fantastic. Can't find Early Times BiB here but Buffalo Trace is fairly available. I have a EH Taylor BiB, I see lots of Weller products and pappy's. They're all marked up high but once in awhile I find a bottle unguarded on the shelf at a reasonable price. My current favorite brand that I'm hunting for is Barrell Craft. They're just so different and tasty, I want to try all their different blends. Cheers guys!
I'm Joe the new guy here and I'm slowly figuring out what suits my taste profile while at the same time trying to build up tolerance to heat. That said, for me, its a split decision. I do lean more towards sweet and less heat (at the moment) and anything too oaky doesn't work for me right yet. I also seem to like the ryes too which kinda lends more towards Trenton. Gun held to my head, I'm going with Trenton but truth be told, I own more of what Kurt put on the bar. Good teaching points in the video though, all of which will help me lose my rookie status! Thanks for sharing guys and very entertaining, as always! Be safe and be well!
I wanted to choose one of you with your picks, but you both have 2-3 that I’d support. Well done!
I’ve started mine recently. I love both OFs and the buffalo trace. Both great!
First of all, I am a drinker, not a collector. Ten of those bottles have passed thru my bar except the Maker’s Mark and the New Riff. I was able to snag an Early Times just last month. And I would buy each of those 10 again. OF100 would be my current daily drinker but has disappeared from the area. The only change I would make, if it was widely available, would be the Evan Williams Single Barrel in place of the BiB. A good reminder to pick up an OG 114, when I have space available. Great video again!
I am Team Father and Son with Mom. I am with Kurt! He has Four Roses, Buffalo Trace and Makers Mark. Maybe add Woodford Reserve. 🥃 I do appreciate Knobs Creek too.
Larceny, Knob Creek and New Riff are among my personal favorites. Excellent work as always!
Thanks for this show! Y'all are great. I've been drinking bourbon for the past 15+ years, but mostly from the same distillery (Woodinville Whiskey in WA). Since I started watching your show I have expanded my "collection"... thanks to you guys. So the 'better collection' for this show is Trenton... his list has the most number of bottles that I'd l'd like to get, that I haven't tried yet.

-WT101 1.75L: $31 -Evan Williams BIB: $19 -OF 1910: $56 -OGD 114: $22 -Jack Daniel's SiBBP: $70 Maybe not necessarily a starter collection because of the high proofs, but a dang good collection for $198! 🥸
It's funny how things stick in your head. A friend of mine once said they called it Early Times because it's made like they did back before they figured out how to make good whiskey. Also, a woman once told me that her husband was ok when he drank, but when he drank Wild Turkey, he got mean. I have those associations with both of those whiskeys (which I'm sure are fine products) but I'll most likely avoid them for life because those thoughts have taken root in my brain.
Good call with the 1910. Gotta have a double oaked somewhere in a beginner collection. Woodford double oaked is a solid option as well.
$200.00 = Buffalo Trace, Early Times BIB, Markers Mark, Evan Williams Black Label, Old Forester 1910 and Woodford Reserve Double Oak. That is the list I literally gave someone just before Christmas who wanted to start her bourbon collection.
Love a lot of Trenton's pick in this video! New Riff Single Barrel is special!

I am like 3 months into my collection and have all of those except the Early Times BiB. I would lean towards Trenton picks just so I have to fine the Early Times. Cheers 🥃
I have all of the bottles on Kurt's list except Russel's Reserve instead of Four Roses. He nailed it!
My first bourbon was Turkey 101 and it's still my go-to. :-)
By far the best channel I’ve found in 2022.
Probably my favorite of your videos, thanks guys!
I have learned so much watching your videos - I feel like I have a good hold on what I'm looking for as I go into the store, and also to hold my own when drinking with my brother and father! 👍This video fits the lives of so many. I will get a mix of your picks, but probably more from Kurt's. Old Forester is great, and I'm going to try Old Grand Dad soon!
This List is FANTASTIC... I have had all if these. My list: Old Forester 100 Old Forester 1910 - Sipping Now Early Times - Daily Drinker Neat Four Roses - Love this Distillery Old Grandad 114 - Great Mixer Wild Turkey 101 - Nuff Said New Riff - Live in Cincy... GREAT NEW DISTILLERY... Great List of top 12 affordable Bourbons...
I'm glad to see Old Forester made both lists!! I've had every one on both lists except for New Riff but am interested in trying. I think the combined list pretty much made up my initial collection! Nice work guys! Enjoyed it!

New Riff SB is very good!
I think for beginners first getting into bourbon it'd be Kurt's picks as it's more traditional, but then as they get acclimated then I think they'll want to get into Trenton's picks (so more of advanced/elevated). So I'd start with Kurt's picks to start out then work my way into Trenton's picks.
